Welcome to our page, and thank you for your support!
If you're new here, first of all, thanks for liking. Secondly, you might be wondering what we're all about. Well, we take care of a semi-feral cat colony in Brown County, Ohio. We have around 15 outdoor cats, mostly TNR'd (fixed), and 7 that we care for indoors.
A few years ago, one of our outdoor cats showed up with an injured eye. We don't know how it happened; someone may have kicked her. She underwent surgery and now has one eye. At the time, she had a kitten we took in, and we also had 3 other cats we had fixed. Being on alert during the pandemic, we kept them inside, hoping to find forever homes. Unfortunately, luck wasn't on our side. Shelters were at capacity, and with the shutdown, the kitten/cat population exploded due to a glut of litters.
Living in a rural area makes getting cats fixed logistically challenging and expensive. We've relied on private donors, vouchers, free grant programs, and personal funds to fix as many as we can. The pandemic made it easier as I worked from home, providing more flexibility. While we've fixed the majority of the cats, there are still 3-4 we can't easily grab. Logistically, trapping and taking them to an affordable place is difficult. Our population has stabilized, and we hope to address the remaining few next spring.
Finding forever homes for indoor cats has been challenging. We now have 7 indoor cats, which weren't initially planned, but we do what we can, relying on private donations and scraping together our own money to buy food and cat litter for them. Unfortunately, as we're not a 501c3, we're not eligible for additional funding.
Being a cat colony caretaker is tough, as many do it out of the kindness of their hearts. Without a few thoughtful benefactors, it would be even harder. Alongside caring for our cats, we've taken on the responsibility to educate the community and provide information about semi-feral and feral cat colonies. There always seems to be plenty of resources for dogs, but not as many for cats.
Anyway, that is our story. We have goals to improve the room where our 7 indoor cats are, hoping to provide more enrichment and scratching posts etc. The outdoor ones we have to keep fed and watered and warm.
Your help either through a monetary donation Or through our Amazon WISH LIST does help us to achieve these aims.
Thank you so much for your support and kindness. Please spread the word. Thanks
