My goodness it was a super HOT weekend 🥵
Since last Thursday to be exact, we have been suffering from the triple digit temperatures.

Of course we have A/C on for 24/7, so the piggies are safe and comfortable but what we are afraid of is the power outage when heatwaves attack like this. 😱

Los Angeles already had blackout last night and thousands of people had to spend hours without power, and oh my, I can easily imagine that could be a real nightmare for many people especially those who live with little children, seniors and pets.

Fortunately we didn’t lose power.
We prepared frozen water bottles just in case…. but didn’t have to use them.
We were even thinking of packing up all the animals in the car and drive around for a while if necessary…😅🐱🐱🐷🐷🐷🐷🦎🚗

It seems like the temperature is going down after today this week and I am just so glad our 4 legged babies are doing well.

**We are about 60 miles away from Line Fire 🔥 in San Bernardino so we are safe, just fyi.

Happy 6th anniversary, Zipper boy! 🎉

Yes, he came to us from Bunny Bunch Rabbit Rescue on the labor day weekend of 2018.
He was such a little baby 👶🏼😊

Lately he sure is showing his age a little such as he seems to sleep a lot but still has great appetite and is very active as a senior pig!

Our longest living piggy was 7 yrs old when he finally passed away during his sleep.
Zipper, can you beat that record? 😆

I would say, the average lifespan of piggies here at our house is probably 4 and a half or so.
We raise them exactly the same, feed them the same thing, etc but it seems like some are born strong/durable and some may be rather fragile and did not live too long.

The veterinarian at the exotic animal hospital told us that guinea pigs today do not live as long as they used to live. They used to live for 8 yrs or even more but today their lifespan is 4 yrs or so. There may be more accidental crossbreeding and such and that may effect? I am not sure.

At that time we were with one of our piggies who seemed to have a tumor (NOT this Zipper boy) and he was 4 yrs old.
When we told the veterinarian that he was 4, she actually said “Good job!😊👍”

I hope Zipper boy is going to live long.
I know he is already senior, and I always wish guinea pigs would live for like 10 yrs or more, but I know it’s not realistic.
All I want is that he feels happy every day with us while he is here.
