The Mane Attraction 2025 has added Liberty Cunningham - Trick & Roman Rider to the line up! Liberty Cunningham is a very accomplished young horsewoman who performs Trick Riding, Roman Riding and Liberty all around the country. I can’t wait to see her perform at this event in Oklahoma! Check out her page.
Make plans to attend the Mane Attraction, it’s also the event where I will be competing in the Trainer’s Challenge with my current competition horse, Dusty!
The goal of this event is to highlight all types of horses and the versatility of disciplines within the horse industry! It’s going to be an amazing event for anyone to enjoy!
Even if you don’t own horses or don’t know much about them, it will be a FUN and interactive way to see them. Bring your kids, they’ll love it!

Chase it:

I know you’re scared. Scared of the risk and the chance of failure. I know you’re scared of the chance others will think you’re crazy and no one will support you. I know you fear your own doubts and the what ifs. The fear of the unknown puts you in chains and prevents you from moving forward. But it’s not going to wait for you. Life will move forward at a steady rate whether you take the chance or not. So chase it. Chase the dream that keeps you up at night with the questions of the unknown and what ifs. Chase the idea that haunts you everyday until you make it come to life. Chase the opportunities in front of you no matter how crazy they may seem. No one can chase it for you. No matter your fears, the life and opportunities you want will not happen without your effort. What’s the worst that will happen? You fail or others talk about you? Then keep trying and keep chasing until it happens. What if you make the choice to chase the dream and you receive more out of it than you ever thought possible? Stop waiting for the right time. Stop waiting for the approval of others. Stop waiting and chase the life that you want. What are you waiting for because it won’t wait for you. So, chase it.

The beauty of unremarkable training.

I would be the first to admit to anyone watching one of my sessions, particularly one where I’m working with a young or inexperienced horse, that it can be like watching paint dry! The movements are subtle, the changes in posture, energy, rhythm, line, movement, gait, all seem to happen unnoticed. There are no waving flags, and yet the horse is desensitised. There are no sharp movements, and yet the horse is energized.

Plain trots, simple canters, flowing lines, and organized shapes, which are appropriate for the horse’s current proficiency. This is how we help the horse. This is how we help him to improve his strength and suppleness. Gentle adjustments to the tempo to aid balance and stability. The right balance of these elements produces the ‘frame’; the lift in the chest that we so need in order to help our riding horse do his job better, irrespective of sport or discipline.

Remember, it is not the job of the rider’s hands and legs to produce the movements and frames we want. It is the job of the rider’s mind to create the right environment by choosing the right lines tempos and shapes, and the rider’s hand and leg are there to receive the information from the horse, to ‘fine tune’ what was already there.

Don’t be in a hurry to ride more elaborate or ‘fancy’ work. Don’t feel pressured into trying to run before you can walk. Simple work, executed very well, will get you further than you ever imagined if you give it time.

You Vs. You

Competition. Envy. Drive to be at the top. We all feel it. We watch as those around us achieve the things we want so badly. We also put pressure on ourselves to compete with others and be on the same playing field as them. We feed off of the pressure, trash talk, rumors, and emotions that others reflect towards us. It’s not about the competitive edge that we chase after. It’s not about the scenarios of competition we make up in our minds to compete against someone else. Or to achieve something first. It’s You Vs. You. It’s the competition that you are in with yourself that matters the most. Don’t stress about what others are doing and achieving. Compete with yourself. Be so competitive with yourself that you become blind to those around you trying to be in competition with you. Every day you should be trying to be better than you were yesterday. Not better than someone else. You have got to let go of all these negative feelings and envy you feel towards others. Turn that energy inwards. Take this energy and focus on beating the version of yourself you were last time in the arena. Reflect on your mistakes and make changes. If you can outperform the version of yourself that competed last time then every run is a victory. No body can make you get better, faster, smarter, or stronger except for you. Work on the competition with yourself for six months. You will notice the difference it makes in your perspective and your skills. It’s You Vs. You. And make that competition the strongest one out of them all and the only competition that truly counts. You Vs. You.

Dusty’s first show is in the books! I’m so beyond proud of this sweet girl. I’ve asked a lot from her in the past few weeks and she has tried her heart out for me. This horse is really cool! We did a showmanship class and got first place 🥇, then she stood tied quietly for several hours while I showed my mustang, Kaz, in a few classes.

Happy Gotcha Day Kaz💫🖤
(I’m actually a day late but it’s ok)

I got Kaz a year ago yesterday! It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come together. He’s been one of the toughest horses I’ve ever worked with, but he has made everything worth it. I honestly had no intentions of keeping him when I got him, but he’s proven himself to me time and time again, and has earned his permanent spot in my herd. I thank God for placing this special horse in my life. He knew exactly what I needed when He gave me Kaz. Now to get his title so he can officially be mine!

Making sure my horses look and feel their best is a huge part of my training program. First session with Dusty! I’m letting her finish her quarantine where she is before I bring her home, and today was the first day Dusty was able to be worked with.
She made so much progress in such a short amount of time. She is definitely going to be a challenge in the beginning, but I know once we have our breakthrough she’s going to be amazing! I’m excited to continue working with her and see how far we can get!

I can’t wait to get this pretty girl started on some Vizion Equine Products and see her bloom! Thank you to everyone who has helped me and made this possible. Dusty and I have some work to do, but we’re up for the challenge!

I selected my horse today for The Mane Attraction 2025! Meet NR Dusts Last, AKA “Dusty”, a 5 year old gray Quarter Horse mare. I can’t wait to pick her up and get to work! We will have the next 5 months to work together and prepare for the trainer’s challenge in April.
