The 19th annual Jerry Milan Memorial Pars Fore Paws Golf Tournament at Eagle Landing Golf Club was a wonderful success. Under questionable skies and a warm spirit of camaraderie, golfers, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters came together to celebrate Jerry’s legacy and raise vital funds for the animals he cared so deeply about.

From the first tee-off to the final awards, the day was filled with energy, laughter, and heartfelt moments that reminded everyone why this event has become such a special annual tradition.

It's almost time to enjoy Lights On 14th to kick off the holiday season! The display uses thousands of custom-designed RGB LEDs that are individually programmed. It takes weeks of work to make the lights dance to music. Your donation supports the animal welfare programs at Clay Humane.

We are incredibly grateful for their hard work, their resilience, and their belief in a future where all animals are treated with respect and kindness.

We had a terrific time at Hickory Grove Early Learning Center, where the children learned about kindness towards all animals and that every animal should be treated with compassion, free from suffering and harm.

In October, Clay Humane visited the Junior Humane Society at W.E. Cherry Elementary School, headed by Rebekah Harp. We led a wonderful discussion about service dogs and the responsibilities that come with pet ownership. Darrow, a retired service dog, was on-site to join in the fun! Endless tail wags to Rebekah for her tireless efforts in humane education.

Two Employees Mark 30 Years of Service at Clay Humane
Dedication is rare. Three decades of it is remarkable! ⭐

This year, Clay Humane is honoring two of its longest-serving employees, Rebecca Whitley and Lori Coleman, as they celebrate 30 years of service.

Both joined Clay Humane in 1995, when the clinic operated on a far smaller scale. Since then, they’ve witnessed — and helped lead — the organization’s growth from a modest operation into a full-service community resource for veterinary care, animal welfare, and humane education.

“They’ve been here through it all — the late nights, the tough days, and the happy endings,” said Linda Welzant, executive director of the Clay County Humane Society. Their work has helped us save thousands of animals and has helped make countless families whole. Thirty years is an extraordinary commitment.”

Over the years, Lori became known for her contributions to Clay Humane’s Pet-Assisted Therapy Program and the organization's financial aspects, while Becky specialized in daily clinic operations, ensuring the feral cat program ran smoothly, and focused on outreach to the senior community. Beyond their individual roles, both are recognized for supporting the general mission of Clay Humane and keeping this mission at the heart of every decision.

To celebrate, the Humane Society hosted a small ceremony with staff, volunteers, and the families of our honorees, during which we acknowledged their incredible milestones. Personalized tributes were given as symbols of the many furry lives touched by their work. For Lori and Becky, the milestone is less about recognition and more about reflection on a job well done for three decades.

Clay Humane continues to serve the community with many invaluable services, spay/neuter programs, and education initiatives. However, this year, the spotlight shines on two individuals whose quiet persistence has shaped the organization’s past and future.
