A great day Florida Horse Park for the MSC Horse Shows, Inc.!

Aiden & Mrs.Darcy strutted into their class with their best performance yet earning a fourth in the hunter U/S and a FIRST in equitation!! So proud of these two!!🤩🏆

William did incredibly well moving into the 2ft and other than throwing in a green porpoise maneuver🐬, Will did phenomenally and we can’t be prouder of this 5 year old and how he handled himself!!🦄

Aiden and Mrs.Darcy attended their first SPOOKTACULAR event at grand oaks with Horse Shows in the Park, LLC !! It was Darcy’s first time being dressed up and she as always took everything in stride!! Best baby pony ever!

Aiden’s first big class and he rode MAGNIFICENTLY!! I think the crown and tiara really brought the best out of them!🤣👑 This pair placed top 10, coming away with 7th place out of 23!!

Big shout out to Shawnee Stricker Bilbrey who not only is turning into a pro show mom, but also made Darcy’s outfit from scratch!!!! Seriously incredible!!!😱

Congratulations Aiden & Darcy!!!

We had an incredible show day last weekend at MSC Horse Shows, Inc. hosted by Majestic Oaks Ocala Farm!

Will entered into his division with a “Scream” themed costume!! Who doesn’t love ghost face?!👻 Although we were dressed as a killer, trust me when I say that Will is too slow to catch anyone!!🤣🐌 The grey baby did great for only his second show with ASE!!

Aiden and Darcy strutted into their U/S classes with their tribal themed costume and looked fantastic! 🪶

Vic the OTTB waltzed into his FIRST flat class EVER and came away with 2nd!!🤩 With only 3 months of training, he went around his flat like a complete pro!! And of course, we did it fashionably with a cops and robbers themed costume!!👮🏻‍♀️

Check this out!!!😱

We have a rehab/training horse that came in with fluid pooling in the tendon sheath of her knee after a bone chip removal surgery.🦴No pain and fully recovered from the surgery, but more so a cosmetic issue.

With a combination of micro current (curtesy of our amazing micro current tech-Shawnee), kinesiology taping, and controlled excercise, we were able to disperse the fluid!! 🤩

No injections, no medications, no laser!

Why do biomechanics matter?

No one uttered this term to me, in all my years of riding and lesson-taking, until I was well into my 20's. I heard lots of other words: contact, responsiveness, connection, rhythm, impulsion, suppleness. All of them felt like these ethereal concepts that had multiple meanings depending on who you talked to. They also had varying degrees of importance or ranking in terms of what you need first before the horse can offer the next thing, depending on who you talked to. I still see this all the time, and hear about how frustrating it is from other horsepeople trying to do the best they can.

Biomechanics are the physical relationships and structural laws that govern how living things move. Biomechanics are the HOW in all of those aforementioned ethereal terms. They are vital in understanding how to correctly develop a horse for riding. This is the first reason why biomechanics matter.

The second reason is because horses weren't designed to be ridden. I cannot overstate how important this is to understand if you want to ride horses and ride them well: horses were NEVER designed to be sat on. The horse is born with a specific set of biomechanical tools available to him, and they serve him very well...when they are needed.

The thing is, those tools were designed for maximum efficiency if the horse's life is in danger: used for brief moments, blips in between long stretches of calm. Those exact tools can cause injury, unsoundness, and degeneration if used every day, day in and day out, for years.
. . . . . . . .

I want you to look at these two photos.

The top horse is using what nature gave him (and what work with humans helped him turn into long-standing patterns in movement). The bottom horse has been given new tools and taught how to use them to move in ways that preserve soundness, not encourage degeneration.

The top horse is moving in a way that directly ties into the same sympathetic nervous system responses that kick in when a horse is in danger. The bottom horse is demonstrating all of the power potential the nervous system makes available when the horse is in danger, but accessing it through relaxation and completely different biomechanics.

The top horse is using the ground to support his weight in movement, putting a lot of pressure on his joints. The bottom horse is doing a lot of that supporting himself by virtue of his posture, putting significantly less strain on his joints.

You may have already figured out this is the same horse. These photos were taken approximately two years apart.

I guess what I'm getting at is this: the way to develop the bottom horse isn't to simply take the top horse and add contact, impulsion, responsiveness, ride circle after circle, do pole and hill work, etc. Whatever you apply to the ridden horse will only reinforce what is already in him.

You must teach him, literally from the ground up, a new way of moving, a different biomechanical perspective. Some horses will come by this easier than others, but not a one is born knowing how to put all of these things together on their own when the human asks it. Not a one.

We have to show them how.

Too many times do I see tools being used as weapons. Crops, whips, spurs, side reins, etc are supposed to be tools to aid our NATURAL aids and REFINE things the horse already knows or needs help further understanding. They are NOT supposed to be used to force submission or get quick results.

When our artificial aids become weapons, our horses become slaves instead of partners. They learn to fear and anticipate instead of being confident and independent. My horse should never anticipate anything. They should look for guidance and respond to my aids with confidence.

When a horse is taught to fear, they will constantly over react to pressure in which people will then say “the horse is reactive” or in some cases, fear turns to frustration and aggression and now they will say that horse is a “problem horse”.

Too many horses and ponies come to my program having holes in their training, fearing the use of basic aids, have anxiety under saddle, or react aggressively/fearfully to things that they should look forward too.

Lately, there has been a lot of toxicity and un-horseman like behavior. There are no “problem horses”, just problematic training methods. Be compassionate, be empathetic, STOP RUSHING!

Microcurrent session for the princess👸

We love seeing how the horses and ponies react to the micro current! All have a different reaction and a different opinion, but each and every one of them ends up licking, chewing, and yawning (signs of tension release and contentment)!

A month ago, this guy STRUGGLED to pick up the right lead and when he did he was unbalanced, uncomfortable, anxious, and defensive🥹

With a combination of patient training, chiropractic, microcurrent, and an awesome farrier, Vic feels great!!🤩

It’s amazing to think that this is the same horse that just 3 months ago couldn’t even stand in the middle of the arena with a rider without melting down🤯 We are so excited to see how far this guy goes🩷
