I need help finding new sources for donated cat food! Or at least get more regular donations.
The places I usually rely on are starting to tighten how much they give out—mostly because they aren’t receiving many donations either. Cat food prices have gone way up. We just received a large bag of specially packaged PetSmart CHARITY food, which our cats love—but they’re now limiting that to once a month.
And here’s the thing: it doesn’t matter if cat food is “cheap”… if your cats won’t eat it, they won’t eat it. I’ve bought 40 lb. bags from Tractor Supply and Walmart, only to find our cats refuse it. People say, “They’ll eat it when they get hungry.” But for a rural, semi-feral colony, that mindset is dangerous. Hunger might drive them to roam, and roaming can mean injuries—or worse.
We’re trying to keep our eight outdoor cats safe, fed, and within the boundaries of our property. We have had cats come back injured or sprayed with unknown substances. That’s not a risk we’re willing to take again.
This is the reality of caring for a cat colony.
I’m very grateful to my two regular benefactors, but I also have around 1,000 followers on this account—and honestly, I rarely receive new donations. Not even a dollar or two. I know money is tight, and people are more likely to give when they can write it off, or when it goes to an “official” charity. I get it.
In the past, I’ve tried boosting posts, but Meta charges an arm and a leg. I’m now working full-time, and my partner—who’s home more—handles most of the daily care. But we just don’t have the time or bandwidth to make flashy, viral videos. We’re living paycheck to paycheck too.
Still, if every person who sees this post donated just $2, we’d raise over $1,000. That would go a long way—covering food, litter, and even vet care if needed.
This isn’t just a plea—it’s our reality.
If you have even a couple of bucks to spare, please consider donating to support this private, out-of-pocket cat colony. We’re keeping 15 cats out of shelters and foster systems. We didn’t choose this—they chose us. We've gotten them all fixed and vaccinated, but we aren’t rich, and we’re juggling other responsibilities too.
I’m doing what I can to educate people in our local area about TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and to change how folks see colony cats. I believe that through awareness, we can reduce the population and create healthier outcomes—even for feral and semi-feral cats.
So again, if you can spare just $2, it would mean the world. Thank you so much. 💛
(note that you can do a recuring $3 dollar (or less) donation monthly and that is cheaper than a cup of fancy coffee at starbucks!)
