Shimmy the Aussie's Weight Loss Journey

Shimmy the Aussie's Weight Loss Journey Hi, my name is Shimmy and I am 3 years old. I have had a bit of a lazy start to life which landed me overweight and in a rescue.

My foster mom and rescue family said its time to learn to play and eat healthier. Join me on the "biggest looser" dog life!

Shimmy has had so many new life events since she joined Miller's Cause Animal Rescue in January. Her weight loss journey has been remarkable and she’s done so well over six months. She has a few more pounds to loose and we are excited to continue to get updates on her over the next few weeks. Shimmy is super excited to announce a very special day as she starts a new journey with her new dad. HAPPY ADOPTION DAY Shimmy. Congratulations William.

Shimmy spent the day with Jessi at ROC Animal Training and Behavior. On her way home we stopped at Hollywood Feed for a weight check. We haven’t made much change this week but we are hopeful for good weather and more walks.

It’s a Friday update. Shimmy is making progress in her walks. She made it 11 houses before turning around and was only five houses from home before she had to take a rest stop. Her weigh in this week was awesome. From her original weight of 127 pounds to Monday this week she was down 11 pounds to 116. Foster mom can tell she’s moving better.

Welcome to my page.

My name is Shimmy and I am a 3 year old Standard Aussie who was originally adopted at approximately 1 year of age and a weight of 45 pounds from a local shelter. Here I am a little over two years later and was returned to the shelter at 127 pounds (280 percent of my ideal weight).

Why was I returned? Well quite simply because I had gotten so big that I was getting in the way.

The shelter staff were quite concerned about me and felt I was going to need a medical assessment and care they would be unable to provide for me before I could be adopted into a new home. So they did the best thing for me and reached out to see if a rescue could take me into their care. I’m really grateful Miller's Cause Animal Rescue agreed to take me into their program and help me get started on my new journey.

One of the very first things they did for me was to get me in to see Dr. Harris Halo Animal Hospital
I am probably one of the most overweight dogs she has ever cared for. She did lab work and an exam to make sure i didn’t have any medical reasons to have gained this much weight in such a short time frame. All my lab work was normal. So that’s really good. It just means I was probably allowed to eat toooo much and not exercise enough.

I have been told I will need to be on a weight management food and an exercise program. At first that sounded like a lot to manage but so far it’s been kinda easy. My foster mom gives me just a certain amount of the special weight food twice a day and takes me for walks. Which I love to go out and walk. Of course I get kinda tired and short of breath but I’m getting better and able to go a little farther all the time.

Foster mom says I am a super sweet girl and I do well with other dogs and even the kitties. I really enjoy going outside and trying to play with my foster fur siblings. Sometimes I can’t keep up yet but I try really hard. Maybe that is how I got my name Shimmy. I like to shimmy and shake and show off my Aussie wiggle butt.

I look forward to taking my friends on my journey back to being able to do all those Aussie things like run, jump, wiggle and play.

If you are interested in opening your home to fostering me and helping me get back into Aussie shape the rescue foster application is attached.

The Rescue can provide crate, food, meds, prevention etc.
I just need someone to open their home and give a little of your time to take me for walks and maybe to swim time when I loose a bit more weight.

If you can help cover some of my expenses for food, medical or swim therapy the rescue is always always grateful for any support.
