There are 2 dogs on this week's Last Chance (euthanasia) List at Orange County Animal Services, Orlando, Florida.๏ปฟ They are Rescue Only and need fosters and rescue commitment by 6 am Wednesday morning 9/11/24 or they will be euthanized. Please help SHARE them. (There was a 3rd, but he already received a rescue commitment and is now offline, meaning he was probably picked up by his rescue - Droolius Ceasar ).

โ–ถ๏ธ Sky was surrendered to the shelter in April when her owner was moving and couldn't afford her medical care. In July, she entered a shelter foster home for about 4 weeks. Her foster parent said this about her: "Sky is a very sweet girl who loves attention! She needs vet attention for her eyes and skin allergies. She loves to chew so have ropes and or bones ready. She gets excited to see other dogs and gets along well with other dogs of her size but smaller dogs will get scared of her. She would benefit from more room to roam around and vet care for her eye and skin allergies.โ€

She was subsequently adopted by a family with another large dog and a child, and she is said to have displayed resource guarding behaviors in their home. She did have an incident of snapping at the adopter over her water bowl. She also got into an altercation with the other dog in the home over treats. The shelter says she is hyper fixated on food and has become more protective of her food dish. Itโ€™s believed she was overwhelmed in the adoptive home and needs a calmer home (without a lot of traffic or kids) in the future.

She did spend months at the shelter, easily paired with other dogs, and participating in play groups. She has suffered from skin issues due to allergies and an eye condition. *** A generous donor is offering a $3,500 donation to any rescue group that can take Sky along with covering an initial vet assessment at Blue Pearl.

Sky is 6 years old, 63 lbs, spayed and heartworm negative.

Shelter link -> http://ocnetpets.com/Adopt/AnimalsinShelter.aspx?animalid=A439699 .

โ–ถ๏ธ Bambino entered the shelter as a stray 7 weeks ago. He is affectionate with people, seeking attention, is submissive, and shows no aggression.

Bambino was initially paired with another dog when he was first at the shelter. We arenโ€™t sure what happened since then, but Bambino has not been able to be paired with other dogs since then - due to overstimulation and intrusive behavior. He would approach dogs enthusiastically but because he struggles with reading other dogs he doesn't take correction well. This can escalate. He reacts to every dog barking at him as he walks through the kennels and in adjacent play yards, but only sniffs when the other dogs donโ€™t react to him.

Bambino is 2 years old, and weighs 43 lbs.
He is neutered and tested negative for heartworm disease.

Update: in a sad turn of events this morning, Skylar was unable to be picked up from the VEC. She was too sick, too hypoxic, and showed further decline with attempts to take her out of the oxygen tent. The decision was then made to let her go. Thank you so much for trying to help this poor girl Polk County Bully Project. Rest peacefully sweet Skylar ๐ŸŒˆ.

Update 9/8: Skylar has a rescue hold.

๐Ÿ†˜URGENT MEDICAL - DEADLINE 5pm tomorrow Saturday 9/7 โ€ผ๏ธ

*SKYLAR - This dog is an unaltered female. This dog is currently located in WD77. This dog weighs approximately 35.2 lbs.,is 6Y and has tested negative for heartworm disease. This dog is being posted to rescue due to medical.

Meet Skylar! This friendly girl collapsed in one of our play yards today and when brought to the clinic, was cyanotic. Her temperature was 103 degrees and was struggling to breathe. She is currently at our clinic getting oxygen, but the plan is to send her to VEC tonight hoping they will be able to stabilize her. We are looking for a rescue partner who will be able to help her and pick up from the VEC.

A little about her-She came to the shelter on the 1st of September after someone finding her running loose near John Young and Americana Blvd., but she had no signs of ownership. Friendly! HW-

She has a pending lab result to determine if she was spayed as she has a scar on her abdomen.

Please let us know if you can help!

๐ŸšจThere are 2 dogs on this weeks LCA (euthanasia list) at Orange County Animal Services in Orlando, FL. They are both Rescue Only and need fosters and a rescue commitment by 6am Wednesday morning 9/4/24 or they will be euthanized. Please help share them.

MAGNOLIA was a stray that was shy on arrival, although she was cooperative and easily paired with other dogs approximately 6 weeks ago. She has subsequently become less tolerant to being paired and began showing โ€œbarrier reactivityโ€ towards select dogs. The shelter says sheโ€™s deteriorating the longer she stays at there.

With people, Magnolia is very social and an โ€œaffection driven dogโ€. Volunteers love her and donโ€™t want to see her story end here. Volunteers Say: MAGNOLIA has some qualities that are above average 1) She loves the kiddie pool, and she will even sit on command, IN the pool! 2) She takes treats daintily, and has a good catch accuracy, when the treat is tossed. 3) Easy to bathe, including her paws and ears. She loves to be touched. 4) Magnolia has an extremely short coat. For busy people who do not want to sweep and vacuum,(fur) every day.

Magnolia is 7 years old, 46 lbs, heartworm negative and spayed.

http://www.ocnetpets.com/Adopt/AnimalsinShelter.aspx?animalid=A551882

CECILIA also entered the shelter as a stray approximately 4 weeks ago. She was very stressed out during impound, growling and attempting to snap. She was especially head shy. She avoided other dogs and was fearful of them. She has been timid towards staff, more recently warming up and being more friendly towards her handlers. They attempted to pair her in a play yard with another dog and she did not know how to respond to the other dog. She would play bow and run from the other dog and then correct the other dog, when the other dog chased and nipped her (with rambunctious play). She then hid under the pavilion from the other dog and seemed to guard the area she was laying in. Then the staff tried to pair her in the kennel with another dog and it didnโ€™t go well, itโ€™s noted she was guarding the water dish.

Cecilia is 2 years old, 42 lbs, heartworm negative and intact (will be spayed prior to leaving the shelter).

Update 8/28: Bubba has a rescue hold.

There is 1 dog on the last chance euthanasia list for this week at Orange County Animal Services (Orlando, FL). He is only available to rescue partners and must receive a rescue commitment by 6 am Wednesday 8/28/24 or he will be euthanized. He needs a foster and a rescue. Please share. Please pledge for his rescue.

BUBBA has been at the shelter since he was found tied to a pole on 8/13/24. This has been someoneโ€™s pet all these years and he is not responding well to his current life circumstances at the shelter. He has also been recovering from a URI and is on medication for that.

He has shown barrier reactivity in his kennel, the way staff has calmed him down is to show him the leash and treats. He is ok being leashed up to go outside, but not as much with being put back in the kennel and unleashed. According to his notes, he has tried to โ€œbite at the leash and handlerโ€ and take the leash away, but he will let it go in exchange for some treats. The shelter does note that he is showing improvement in the time he has been there, allowing staff to take him out to the play yard and interact with him (even staff he previously had a negative reaction to). Per a rescue partner volunteer who met Bubba recently:

โ€œHe is a typical English Bulldog. He needs training, but his behavior is definitely fear based, and getting better the longer he is there. He does have some barrier reactivity but was easily redirected. He seeks social. He was very loving to the officer that took him outโ€.

Bubba is estimated to be 6 years old, 68 lbs, still needs to be neutered and heartworm tested). His shelter link:

๐Ÿฅณ Update: Draco and Shelby have left the shelter and are safe with Furever Bully Love Rescue! Thank you so much to everyone who shared their hearts out for these 2, pledged for them and to their rescue and Dracoโ€™s foster! Update 8/21 - Draco and Shelby have rescue holds tonight.

LAST CHANCE (EUTHANASIA) LIST - There are another 2 dogs on this week's List. They must receive a rescue hold by 6 am on Wednesday, August 21st .... if not they will be euthanized.

They need fosters, rescues and pledges. Please help SHARE their stories and get them seen.

Meet Draco . He has been failed multiple times but still presents a great big smile everyday. He was confiscated for cruelty reasons back in 2021. He was already heartworm positive, yet was adopted and returned a couple of times with the adopters stating they were unable to follow through on his heartworm treatment. His 3rd adoption stuck but sadly Draco arrived back as a stray 11 weeks ago, his heartworm still untreated. He was adopted a 4th time in late June, was kept outside day & night and was returned when the landlord said he couldn't stay.

Desite human failures Draco is very friendly and a volunteer favorite. He is easily leashed, "walks nicely", seeks social and allows full handling.

He was paired with another neutered male for about a month. Both dogs appeared to respect each other's space. Following his return attempts to pair him with 2 intact males were unsuccessful but he paired successfully with an intact female for about 4 weeks. He has not been paired since that dog became unavailable and the shelter is concerned that he is showing signs of stress.

Draco is 7 years old, weighs 47 lbs and is neutered. His heartworm treatment is sponsored.

Shelter link - http://ocnetpets.com/Adopt/AnimalsinShelter.aspx?animalid=A402872

Meet Shelby . She was briefly at the shelter as a stray in 2023 but was adopted. Sadly this "gorgeous girl" arrived back late July through no fault of her own. Her owners were separating and Shelby was left behind tethered to the apartment railing. When contacted neither of the couple had any interest in reclaiming Shelby.

She was fearful when she arrived to the shelter. Staff noted she seems to prefer women and still seems wary of and defensive towards men. She is treat motivated. She has been paired with other dogs while at the shelter, though she appears undersocialized with other dogs and โ€œunsure of how to respond to playful communicationโ€.

Shelby is only a 1 year old, 63 lbs, spayed and heartworm negative.

Update : Hazel has a rescue hold.

DEADLINE 5 PM TODAY. STILL NEEDS RESCUE AND PLEDGES โ€ผ๏ธ

Update: ***A STAFF MEMBER IS WILLING TO FOSTER ON BEHALF OF A RESCUE IF ONE CAN HELP***

๐Ÿ†˜ MONDAY 8/19 DEADLINE- REQUIRES LEG AMPUTATION AFTER SUSPECTED HIT BY CAR โ€ผ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธ

HAZEL - This dog is a spayed female. This dog is currently located in CLINIC. This dog weighs approximately 46.0 lbs.,is 3Y and has tested negative for heartworm disease. This dog is being posted to rescue due to medical.

Meet Hazel!

***NEEDS RESCUE PLACEMENT BY MONDAY, AUGUST 19TH!

REQUIRES AMPUTATION

*Very Unfortunate Incident*

After being at OCAS for so long, Hazel was adopted from our shelter last Thursday, and on the way to her new home, she jumped out of the window while the adopter was pumping gas into her vehicle and ran away. She was found, but we suspect that she was Hit By a Car. Her F right leg is fractured (radius and ulna) and will need an amputation. New adopter surrendered Hazel back to us because she cannot afford medical care.

Hazel was originally surrendered to OCAS after an Enforcement Officer spotted her being chained during restricted hours. When confronting the owners, they stated that the dog does not do well with strangers, and they had a newborn in the house and weren't sure of her reaction towards the baby. They stated that out of precaution, they placed her outside and had plans to build a shelter for her but opted to surrender.

Hazel is fearful of new people, does not seek social right away, but enjoys being in the play yard and stays close to her handler. She has been paired with other dogs.

Please let us know if you can help Hazel

UPDATE - EXTENDED 24 hrs : New deadline for Rescue Hold 6 am Thursday, 8/15 โ—๏ธ

๐ŸšจLAST CHANCE (EUTHANASIA) LIST - They must receive a rescue commitment by 6 am Wednesday 8/14/24.

There are 3 dogs on this week's last chance list. Please SHARE their stories and help get them seen.

REMI arrived at the shelter 88 days ago as part of a confiscation case. He and 3 other dogs were living in deplorable conditions, with Remi appearing to have suffered the most. He was emaciated at 37.6 lbs, housed in a filthy crate without access to food and water, had sores on his hind end and hair loss throughout his entire body.

Time has healed Remis' body - he is now a healthier 58 lbs. "He looks, and feels, so much better". He is a happy dog, seeks social from his handlers and takes treats gently.

Remi has "shown to be selective with other dogs, meaning some he likes and others he does not, he seems to prefer his space", something he did not have in his previous home. He was paired with Runt (intact males) back in May but pairings with other dogs have not lasted (no attempts noted since he was neutered on 7/21 due to prior experience). In the play yard Remi shows no aggression towards other dogs - he loses interest and walks away preferring not to interact.

Remi is a resilient dog who deserves a happy ending. He will "thrive in a home where he can be the center of attention, making him an ideal companion for anyone seeking a pet." "Given his background, (he) will need a kind and patient caretaker who can provide for him the stability he's never had."

Remi is 3 years old, neutered and heartworm positive (treatment is sponsored, please ask the shelter for details).

At just 10 months old, RUNT and his siblings' world was turned upside down by the sudden passing of their owner in early May. Their comfortable home and loving owner were gone and they spent the next couple of weeks running loose in Apopka. A minor bite is noted from this time but we have no further Information on it.

At the shelter Runt was uncertain and very fearful in his kennel but allowed full handling in the yard and shared his kennel with Remi (intact males) until he was adopted. He was returned after 3 days with the adopter stating that he had charged a neighborhood dog walking by. He was adopted a second time but returned again as the adopter felt he was becoming protective of them around other family members.

This is not the behavior that the shelter has been witnessing daily. Runt is loving with people, takes time to warm up to other dogs in playgroup and may be selective with other dogs in his kennel, but has been paired easily with a spayed female and neutered male in the last month. He knows commands: sit, heel, lay down, roll over, fetch. He needs a committed home with an experienced handler who will guide him and help him to grow into a confident well socialized adult.

Runt is 1 year old, neutered, 54 lbs and heartworm negative.

TIGER came to the shelter as a stray on July 1st. The finder (in Fl 34714) stated that they initially considered holding him but that he did not get along with their dog and cat.

He is friendly, easy to leash and pulls in his eagerness to get outside (he appears to be potty trained). He doesn't seek social interaction preferring to sniff but responds when encouraged.

Tiger is still intact and has not been successfully paired. He is noted to have been very intrusive with another intact male dog and in the yard he was "intense" when a female dog was brought out. He is drawn to other dogs who are charging their kennel doors "but no aggression observed" and "appears excited / aroused vs. aggressive" towards small dogs running and walking past the fence line. For these reasons the shelter recommends that Tiger be the only pet in his future home(s).

Tiger is just 19 months old, 64 lbs, heartworm negative, and will be neutered before leaving the shelter.
