My first generation of Silkie Eggers is turning out so unique and they are all so sweet. This is the third hatch I’ve had from the first generation. The variety I’ve gotten from the couple Silkie roosters I have is magical. I have a handful who don’t have the correct number of toes for what I’m wanting to do with this project so those will be available for new 🏡 soon. I would prefer the handful to go as a group, they’ll be perfect for someone wanting this precious blend of two wonderful breeds. Nice temperament, heavy Silkie genetics and possibly blue/ teal eggs ( that’s my whole goal for this project) They have been handled daily, they are used to people and cats. They are very sweet and social.

I’ve been working on a project, Silkie Eggers. I wanted heavy silkie qualities with pretty colored eggs. This batch was from my Cuckoo Silkie rooster and my Easter Egger hens, isn’t this baby precious 😍🥹❤️ they’re about ready to leave the bathroom brooder for our garage brooder. It’s been so fun to watch their little personalities and colors showing up.

Our babies from the garage brooder got moved to the baby coop outside, I’ll be deciding in the next week or so who will stay and who will be looking for a new address 🫶🏼 at this age I don’t have them separated by breed, here we have polish, turken, silkies and silkie eggers.

Did you know that quail actually make really great pets? These I’ve hand raised from an egg. I try to hatch a batch of quail a month but this last month laying was way down due to heat and molting. We have three colors and some of them are a Celadon mix and we get blue eggs! Speckled and blue! Quail lay almost daily, they are very sweet and social. They do better living in a natural type environment compared to a brooder type. They love to hide in tall grass just like they would in the wild. Many HOAs that forbid poultry allow quail because they are smaller and much quieter than chickens or other farm fowl. Quail are pretty much mature by 6-8 weeks and begin laying, they do well with other quail because they are social creatures. They also do well with other farm fowl. Although tiny their eggs are very nutritionally compatible to chicken eggs and can be enjoyed all the same ways. These babies are one month old and as you can see they have almost completely feathered out except for the few on their heads and will be mature soon. We do not eat ours but I know that a lot of people do. Mine are completely for enjoyment and the eggs are just a bonus. If you have been thinking of adding quail to your homestead you won’t be disappointed ❤️
