Poderoso & Spartacus PF National Show.

**A Huge Thank You to Everyone Who Supported Us at the Paso Fino Grand National Show**

I want to take a moment to thank every one of you for your incredible support, kindness, and donations for Poderoso and Spartacus at the PF Grand National Show last week. It was an amazing six days of working with these two special horses and getting to know them better. Although we ended up not showing them in the class, it was the right decision for their well-being.

Poderoso and Spartacus were triggered by past experiences, and we didn’t want to push them or cause unnecessary stress—especially when they’ve come so far in their journey with us. Their happiness and health are far more important than any competition, and while there will be other shows, we’ve realized that maybe showing just isn’t what’s best for them anymore. Our focus is on their healing and growth, and that is what truly matters.

Thank you, Kayla, for your dedication and understanding that showing isn’t always the most important part of taking horses to a competition. And to everyone who has supported us—your belief in these amazing horses means the world

Rescue Animals Aren't Broken – They're Just Waiting for a New Chapter

There’s a common misconception about rescue animals, and I see it far too often. When people hear the word “rescue,” they sometimes assume the animal is flawed, damaged, or somehow lesser than other animals. But this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Recently, We had a visitor and showed her a sweet, beautiful gelding up for adoption. I was telling her his story and she response by saying, "Oh, he's a rescue”. It was said in a way that implied a label of something was wrong with him. The truth is, there’s nothing wrong with him. The only difference is that life took an unexpected turn for them, and they ended up needing a new home.

At Happy Valley Horse Rescue, we invest time and effort to get to know each of these incredible animals. We work with them, sometimes for months, to understand their needs, personalities, and potential. Every animal has a different story, and we make sure to help them transition and thrive, regardless of their background.

Rescue animals teach us so much, especially about trust and patience. Some may have been through difficult times, lost a herd mate or a human caregiver, some are wild, and some have never known kindness, only work, but when that bond forms, it’s like no other. The connection you build with an animal, after earning their trust, is one of the most rewarding and special relationships you can experience.

Some of our intakes are older and retired, and because of that, we’ve added a sanctuary to our program. This allows these horses to live out their golden years with care, dignity, and love, even if they’re not candidates for rehoming. They’ve given so much over their lifetimes and deserve a peaceful place to rest.
Remember, rescue animals aren't damaged goods – they’re simply in need of a fresh start. When you look into the eyes of a rescue, you’re not seeing something broken. You’re seeing potential, resilience, and a heart ready to bond with a new family.

Next time you hear the word "rescue," think of it as a symbol of hope, not a label of damage.

This is a little of what we do, Help Horses, rescues and people that reach out. I never quite know who I’m going to meet or what circumstances I’m going to encounter when I go help a horse until I arrive. In the case of Glory, a seven year old Paso Fino gelding, he has been pretty much untouched for two years. His owner had reached out several times for help but unfortunately, those events made Glory more fearful and harder to catch. He would jump through fences and break out of enclosures so with the help of his pasture mate, we got him into a trailer where things could’ve gone very wrong. Since I do not pressure the horse or force him to accept me, his adrenaline is not elevated. I bond and show him that he can trust me because I trust him first. I enter into these circumstances with no agenda and I do not force him to accept me. This is all done with minimal stress or drama. The best part is seeing Glory's eye soften and he chooses me. And of course the smile and happiness on his owner's face. She has not given up on him despite all the frustration. Thank you, Elizabeth for reaching out to me and being patient. There is still more work to be done, but it was a wonderful start.

We thought we would share yesterday’s lesson with Ernesto. He is an eight year old registered Paso fino that we placed a couple years ago and his owner is having issues keeping him in gait.
