My Week at ABSOULUTLY SUCKED.
Wednesday----- if you have a pup that limping this is something to take seriously. Get an Xray. My most recent Bolonka import from Spain has been diagnosed with Legg Calve Perthes. This is no joke. Very painful for her. She is not even one year old. I have only had her since March. She started limping and I could not figure out why. So we took a trip to the vet for an X-ray. [see below] $300 vet bill. Now this is leading to another $1400.00 for surgery [discounted by my vet] to include spay as this is a hereditary condition. She is going to live with my dear friend Tina Edquist after her surgery. It was bad enough when her DNA came back as 59.4% Poodle. Which I already had plans to spay her just for that reason. I inform the breeder and get an "my dogs are healthy response".. well I think NOT. Please I beg breeders to Health Test their dogs/ then take the extra step to CERTIFY with OFA. There is a lot to be gained there. Statics are correct when certified. Knowledge is key, if you don't test how do you know.
In case you are not familiar---Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCP) is a painful condition that affects the hip joint of young dogs, causing the femoral head and neck to collapse:
Symptoms
LCP causes lameness, pain, and secondary osteoarthritis. It can also lead to a flattened femur, thickened cartilage around the joint, and stiffness.
The icing on the cake of the week is my BIS CH. Redhawks Ohh Lah Lah [Redbone Coonhound} old girl went over rainbow bridge. She will be missed and was a vital part in my success as a breeder/owner/handler of Westminster Top 5 RBs, She was Mother to over 14 Bred By Champions with Good hips & Elbows, DM, DCM clear. Eyes clear.
My week just sucked..
