Lincoln Update – Being Fully Transparent
A lot of people have been asking what happened to Lincoln, and we want to be as transparent as possible about this. It’s a tough subject, but we believe in sharing the full story—especially when it comes to the safety of the dogs in our care.
I’m Kathryn—I foster for Silver Paws and help Tabitha behind the scene. I don’t usually post here, but I need to share this with you all.
Lincoln was just doing what he always does—wandering the house, his home—where he should have been safe. But I failed him. A basket that had been blocking a door shifted just enough for him to slip through. The door should have been closed, but a broken magnet meant it didn’t latch properly. The door led to a space that belongs to one of our dogs, who’s particular about her space, and in one split second, my mistake turned into one of the biggest regrets of my life.
Her reaction was immediate. Lincoln’s scream and the sight of his injuries will haunt me forever. But this isn’t about me—it’s about Lincoln.
I want to be clear: Lincoln is my fospice dog, which means he’s with us for life. He’s part of our family now, just like Marsha and the others. He’ll never be rehomed or passed on, no matter what.
This was an accident that could have happened to anyone. We’ve had a lot of stress lately with our move to a new house, and we’re all still figuring out the new boundaries. This could’ve been prevented, but we’re still all learning. Our house is a new environment for everyone—dogs and humans included—and, unfortunately, that’s what led to this. But the good news is, this was a one-time accident, and the sanctuary has been incident-free.
After days in the hospital, Lincoln is finally home. He’s perking up, wagging his tail again, and I’m not leaving his side. He’ll always have someone by his side—whether it’s me or another person—24/7. He’s safe, he’s loved, and he’s staying right here

🎉 Happy Birthday to Tabitha! 🎉
Today, Tabitha turns 31—and it’s no exaggeration to say she’s spent over two decades of her life dedicated to animal rescue. While most of us were playing outside, watching cartoons, or just being kids, 9-year-old Tabitha was spending her Saturdays making a difference.
It all started in her home state of California, where she walked into a pet store one weekend and found a rabbit rescue hosting an adoption event. She asked what they were doing, and instead of brushing her off, they handed her a stack of papers and told her to come back if she wanted to learn more. That day, Tabitha went home, read every single page (more than once), and returned the next weekend.
From that moment on, Tabitha spent every Saturday volunteering—cleaning cages, feeding animals, and eventually fostering rabbits with special needs. She cared for paralyzed rabbits, ones with head tilts, limb differences, and more, all while gaining a deeper understanding of just how many animals need help.
After her first year of college, Tabitha moved to Arizona, where her focus shifted to dogs. Working as a vet tech, she saw firsthand the immense need in the area. She began rescuing moms and their puppies, saving countless lives in the process. But when she and her husband, Tyler, eventually moved to Oklahoma, Tabitha discovered an even greater need here.
Over the years, Tabitha helped establish and run two rescues before realizing where her heart truly lies: senior and special needs animals. Now, as the founder and president of Silver Paws, she pours everything she has into these animals.
And when I say everything, I mean everything. Tabitha is a mom to three young kids, including a newborn, and still knows each sanctuary dog like they’re family. She remembers every dog’s favorite blanket, their quirks, the places they like to hide, and the weird, silly things that make them unique. She’s not just their rescuer—she’s their person.
To honor Ta
The things we do for love... and seniors. Did I gag making these stinky tuna treats for New Years? Oh, absolutely. But they only take a few minutes and 3 simple ingredients—and the oldies LOVED them.
