Our new FREE digital resource, the BioThane Colors Guide + Leash Simulator, allows you to drag and drop colors into a leash graphic to preview what various color combos will look like. You can preview single color and two tone leashes with both brass and sport hardware! We've even included some of our favorite color combos as inspiration at the end of the guide.

This has been a labor of love, and we really hope you love it too!

If you read our blog post about my top five long line tips, you know that I recommend learning and practicing a safe grip to use when managing a long line. The one I use is often called a “thumb grip.” It’s super simple, effective, and decreases the chance of leash burn or finger injury. Simply run the “dog end” of the leash over the outside of your thumb, with the “handle end” of the leash on the inside of your thumb, between your thumb and index finger. If you need to secure the leash, just close your fist. If you need to drop the leash for any reason, just open your hand and the leash will slide off your thumb without getting caught on anything. This grip is especially helpful to use if you’re using a drag line (a leash without a handle), or holding a long line anywhere along its length and not holding the handle. I use this grip effectively when holding and managing multiple leashes during our group walks.

I typically use the leash grip in my non-dominant hand so that I can use my dominant hand to take slack in or out, guide the leash, or slow it down before braking with my leash grip.

I recommend practicing a leash grip at home. Once you’ve gotten the hang of it, it will feel like second nature and you will have a go-to method for safely and effectively holding your long line.

🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 5 star review from Donna M Krog: Standard Brass Leashes + Long Lines

We are loving our new High Tails long line. The color purple is lovely, the weight is perfect, and easy on the hands. We use just about everyday when we go for walks in our local park. I also like that the leashes are made in the U.S. and that you are a woman run company. They came highly recommended in a FB training group that I’m in.

Holiday gifts mean extra boxes showing up at your doorstep! 🎁 Before you toss them, why not turn those boxes into a snuffle box adventure for your pup? has some clever tips to help you create a fun and enriching sniffing experience!

"free diy enrichment: snuffle boxes📦

-save your paper recyclables throughout the month and a M/L sized cardboard box
-gather a variety of snuffle items (TP rolls, egg cartons, old hand towels, scrunched up paper, smaller boxes, toys, etc.)
-use freeze dried food, treats, or kibble
-tape the cardboard box closed for an added challenge if your dog enjoys shredding
-if it’s your dog’s first time or they’re unsure, try introducing each part of the snuffle box separately!
-always monitor your dog! if they like to eat cardboard, substitute with toys, old hand towels, and a storage bin/basket

Enrichment doesn’t have to be expensive. It can be as affordable and simple as a cardboard box filled with treats and recyclables!"

Pro tip - aways supervise your dog when snuffling!

Our morning walks are for Charlie. They are his time to go where he wants, at his own pace. My only job is to keep him safe, pick up his p**p, keep slack in the leash, and give him a snack if he asks for one.

He chooses the route. I love getting to a corner and seeing which way he decides to go. I love being able to give him this tiny bit of agency in his day.

Sometimes there’s way more sniffing than walking, and that’s totally fine with me! This morning he decided to take a little sniffari in our neighborhood park. He ate some grass, sniffed all around the park benches and trees, and explored under the tables. We only went like three blocks in thirty minutes, but all the post-rain sniffs helped him settle in for a nice long snooze when we got home.

I gave up my expectations about what a walk “should” look like a long time ago and just love seeing what he chooses to do with our time in the world together. I love our morning “walks” and wouldn’t trade them for anything.

My leash is a 10 ft small brass drag line - my all time favorite everyday leash 😊

🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 5 star review from Molly Tourtelot: Perfect for the dog who gets dirty

This leash is easy to clean and light weight. I love being able to fully wash it with soap and water and have it good as new after it dries. Also love being able to customize the set up and colors to get a leash that is exactly what I want!

A super quick demo of our autolocking carabiner - you simply twist/rotate the gate to push it open to unlock, and once you let go, the gate automatically swivels back into place, locking the carabiner!

Our Sport (autolocking carabiner) leashes are the way to go if you want ultimate peace of mind that your leash is NOT going to come unclipped while in use. These carabiners are made from lightweight aviation grade aluminum so they are incredibly strong and also rust resistant!

Ready to plan a fun, low stress enrichment outing with your pup? Here are five locations to consider:

1. Cemeteries: Quiet and peaceful, many cemeteries have walking paths, open grassy areas, and nice views. Please be respectful of gravestones.

2. School Campuses: College campuses during the evenings, early mornings, or school breaks are a fantastic option. Lots of open space, trees and greenery, and fun stuff to explore like stone steps, low walls, and fountains.

3. Parks and Playgrounds: Public parks and playing fields, especially during off hours, can be good options. Playgrounds (when children are not present) can be a fun place for dogs to explore novel surfaces and play training games or practice tricks like “up,” “over,” "through" or “around.”

4. Sniff Spot, Private Land, or Backyard: If your dog is shy, reactive, or otherwise doesn’t enjoy being out in public, a SniffSpot or another enclosed private space can be a great option.

Even if you’re fortunate enough to have a backyard, it’s fun to mix it up with a new location and new smells.

5. Office and Business Parks: Office or business parks are often located in quiet areas on the edge of towns, and are typically deserted after hours, making them a great option for low stress outings!
