Duval engaged in his inaugural bodywork session with Alice Long of Time For Me To Fly Performance Bodywork utilizing The Masterson Method and performed exceptionally well.

Although he exhibited some initial shyness, he still demonstrated notable releases. It is important to understand that a horse's muscles do not improve through mere rest. As prey animals, horses tend to conceal and protect tension, layering it much like an onion. If this undesirable tension is not alleviated through various bodywork techniques, the affected area will likely become restricted.
This restriction limits circulation and range of motion prompting the horse to compensate by altering its movement, which can lead to further issues and diminished performance.

The Masterson Method® represents a distinctive, interactive approach to equine bodywork that is accessible for anyone to learn, fostering trust between horse and handler. Often, years of accumulated stress and stiffness can be alleviated within just a few sessions by addressing the built-up tension in core muscles and critical junctions that influence the horse's performance.

Through The Masterson Method®, practitioners learn to identify and utilize the horse's responses to locate and release tension. Unlike traditional massage techniques, this method engages the horse's nervous system, allowing the horse to actively participate in the process. It is an approach that involves collaboration with the horse rather than imposing treatment upon it. This engagement and interaction contribute to the method's rewarding nature for practitioners and its transformative effects on the horse. Numerous testimonials highlight significant improvements in performance, movement, behavior, and the bond between the horse and its owner, all attributed to The Masterson Method.
A big Thank You to Duval’s sponsor Celeste!!

Poderoso & Spartacus PF National Show.

**A Huge Thank You to Everyone Who Supported Us at the Paso Fino Grand National Show**

I want to take a moment to thank every one of you for your incredible support, kindness, and donations for Poderoso and Spartacus at the PF Grand National Show last week. It was an amazing six days of working with these two special horses and getting to know them better. Although we ended up not showing them in the class, it was the right decision for their well-being.

Poderoso and Spartacus were triggered by past experiences, and we didn’t want to push them or cause unnecessary stress—especially when they’ve come so far in their journey with us. Their happiness and health are far more important than any competition, and while there will be other shows, we’ve realized that maybe showing just isn’t what’s best for them anymore. Our focus is on their healing and growth, and that is what truly matters.

Thank you, Kayla, for your dedication and understanding that showing isn’t always the most important part of taking horses to a competition. And to everyone who has supported us—your belief in these amazing horses means the world

Rescue Animals Aren't Broken – They're Just Waiting for a New Chapter

There’s a common misconception about rescue animals, and I see it far too often. When people hear the word “rescue,” they sometimes assume the animal is flawed, damaged, or somehow lesser than other animals. But this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Recently, We had a visitor and showed her a sweet, beautiful gelding up for adoption. I was telling her his story and she response by saying, "Oh, he's a rescue”. It was said in a way that implied a label of something was wrong with him. The truth is, there’s nothing wrong with him. The only difference is that life took an unexpected turn for them, and they ended up needing a new home.

At Happy Valley Horse Rescue, we invest time and effort to get to know each of these incredible animals. We work with them, sometimes for months, to understand their needs, personalities, and potential. Every animal has a different story, and we make sure to help them transition and thrive, regardless of their background.

Rescue animals teach us so much, especially about trust and patience. Some may have been through difficult times, lost a herd mate or a human caregiver, some are wild, and some have never known kindness, only work, but when that bond forms, it’s like no other. The connection you build with an animal, after earning their trust, is one of the most rewarding and special relationships you can experience.

Some of our intakes are older and retired, and because of that, we’ve added a sanctuary to our program. This allows these horses to live out their golden years with care, dignity, and love, even if they’re not candidates for rehoming. They’ve given so much over their lifetimes and deserve a peaceful place to rest.
Remember, rescue animals aren't damaged goods – they’re simply in need of a fresh start. When you look into the eyes of a rescue, you’re not seeing something broken. You’re seeing potential, resilience, and a heart ready to bond with a new family.

Next time you hear the word "rescue," think of it as a symbol of hope, not a label of damage.
