Kaylee found herself surrendered by her previous owner to BARCS in Baltimore for euthanasia at age 11. She had blood in her urine and a torn CCL, which I'm assuming her previous owner couldn't afford to have looked into. Since Kaylee is pretty much the sweetest dog ever, BARCS talked the owner into surrendering her into their care for treatment and adoption. They treated Kaylee for her UTI and had
her resting and on pain meds for her leg. Still, Kaylee sat for weeks in a shelter that sees an average of 33 new animals come in each day. My child, Raven, had been begging for us to adopt an old dog that might not otherwise get adopted. When we went to BARCS, Kaylee was the oldest dog there, and we immediately fell in love with her. We were able to take her home the next day! Kaylee is the most incredible dog you could ever ask for. She's an epic snuggler, walks well off leash, rides well in the car, is entirely housebroken, and even knows some tricks! I don't know who her previous owners were, but they must have loved her dearly to train her so well. But as we were showering Kaylee with love, we noticed some lumps in her throat. After several vet visits and a lot of testing, we learned that Kaylee has thyroid carcinoma and that it's metastasized to her lungs. This means we won't get to keep our sweet Kaylee for as long as we'd hoped. She has several other health issues (kidney issues, adrenal gland issues, and bladder issues), so between that and her age, our vet feels chemo isn't a good option for her. We agree. We want the end of Kaylee's life to be epic...the kind of grand finale that all dogs deserve. This page is about Kaylee and her bucket list.
