Golden Spike Dog Obedience Club (GSDOC)

We offer puppy socialization, Basic through Advanced Obedience, Agility and Rally instruction for our members, the public and their canine partners.

AKC Sanctioned GSDOC provides instruction in raising and training puppies and adult dogs. We provide instruction in basic and advanced Obedience, Agility, Rally and
Canine Good Citizen certification. The club holds an AKC Sanctioned Obedience Trial every March and two
AKC Sanctioned Agility Trials; one in January and one in July.

Good Evening!

Take a look at the stack of cat food below. The Madays have a big heart for cats and were excited to help out with our food drive.

This year has been a bit tougher than usual for many folks. The government shutdown, job layoffs, and rising cost of essentials like food and housing have taken a toll. Seniors, low-income families, and those facing tough times are working hard to care for both their families and their furry friend. We'd love your help! We're collecting dry or canned cat and dog food, along with any financial donations until December 2nd. Any little bit goes a long way in making life a bit easier for those in need.

A Fill the Bowl donation table and bucket will be set up this weekend at our Agility Trial!

🐾 Does your dog’s coat feel dull, itchy, or flaky? You might want to read this!

We all know that obedience training is only part of keeping our dogs thriving — their skin and coat health is equally important. The AKC just published a helpful article, “Dry Skin on Dogs: Signs, Symptoms, Treatments,” that breaks down:

✅ What causes canine dry skin (everything from allergies to parasites and even internal conditions)
✅ How to spot symptoms like dandruff, flaking, hair loss, and irritation
✅ What treatments and preventive steps you can take (diet, baths, humidifiers, vet care)

If your dog has ever scratched more than you’d like or looked a little too flaky after winter, this is a must-read. Let’s help our dogs feel just as good as they look during training, walks, and everywhere in between.

🎃🐾 What a spooktacular night! 👻

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Golden Spike Dog Obedience Club Halloween Party and General Meeting! We had such a frightfully fun time celebrating with our amazing members, adorable dogs in costume, and all the creative Halloween spirit you brought. 🐶✨

From clever costumes to lots of laughs (and a few treats!), it was a night to remember. Thank you for making our club such a wonderful community of dog lovers and friends. 💛🧡🖤

🎃🐾 It’s almost time for a spooky good time! 👻

Join the Golden Spike Dog Obedience Club for our October General Meeting & Halloween Party on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025!

We’ll kick off the evening with our monthly meeting, then dive into the Halloween fun — costumes, treats, laughter, and plenty of wagging tails! 🐶✨

Costumes are encouraged (for both pups and people) — and rumor has it, there may be prizes for the best dressed! 🧙‍♀️🦴

Costume Categories include: scarcest, funniest, best team, most creative/original, and most funny.

Registration for Session 4 of 2025 is still open. Classes start on Oct 7th, 2025 and registration closes on Oct 19th, 2025. Come join us for fun learning with your dog in a class of your choice.

We had a great September General Meeting with Mike Parmley. Learning about the rattlesnake snake aversion training and his methods including recognition via sight, hearing, and smell to avoid a rattlesnake is fascinating. He also brought to our attention the importance of knowing which vet emergency hospitals have rattlesnake antivenom on hand. We did call and check with Mountain West Veterinary Specialist in Layton, and they do not carry it. We want to thank Mike with Rattlesnake Alert for coming out and giving a great presentation.
