Learn about how and when World Wildlife Rescue was founded 🦁

WWR was founded in 2020 after decades of “in the making.” Our founder Rochelle James, is highly passionate about animal welfare and the persecution of animals across all aspects of our society.

She understands that access to medical treatment, care facilities and the need for housing for those who cannot be released into the wild is a key limitation for many animals living on our planet today. She is particularly passionate about animals in Africa and the rapidly declining wildlife populations there.

During the initial planning phase of WWR Rochelle became extremely emotional as her long held dream began to become reality. She holds a strong vision for the base wildlife hospital and the satellite clinics to contribute equally to the local communities as it will the animals that live there.

Meet our Wildlife Specialist, Godfrey Oyema!

“I have 10+ years experience in environment management, wildlife conservation and overall sustainability across different sectors. I have always been passionate about saving and helping our wildlife and finding creative and new ways we can work together to do this.

I look around me and see that we have voraciously wiped out some species from our mother planet due to our insatiable desires. And we continue living beyond what our planet earth can provide. It's time to change the game and build back better.”

Meet our Social Media Intern, Victoria!

“As a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in Public Relations and Communication, I believe in the positive impact that can come from great communication. It is my goal to solve issues and problems through strategic solutions by building campaigns, creating new opportunities for businesses, and communicating effectively with the community.

I believe that one of the most important issues in the world today is the decimation of wildlife throughout the world.

As a global issue that affects us all, my hope and goal working with organizations like World Wildlife Rescue is to help raise awareness, spread education, and create impactful change for these amazing animals.”

There has to be another way to save our wildlife than shooting threatened species to generate revenue for conservation...

50 years ago there were 220,000 lions. Today, there are only 20,000 lions left in the wild. That is an astounding 90% decline in just 50 years.

And while retaliation killing and poaching are key drivers to lion population decline, trophy hunting has also played its role.

Meet our Social Media Intern, Maria!

“Currently, I am a senior at Florida International University majoring in Public Relations, Advertising, and Applied Communications with a concentration in Political Science. I am also a proud sister of Alpha Xi Delta and serve as Communications Vice President. I have always been a creator whether it involved painting, dancing, singing, crafting, photographing, blogging, or video editing.

Nonetheless, I have always had a deep admiration and respect for wildlife as I would spend hours watching Animal Planet instead of Disney Channel growing up. In fact, every Christmas I would beg my parents for a baby elephant as a pet! Since then, I feel it is our responsibility to preserve the planet we live on which includes both ecosystems and animals.”

Animals - trafficked much like people, drugs, and guns - are taken directly from the wild, from their families, and smuggled all over the world. Many do not make the journey and die alone in frightening conditions.

Meet our Founder, Rochelle James!

“As a very young child I would collect spiders and bugs and keep them in my room.. my mother wasn't too happy with this! by the age of 12 I was writing to various organizations campaigning against the abuse of animals in the meat industry, circuses and cosmetics research.

I volunteered for many years at my local animal shelter. Following school I pursued university studies in science (zoology and conservation biology). However at heart my passion is more aligned with animal welfare as you can see from WWR.

I have been dreaming and searching from the right 'job' for years before realizing that it wasn't out there (so to speak) and that I had everything I needed within me to create it. It has been a long and somewhat arduous journey to get here with many stumbles and falls along the way.

However, with every fall came learning and expansion and growth that gave rise to the right experiences for me to build what we are currently building. Interestingly while I was studying my bachelor degree, I fell into a social work type role with refugees.

It was there I realized that my passion for helping the welfare of others also extended to human animals, not just non-human animals. I spent more than a decade also working in humanitarian roles with refugees.

It's here that I realized that the balanced combination of conservation with humanitarian wisdom and experience is what is necessary for us a a united global peoples to achieve our 'conservation' objectives.

They are intrinsically linked, one is not separate from the other. WWR with our sister entities will bridge not only conservation and humanitarian work, but also commercial business and charity each supporting the other.

This is a new paradigm for the way we do what we call conservation.”
