We can’t thank Open Range Creations and Horsemanship enough! They seriously discounted down their products for us to get these guys all their own personal sets! You can donate to pay towards the balance by contacting them, they’ve been so helpful to us! Yesterday these heavy duty, mustang quality sets came in handy as we were able to fully vet the entire group with vaccines, wormer, fresh coggins test, pregnancy test for Swazey, and X-rays where needed! And not to mention 10/13 got their feet done! It was a long day and a full story post and photos of that are coming soon as we were lucky to have a photographer to document the day so I’ll wait to post more on that until I have her photos!

We were contacted by the blm a few days ago to assist with taking in 2 mustangs that the owner could no longer properly care for, the owner had no means to transport them back to the blm themselves. Incredibly greatful to our dear friend Unbridled Ranch who swung by and got these two babies for us Friday evening. They are looking for their forever home, both are incredibly sweet and want all the love! They’re yearlings one is a grey gelding from little Colorado Wyoming and the other is a bay filly from twin peaks California. If you’re wanting a big horse twin peaks horses are on average 15-16hh. They are still on blm contract so you’ll need 5’ fencing and an approved application. Please message us if you can give a loving home to one of these babies!

A Before and During photo of Takini, she came to us easily on of the most critical I really wasn’t sure if she’d be standing the next morning when we got up but she’s here and she’s a fighter! She came to us with her entire back scabbed over with thick fungal scars, today she’s sporting a bald but healing look! Her hair will grow back but I’m sure she’s so much more comfortable finally having all those scabs gone! Weeks of anti fungal and anti microbial gels application to her scabs and good nutrition has finally allowed her to start to heal. Still a long road to go but man she’s looking better!

Thank you to all who have donated the products that have helped her begin to heal!

Dusty and the pinto mare are loving their new fly sheets and masks thank you to who donated these for them! There’s a few others close to being able to wear theirs to just not pushing them to much yet! Farrier day is coming up soon and we can’t wait! This mare will require x-rays before her trim to get a good look at what’s going on with their feet 🤞🏻 that they are just wonky from years in mud and nothing more serious.

Thank you all again for the support!

Swazey day 1 and day 17. She’s looking much better physically and mentally. From what we’ve been able to track down of her history this girl has the possibility of being bred….could you imagine living through what she’s been through and somehow managing to still grow a baby at the same time. She is not trained so we will have the vet draw blood for pregnancy determination in our chute once she’s a little healthier. Fingers crossed she is not bred as she has enough of a fight to get healthy for herself. 💔

Prayers and good vibes for one of the lucky 13 today. This is Dusty one of the 3 mules that are apart of the seized group this morning he wasn’t acting his normal self and then subsequently started throwing himself on the ground and rolling, clearly uncomfortable and the vet was called. He received a full exam and is being treated now, the vet will be out for the next few days to administer ongoing treatment for him. She suspects a colitis infection spread by a organism found in unsanitary conditions and has likely been brewing for some time to affect him in this way. He’s in good hands now and handling it all like a champ. He’s being the best boy with it all and deserves all the help he can get!

Just a quick update on The Lucky 13. Everyone is doing well, we all took a collective breather from people and social media yesterday and just enjoyed our horses!

I wanted to thank Shelley Bott Hughston and Hughston Rob at West Michigan Wild Mustangs, LLC for stopping over yesterday and donating some hay to these guys!

More to come tomorrow ❤️

So instead of doing horse of the day we’d like to thank Kent Feeds for their support of !!! It’s amazing the amount of support and networking we’ve been helped with on this! Thank you to our good friend Patti Gruber at Operation Wild Horse - Veterans R&R for making the call to get this rolling for them! Kent feeds stopped by with a truck bed full of their best feeds for these guys! Our vet advised waiting 2 more weeks to introduce grain into their soaked alfalfa mash, and I’m sure they will start to blossom in no time!

UPDATE: Meet Baylin ❤️

Horse of the day!
Please share your name ideas we love reading them all!

This strong mare is a 8yr old bay mare from Spruce-Pequop Nevada herd management area.

What we have been able to track down of her story….She was originally adopted from the blm by someone other than the hoarder she was bred to a grade palomino stud and had a buckskin baby in spring of 2022. She and her foal were purchased by the hoarder in fall of 2022. Her foal managed to survive this ordeal and is very bonded with her mama.

She was never trained at her original home and remains untrained after her time spent with the hoarder.

Included is a photo of what she looked like in her original adopters home.

UPDATE: Meet Takini ❤️

Horse of the day!
Let’s give her a name she deserves!

This sweet soul is a 5yr old sorrel mare from the Antelope Valley Nevada herd management area. She is in my opinion the worst of the group.

She was picked up by the hoarder in May of 2022. We are unsure of her training level at this exact moment as we are not asking anything of them yet but what I can tell you is she is sweet and asks for attention. 💔

UPDATE: Meet Swazey 💕 Keep her in mind if you think you may want to adopt one of the lucky 13 once they’re ready!

Horse of the day!
Please help us in giving this beautiful mare a name!

She is a 7yr old from Swazey Utah herd management area, gathered in 2020.

What we have been able to find of her story is that she was bought by the hoarder from the Stroud Oklahoma horse pen in October of 2023 with her young foal at side and another mustang mare. Unfortunately her baby and the other mare did not survive this ordeal.

She is still untrained.

Another awesome way to help out the lucky 13! Thank you!

The Lucky 13

Today was a good day, a quick down pour helped wash away some of the caked on mud so many have been living with.

A new update on identifying these horses, the last of the group who’s brand I couldn’t read and didn’t recognize from posts shared with us has been identified ❤️ The bay mare is a 7yr old from Spruce Pequop NV. She wasn’t photographed but that doesn’t make her any less important! BUT WAIT it gets better! The 2yr old buckskin filly that is unbranded is actually her daughter!!!!! It’s so incredible to me that this mother and daughter have survived this ordeal together after being purchased together in fall of 2022, I can’t even begin to imagine what they witnessed together 💔

Starting tomorrow we will make a post for each individual animal to formally introduce them and what we know of their history as well as ask for help from all of you to give a good name to those who have no name!

Update on Koiyah and Rockstar as well as so many of you have asked, they’re doing well, eating well and drinking well Rockstar reminds of every day that he was a prominent stud with his massive stud pile 😅. Koiyah is so sad to watch she’s petrified after all she’s been through and chased around the county for 2 weeks back in May I don’t blame her for being cautious, she clings to Rockstar and he reassures her everything is gonna be alright now. ❤️ Thankfully they were the 2 of the most recently acquired horses at this hell hole so they were spared much of the suffering the others endured for longer. But still to see the matted braids in Koiyahs mane, a sign that she once trusted humans, is a glaring reminder that she, like everyone else, deserved better!

Momma and baby are doing well, I wonder how good it feels for him to lay on solid dry ground and bask in the sunshine for the first time in his life. Soon he will have his formal hands on vet evaluation from our vet so we can see what if any more options he has for correcting his deformities from not being able to move naturally and starvation. We wanted to give him a few days to rest and eat and drink before asking him to do anymore than that.

Thank you doesn’t even begin to express how we feel, the support from the mustang community has been enormous and these horses and us are forever thankful for it! It’s amazing to see people with all different views on mustangs to come together for the one thing we can all agree on, we love them, and they deserve the best care we can possibly provide.

The Lucky 13

On 7/30/2024, Kody and I were alerted to an ongoing animal abuse and neglect situation in northern Michigan. We are no strangers to assisting in cases like this with mustangs but what unfolded is the most horrific thing I have ever heard of. Viewer discretion advised as the images are hard to look at and honestly this story is not easy to hear.

Kody and I were informed of multiple equine needing immediate assistance and of course we were happy to help. They came into our care on 8/3/2024 with most suffering from horrible skin issues from what we can assume is standing in deep deep mud for a long time and most couldn’t be more emaciated. These precious horses have a long way to go but we have faith in them, that’s what mustangs do, they survive….

Animal control has been amazing in their prompt and serious handling of this situation ❤️

There were untitled blm horses (yes blm is aware), titled blm horses (none were AIP), sale authority horses, forest service horses, mustangs she bought out of kill pens that foaled there and had to watch their babies die. Every single baby born there is dead except for one foal who has a long road of recovery ahead of him.

There are two horses on the property that were sold to this woman by a party that knew darn well she had too many horses and did not properly care for or train what she already had. They didn’t care, they just saw financial opportunity, so no, if you know the original owner of those horses they will not be returned if they are even alive, or survive, as they knew what they were doing, and no one should ever support a hoarder…

I am equally devastated for every horse there but there are some you all know and love as well.

Rockstar – South Steens sorrel documented band stallion (Alive)
Loki – South Steens black documented band stallion (RIP)
OQ44srM – Onaqui mare tag 7991 lilac roan (RIP)
Koiyah – Sand Wash Basin palomino mare (Alive)
2 other South Steens we are working on identifying

And many many more that have been lost or have not been processed yet to know who they are or where they’re from.

We help with these cases a lot but it is never on this big of a scale or horses all in this bad of shape. We did not agree to do this without being able to provide a soft landing. These horses have been through hell and they deserve all of the best care they can possibly get to ensure they are safe and taken care of for the rest of their lives. We cannot do that without support from others.

Our training program is essentially shut down now due to taking all of these horses in. We will not be able to take in any more clients for the foreseeable future.

We have created an amazon wish list and linked it below for all of the horses.

If you would like to donate by purchasing items directly from our feed store it is the Tractor Supply Company
In Charlotte MI. Please put the order under pickup by Cady or Kody LaPoint and let us know that you placed an order!

If you would like to donate to the ongoing cost of care for these horses, we have linked our gofundme, paypal, and venmo.

We are not a registered non profit as we normally just help mustangs in this situation out of our own pocket without asking for help but we are people who love Mustangs, train mustangs, and advocate for them as best as we can! These horses didn’t choose to end up in this situation, but we are making the decision to do everything we can to help them.

Please like and follow our page LaPoint/L4 Ranch on Facebook for updates on all the horses and information on how you can help!

If you would like to be added to the waitlist to adopt any of these survivors once they’re ready please message me your information so we can reach out when they are ready to find them the best forever homes!

Any excess funds above the cost of caring for these horses will go to training them to be successful in their forever homes once they are ready.

Mustangs survive, it’s who they are, and if they’re still willing to try, we will continue to fight for them.

Thank you to everyone who is helping us navigate this tragedy and all those you continue to support the American Mustang. ❤️
