Teaching Tali Off-Leash Recall:
The Role of Corrections in Training

Training Tali for off-leash recall ensures her safety and enjoyment outdoors. Start with basic obedience on a leash, gradually increasing distractions and distances.

Introducing corrections when necessary helps reinforce the command and address any missteps, ensuring Tali understands and responds appropriately. By balancing rewards and corrections, Tali can master off-leash recall, enjoying more freedom while staying safe.

Quick Update on Tali 🐶

The commands are SOLID! Tali is really putting the work in and is SO very eager to work! Here you can see both the place and heel command utilized and executed flawlessly!

Tucker is killing it with all of these distractions! His training with us is coming to an end, he's almost ready to go home, and were ready to continue training at group classes! 🐶

Something you will hear in this videos is Dalton correcting Britney and advising her to move to the next command. This is something you will see and hear at the time of go home. Our job at this point is to be sure you, as the handler, are confident and comfortable with the command so you can continue education at home and keep up with training! Training doesn't end when you leave the facility!

Look at Tucker go! We are finishing up the off leash portion of his training, and he’s doing fantastic! More of Tuckers off leash journey to come!

Is It Too Late to Train Your Dog? Better Late Than Never!

Many dog owners wonder if there's a point at which their furry friend is too old to learn new tricks or behaviors. Whether you've adopted an older dog or your busy schedule meant delaying training, you might be asking yourself, "Is it too late to train my dog?" The good news is, it’s never too late! Here’s why starting training at any age can be beneficial and rewarding.

Tips for Training Older Dogs:
1. Start Slow: Introduce commands gradually and ensure your dog is comfortable.
2. Be Patient: Older dogs might take a bit longer to learn new tricks. Consistency and patience are key.
3. Consider Health Needs: Make sure your dog’s physical condition is suited to the type of training. Consult your vet if needed.
4. Short, Frequent Sessions: Keep training sessions short to maintain your dog’s attention and prevent fatigue.

It’s never too late to start training your dog. Regardless of age, training provides mental stimulation, physical exercise, and an opportunity to strengthen the bond between you and your canine companion. So, if you’ve been hesitant, remember – better late than never. Embrace the journey of training and enjoy the positive changes it brings to your dog's life and yours!

Sean O'Shea says it best.
"If you correct the "look" you'll never get the "lock", and if you never get the "lock" you'll never get the "load" and "launch". "

These phases or stages are inevitable in reactivity. You don't get the launch without the other three. These aren't "no big deal" steps in the process of aggressive reactivity. The best thing you can do is make sure your dog is minding their own business, in every aspect.

Correcting early can and will mitigate the reactions you see as a reactive dog owner.

Happy 10th Birthday, Koba!

From the moment you came into my life, you brought endless joy, love, and inspiration. You were more than just a companion; you became my partner, my confidant, and the heart and soul behind Koba's Four Paws Institute. Every wag of your tail, every playful bark, and every gentle nudge has made my days brighter and my heart fuller.

We've shared countless adventures, from your first steps as a service dog to the many lives you've touched through your amazing example. Your unwavering loyalty and boundless love have been the cornerstone of our journey together, and I am endlessly grateful for every moment we've spent side by side.

As we celebrate this special milestone, know that you are cherished beyond words. Your spirit, courage, and gentle nature continue to inspire me every day. Here's to many more years of snuggles, playtime, and making beautiful memories together.

Happy Birthday, my sweet Koba. You are my hero, my muse, and my forever friend.

With all my love,
Britney

Humanizing your dog, or treating them as if they were human, can lead to several consequences that affect both the dog's behavior and overall well-being, as well as the human-dog relationship.

While it’s natural to love and cherish your dog, it’s important to remember that they have different needs and behaviors than humans. Providing them with proper training, socialization, nutrition, and boundaries will help them lead happier, healthier lives and foster a stronger, more fulfilling relationship between you and your dog.

All the time!

I'm asked all the time do you miss the dogs when they go home. Short answer, "yes"

As a dog trainer, I've come to realize that the relationship between trainer and dog is a special one. We dedicate ourselves to helping these animals become the best versions of themselves, and in doing so, we form an unbreakable bond. So, when it's time for the dogs to return home, it's only natural that we feel a pang of sadness. We miss them, but we take comfort in the knowledge that we've changed their lives for the better, and that we'll always carry a piece of them with us.
