Hey all,
For those that are new to my account and don't know me, here's a little synopsis of who I am and what I stand for.....
I'm Marlo, I'm the owner, trainer and operator of Ohana Run Farm. In the past 25 years of horses I've learned to love and appreciate many disciplines such as hunters, barrels, poles, western and ranch pleasure, but my heart is in eventing and dressage.
I graduated from Grace Christian School in 2009 and was inducted as an honorary member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and went on to Ohio University to study Electronic Media (broadcasting, advertising, radio, multimedia, graphic design.... you know, typical nerd stuff.) During that time I worked round the clock as a barn manager for two different farms until stepping in as a union worker for the last decade, all while still working my horses and training to become a better horseman.
In 2013 I became a certified equine sports massage therapist being the only one in the class to achieve a perfect school and was invited that fall to attend the masterclass in Oklahoma with a select few. Later that year I became one of the first 30 in the world to become certified in equine kinesiology taping, kick starting my business of Spring Into Action Equine, offering various modalities of equine sports therapy. In 2021 after my personal horse sustained spinal cord injury, I took the leap on becoming a certified Magnawave PEMF practitioner for large and small animals as well as humans, purchasing my own PEMF machine for the business and added with that, a certification in Equine Craniosacral Therapy. In the spring of 2023 I attended my Equine Graston Technique Provider Certification at Otterbein University to add another level of tools to the box.
In late 2022 I began my focus on teaching and bringing up the next generation of young riders. In my years growing up and teaching for various farms, I knew the things I wanted to focus on, being safety first, fund second and skill third. I wanted these students to learn and understand how to communicate with their horses and WHY we do the things we do. I pride myself with training and started unbroke or rescues with trauma in a way that the horse is never forced, but always gives consent for anything we do, and I'll stand on that hill for the rest of my horse days.
The majority of our barn is made up of rescue horses or horses deemed hopeless from physical or emotional issues, when in reality, they just needed a direct line of communication, someone to hear them and a little TLC.
I feel an immense sense of pressure to live a life that sets an example as a role model for these young boys and girls coming up, and my Christian faith is reflected in many aspects of my barn and lesson program. While this is in fact run as a business, it's also a family that I'd certainly be lost without. We spend most holidays together, attend movies, family events and more.
So if you've considered us in the recent days, I sure hope this gives you a little more insight on what life is like behind these barn walls. We hope you'll join us one day!
Over and out,
Marlo
