Welcome to D & D Ranch
Our mission is to teach, understand, and provide experience with horses. Hey there! I'm Ann Owner of D & D Ranch.
(17)
It's always been a dream of mine to run a business. I grew up riding horses, worked a number of barn jobs, and when I finally was able to get my first couple horses, I decided to open up D & D Ranch. Now 4 years later we have just expanded to a 10 acre farm across the street from HITS show grounds.

First I want to thank everyone for the prayers, our boy isn’t out of the woods yet, but is following the right path.
Unfortunately our suspicions of sand colic were confirmed. For those just joining us, sand colic happens when a horse consumes a considerable amount of sand. And in a short period of time it becomes a pretty big problem.
We are working along side our vet Dr.Hamilton, who came back this afternoon to check on him, while he was examining him, Dallas laid down and was looking uncomfortable again. More meds have been administered, and he is being monitored every hour.
Thank you again for everyones prayers, a huge thank you to our vet, my mom, and my assistant instructor Daisy for helping get through this tough situation.

We need prayers for our little buddy Dallas. He coliced this morning and we had to get the vet out for him. He is stable right now resting in his stall. We’ve been instructed not to give him any grain or hay for at least 24 to 30 hours.
He was given some Banamine, as well as a little bit of mineral oil to help pass things along.
This is the first time since ive owned him, I’ve seen him get sick, so we are praying for a speedy recovery for our boy 🥺💔
Yup, pretty much 💯 😅😂
Go sleep in the yard in December, Chad -- your ancestors did! Here's an animal hide and two sticks to build a fire.
For those that don’t believe a horse can be that flexible, here’s some proof, Delaware: master of flexibility
What are your barn rules?
Coach-Athlete relationships can be some of the most important relationships in a young athlete's life. Is your Coach-Athlete Relationship based on care and support or power and control? 🧐

I think we’ll try a rechargeable dehumidifier! We don’t have power in our barn, so our attack gets moldy constantly, and it’s a constant battle of cleaning

Fun fact for today!
Old Billy is considered the oldest horse to ever live in the world. He was born sometime in 1760 in Woolston, Lancashire, England. Old Billy was verified to be 62 at his death. Old Billy spent his life working as a barge horse, dragging barges in the canals from the shore. Billy surpassed the average horse’s life expectancy and continued to work even as his back became bent.
Due to his old age, he became a local celebrity and an artist named W. Taylor painted a portrait of Old Billy. To honor Old Billy, his skull was sent to the Manchester Museum and his taxidermied skin was stuffed and gifted to the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery & Bedford Museums. Both parts of his head are still on display at the museums today

Im just overwhelmed with pride 😍 Lydia’s first ride on Dancer!
Today I can say we have reached a milestone for the growth of the business.
My wonderful assistant instructor Daisy took lead today and took great care of the horses and taught lessons on top of that, while i was out of town.
D & D Ranch has come SO far! From needing a full time job to support the farm, to being able to be full time by myself, and now we are able to hire an assistant.
Its truly amazing how much support this farm has under it. We LOVE all of you, and thank you for all the support
3 days in a row Dancer has shown us that she makes a great lesson horse!
Just like people, horses have good days, and bad. They make progress, but they can also take backwards steps throughout.
Im happy to see all these foward steps ol girl, keep it up

Before tractors became common, which meant up into the first couple of decades of the 20th century in many places, later in the more rural countries, big teams like this were used for the truly hard work. Plowing, logging, road construction, tasks that today we might even see a small dozer doing were done by teams of Belgians, Percherons, sometimes Clydesdales, mixed breed teams or by huge oxen.
When two weren’t enough, they used 4 or 6.
These horses were the definition of Steady Eddie. I watched a logger from next door Vershire, Vermont, Eddie Nelson, and his Belgian, Admiral, one winter day. Eddie was using a chainsaw on a big spruce, and Admiral was standing nearby, unhitched, and as the tree crashed down, Admiral never twitched. Eddie limbed the tree, put a chain around one end, backed Admiral to where he could hitch the chain, stood on the log, clucked to Admiral, and they headed back to the landing.
We still see a few teams around, and at the various fairs, which usually start around early September, we can watch teams like this in pulling contests. I don’t know how much crossover there is---someone here will know---between teams that are used for actual work, like this one, and pulling contest teams?
Carmine you are doing a fantastic job riding, I am so proud of you and Dancer!
Dallas, your back to being the only pony at the farm! For now… 😉

My heart was pounding! I cannot believe that bridle broke, I was sure that Delaware was going to take me for a real ride, she is such a saint because this could’ve ended very badly for me today. Always check your equipment. Because I knew that this bridal was getting older. I should have replaced it sooner. I’m just glad it was me that had to learn that lesson
If anybody has been following our account for a while, then you have seen our student Lydia since she started riding with us, now that Summer camp is over we’ve officially started riding lessons back up, look at Lydia go, she shows us that it’s like riding a bike you don’t forget it!
This was not an easy task. The storm made this awful mud pit and Oreo likes to pick through the stuff he doesn’t want and throws it on the ground and proceeds to pee and poop all over it. oh the joys of caring for horses, they make the biggest messes and it’s your job to clean it. Can we talk about how satisfying the cleanup job was? Look how good it looks.
