3rd and final required post for #hopteamkillian!!
Wow… how this horse has changed! I look back from where he was and am surprised at where he is!
This last weekend was probably the biggest and best weekend I have had with him. I took him to a reining show to just “be”. His biggest fear being people, I figured it wouldn’t hurt for him to sit in a stall and watch people walk by 24/7. The first day I got there he walked off the trailer so chill, so I decided to go ride him in a large outdoor arena. He just walked around and saw all the sights. The following morning I got up earlier and rode again, working on random things but asking more from him. We continued working each day. He got time riding in an indoor arena with other horses, getting hosed in a place where I didn’t think he’d even walk in, and advanced his ridding skills with each ride that we had. I was surprised with how well he did. At the end of the show, the random snorting for no reason stopped, he laid down at night, and he began to be a people person wanting attention at the front of his stall. Thank you R6J leather for sponsoring his stall this past weekend!
The ATFO starts next weekend! How have we already gotten here!
If you have thought about adopting Killian, here are some things you need to know!
- He needs an intermediate to advanced horse person who is willing to work with a trainer (if they’re intermediate) but they really need solid horse sense. He’s not bad in the saddle, he’s more scared on the ground.
- With being scared of on the ground, he needs someone who pays attention to their surroundings, and know that he can make a fast move if something happens.
- They need to understand that he was feral less than 100 days ago, and there is a possibility he might turn to some feral things again, but if corrected in the right way, he will continue to move on in the right direction and will soon let go of his past life.
- Right now, Killian would best fit as a trail hor
#hopteamkillian had his first day off the farm! We trailered to some local trails and we’re out for 4 hours! He did SO good! He loaded right up in the trailer and didn’t hesitate getting back in to head home! Though I didn’t ride him there, he got all the sights by tagging along and did so well. I had him take a saddle and there was no hesitation saddling him up at the trailer and heading out. I was expecting him to be a little cold backed walking away from the trailer but he walked on out as if he’s done it 1000 times. I was so impressed and proud of him! He didn’t spook when my horse did, and is proving himself to be quite the boy. The scariest thing was watching and listening to other voices and horses pass, but that was just a head up and ears forward watch!

Sumo and Kids!
The video of #HOPTeamSumo you’ve been waiting for! Sumo with kids! A few things about this video: I hadn’t worked Sumo since being at Elkins Creek (2/3 days), he was not worked at all before the girls rode. They were the ones who grabbed him from the pasture. Enjoy! Comment anything you want to see from him or any questions you have about him.

Day 8 with Sumo: #HOPTeamSumo
Woohoo! Second ride! Walk, trot, canter, with no buck! And a little bit of hind quarter control. The worst thing was the head tossing. But we’ll get that straightened out! He also learned that water is not that scary, and he actually enjoys it!
