Pet Adoption & Welfare Services of OK (PAWS-OK) We are a 501(c)3 non-profit feline rescue operating in the Oklahoma City area. We do not adopt out any kittens younger than 4 months of age.

PAWS-OK rescues unwanted or abandoned cats surrendered by citizens in the Oklahoma City area. Our vets test them for Feline Leukemia and FIV, spay or neuter them and bring them up-to-date on their required vaccinations. They are then fostered in a home environment and, when ready, made available for adoption to new loving individuals and families. PAWS-OK is not a shelter and we reserve the right

to deny adoption to individuals with poor vet care histories. The majority of our cats are surrendered to us by their owners and we have a verbal agreement with them to place their cats into homes that meet our adoption guidelines without regard to the length of time it takes to find such homes. Our Adoption Guidelines are also a commitment we make to our volunteer foster parents who can have the final word on adoption approvals. If you are interested in adopting from PAWS-OK, please download an Adoption Request Form from our website at www.pawsok.com. All applications are closely reviewed and references are contacted to determine the appropriateness and pet ownership history of potential adopters. Approvals can take up to 4 days.

ADOPTED! Tux found a wonderful new home recently with a great couple from OKC. He has a new "bestie" in the form of an orange & white tabby brother named Percy too!
We were alerted about Tux by a previous adopter (from California) who was intown for a family gathering. Tux was a neighborhood stray whose personality convinced many of the neighbors to feed him. When we met him he was curled up, purring in a girls lap and we knew immediately this sweet little guy needed a loving, safe indoor home for him. Congratulations to Tux and his great new family!

ADOPTED! Vinnie found a wonderful new home with a nice lady from Shawnee recently. It was love at first sight for both of them! Vinnies new mom lives with her daughter who also has a cat named Dottie to play with in his new home (if his new mom ever lets him off her lap LOL!). Vinnie was one of 5 kittens from 2 litters that were surrendered to us last July when their owners were threatened with eviction due to their cat population (we also s/n four other adults in the small apartment). Vinnie is beautiful and gentle with a little kitten playfulness too, after all he is only 9 months old! Congratulations to Vinnie and his new mom!

We want to bring attention to a trio of cats we currently have who are looking for great new homes. We do not accept known FIV+ cats in our rescue but occasionally it is unavoidable because it saves others (see Hazels story) or we find out their status after they are in our system. The three here have been waiting a while for a new home and go with us regularly to our Meet & Greets at A1 Pet Emporium each month. PAM is a beautiful tabby & white female with a super sweet personality. STEVE is a younger orange tabby (who came in with Pam) and has a lot of pent up energy who loves to play and makes the most of every day. HAZEL is older and has been with us since 2021. She was at risk (along with her newborn kittens) at a local shelter due to her FIV status. Hazel is a bit on the heavy side but loves to be brushed and is quiet and watchful. All three are in great health and have been since we got them. Learn about each of them from their listings on Adopt-a-pet (below), let us know if you have any questions and come by to see them on Feb 15th at out event at A1 Pet Emporium on Britton Road (noon to 4 PM).

ADOPTED! Sandy (tabby) and Lucy (grey & white) found a new home together recently with a great mother and daughter from OKC. Sandy is a 4YO beauty that was surrendered to us in late September 2024. She had been well taken care of by employees of a small concrete plant on Wilshire since she had showed up a few years ago. When the plant was sold, Sandy didn't have anywhere to go so they called us! Lucy (who is about 18 months old) was surrendered with her three newborn kittens to us in May 2024. She had been a neighborhood cat who a sweet young lady took in one night and the next morning found that Lucy rewarded her with 3 kittens. Although these two girls came from different backgrounds and were different ages with different experiences, and despite a little hissing (from Sandy) at the Meet & Greet at PetSmart - Lucy just wanted to PLAY! - their moms have reported that they are adjusting to their new home and each other wonderfully. Congratulations to Sandy and Lucy and their new moms!

Daisy and her sister Clarabelle were returned to us a in early January because their caretaker had passed away after a long fight with cancer. They were born in May 2019 and adopted a few months later. As you can see, they are considerably larger now, and not in a good healthy way. We will be limiting their intake and feeding a healthy weight formula to try to trim them down a bit. Daisy was quite opposed to coming with us when we picked them up (it took 90 minutes and bite gloves) but Clarabelle was much easier to handle. Of course we took them straight to our vet for vaccine updates and general health checks and they were both angels for them lol. They have settled down considerably now in foster care although strangers are still scary for them (I don't think they had been out of their owners home for many years). Obviously keeping your cats at a healthy weight and making sure they are exposed and handled by non-owners (like the vet at yearly exams?) is not only good for their physical health, but also their mental health should the unimaginable occur.

Meet our first rescues of 2025! They were found by a high school student in a laundry basket sitting on a sidewalk on Jan 17th during that real cold snap. Luckily a teacher heard about the find, spoke with the student and PAWS and arranged to bring them to us at our Mett & Greet at A1 Pet Emporium (Edmond) last weekend. Many shoppers (and staff) had a great time cuddling these little guys that day. They are now in a PAWS-OK foster home and will be receiving their first kitten boosters this week. They could be available for adoption as early as the end of March.

ADOPTED! Jelly Bean has been adopted by a great lady from OKC who has a soft spot for older cats! Jelly's mom was owner surrendered to PAWS, pregnant in February 2015. A few days later she gave birth to a litter that included Jelly and her sister Cupcake. Fast forward to August when the sisters were adopted by a nice woman from Piedmont. Jump forward again to January of 2023 when the sisters were returned to PAWS because their mom had been hospitalized. When they came back to PAWS they were both on the rather large size, but with a proper feeding schedule the weight began to come off. Cupcake found a great home a few months later and now Jelly has her new home as well! Congratulations to Jelly and her new mom!

ADOPTED! Wayne found a great new home with a young man from OKC recently. Wayne is an only pet in his new home so he will have all of his new dad's attention. Wayne is one of the "OKC Zoo" litter, born in a PAWS-OK foster home in March of 2023. Wayne's' mom was a stray that was living in the Maintenance shed and her male kittens were named after the maintenance guys! Congratulations to Wayne and his new dad!

ADOPTED! Vic found a wonderful new home in mid-December with a lovely couple from Stillwater who wanted a companion for their older cat, Chloe. His new Dad works from home and mom is a long time cat lover and volunteer. Vic is one of 5 kittens that were surrendered to PAWS-OK by a cat loving couple who got into hot water with their apartment manager over their cat population and were facing eviction. We picked up the kittens and helped the renters get their adult cats (including Vic's mom) spayed and neutered too. At last word, Vic has made fast friends with Chloe. Congratulations to Vic and his new family!

ADOPTED! Trapper found a great new home with a young family from OKC recently. Mom and her two kids came in to look at a different cat but fell in love with Trapper when they discovered his laid back personality fit perfect with her active daughter. Trapper was a stray that wandered into the garage (and live trap) of one of our volunteers when she was trying to trap her own feral for a vaccine update. AT first he was a bit scared but settled down quickly and at his Meet & Greet with his new family, was content to be picked up and cuddled by his new big sister. His new mom says that he likes to play with the kids when they get home from school, but is also enjoys his private time for his kitty naps. Congratulations to Trapper and his new family!

Are you getting your cats annual Wellness Exams? Recently we have seen an uptick in potential adopter beliefs that "indoor only" cats do not need to see a vet for an annual exam and only if the cat is sick. Most vets give non-core feline vaccines (FVRCP & FeLv) based on the cats exposure risks but its important to keep in mind that having a current Rabies vaccine is state law. However seeing the vet each year is not just about vaccines, its about much more! We have had NUMEROUS young rescued apparently happy & healthy cats come into our care with undetected illnesses and conditions that, if left unchecked, would have seriously effected their quality of life. Cats are "experts" at hiding illness! For more information on wellness exams go to https://www.aaha.org/resources/why-are-regular-veterinary-visits-important/

ADOPTED! Tim found a wonderful new home with a father and daughter from Blanchard recently. She had seen Tim in our Adoption Center at PetSmart and fell in love with him and thought he's be a great companion as she starts her first year of college online in the fall. Tim is one of the "Zoo" kittens who was born in a PAWS-OK foster home after his mom, who lived in an OKC Zoo Maintenance Shed, was surrendered pregnant. He is a beautiful tuxedo with long legs, half a mustache and a sweet disposition. Congratulations to Tim and his new family!

Our Story

Founded in 2008, PAWS-OK is a small cat rescue whose focus is on helping local citizens who, for personal reasons, must surrender their house pets, or who find friendly cats in their neighborhoods who need homes. In June 2011, PAWS-OK partnered with PetSmart Charities and began offering cats and kittens for adoption in the PetSmart Adoption Center on NW Hwy at Rockwell. The adoption Center is open 9-7 Monday thru Saturday and 10-6 on Sundays.

We do not adopt out any kittens younger than 4 months of age.

Our Mission: To facilitate the placement of family pets into loving homes for life and to support the reduction in cats-at-large through spay and neuter. PAWS-OK is not a shelter and we reserve the right to deny adoption to individuals with poor vet care histories.
