Be a good guest this holiday season and keep your hands to yourself. Just because a dog approaches to sniff you doesn’t mean they’re inviting you to touch them. Respect boundaries of both the owner and the pet and avoid intentionally or inadvertently encouraging misbehavior in other people’s pets!

I get asked by new clients if I want them to show me how the dog reacts to triggers. The answer is always a definitive No! I don't need to be mauled at the front door to believe when you say your dog doesn't like strangers entering the home!

The reality is that in order to change a behavior problem we want to keep your dog calm and relaxed AT ALL TIMES. Here's a blog I wrote about the benefits of avoiding triggers from day one. We frequently recommend virtual consultations when your dog is stressed by visitors in the home. Let us teach you how to manage your dog's behavior first. Then we can work more effectively with your dog during in person visits.

You wanted In-Home Training sessions for your dog's poor behavior. Why was a virtual consultation was recommended?

Why I don’t let other people pet my dog in public:
1) She isn’t public property and she trusts me to keep her safe
2) Her reinforcers, whether food or affection, come from me, not strangers
3) It’s my responsibility to set her up for success
4) Kids and Adults often aren’t polite to dogs or knowledgeable about canine social cues
5) I am my dog’s only and best advocate
6) She doesn’t want strangers touching her (and you probably don’t either!)

It’s okay to tell people that they can’t touch your dog!

Packages include private training sessions and group class credits that allow you to pursue your training and dog activity interests!
