I should have been more clear with this post earlier - I would love for you to share your rescue stories with us in the comments! Posting again 🙂

For many years, I've been deeply involved in animal rescue. The stories that touch the heart, the ones that show the resilience and love of these animals, are the ones that I cherish the most.

I want to share one of my own rescue stories about my dog Jack. About 10 years ago, Jack was a stray hanging out with another dog that got hit by a car. Jack dragged his friend from the middle of the street to the sidewalk and lay down next to him. Unfortunately, his friend didn't make it.

Jack was taken to PACC and his story was posted on Facebook. PACC named him 'Hero.' When I saw the story, I was filled with joy and just knew he had to be part of our family. I rushed to PACC and, thankfully, was able to adopt him.

Because he was/is a "hero," I named him Jack Bauer after the lead character on the TV show "24". He is a wonderful dog and continues to be our "hero" every day!

We love birds, and they, too, are sensitive to changes in environmental temperature. To keep your bird hydrated, keep fresh water available at all times. You can also "mist" your bird during warm weather to help keep it cool.

One thing to avoid is placing your bird in the direct path of a portable fan/blower. This will produce a stressful situation for the bird, as it cannot escape the constant airflow.

As with my last post, let's talk about the weather! It is hot here in Arizona and it may be tempting to run into a store or the post office and leave your pet in the car --which is quite alright if you leave the car running with the air on. Otherwise, at 70 degrees F outside, the interior of your vehicle is about 110 degrees F -- way TOO hot! And with temps in the 100's in sunny Tucson, you can imagine how hot it would be inside your car.

It's getting hot outside! Did you know that when the air temperature is 85 degrees F, the asphalt is around 135 degrees F?? Before heading outside with your dog, test outside surfaces (asphalt, concrete, dirt, artificial grass, etc.) with your hand or foot for 10 secs. If it is too hot for you, it is too hot for your pup's paws!
