GARFIELD UPDATE & NOW WH**EY Update

When it RAINS it POURS….

Garfield is doing Fairly Well Overall. It was 35 Hours before he peed. He is NOT really drinking water and we have ONLY gotten in him about 2 ounces total (as of 6pm today (50 Hours Later from Surgery)) of Gravy or Liquids from Moist Foods. This is hard to watch, BUT, understandable when you have EVERY Tooth or what was left of a tooth extracted.

SO we currently have Garfield Isolated with his Best Friend SNEAKERS who has really taken to CARING for Garfield!! Garfield Emergency Care & Same Day Surgery was $1564.41. We are Hoping Garfield will start to eat a little more tomorrow and he will receive another pain medication as well. He should recover overall well and today he even mustered TWO Kisses as I was holding him from time to time today.

SADLY, On Monday Night, another cat, WH**EY, stopped eating and being her normal self. We weren’t able to get her in until today and NOW she is scheduled for SURGERY on March 6th, 7:30am. Wh**ey just about 4 years ago had dental surgery to have a couple of teeth removed and a ultrasonic teeth cleaning. Sadly, she now has three areas that they THINK without x-rays (which will be done at surgery) she will have 3-4 teeth extracted, possibly more. Her Fees Today were $250 ad we are looking most likely another $1000 next week.

We will keep you updated NEXT WEEKEND on both of these kitties. If anyone would like to help us with these expenses, please use the venues below. If you need a 501c3 Tax Receipt for your donation, please let us know. Thank You So Much for Your Generosity to our organization. For those who have been Supporting STRONG through his ongoing health issue, we will be updating STRONG’s Status (encouraging) next week.

Prayers for Garfield.... Starting Saturday, he was just NOT his Normal Self and stopped eating. This is a CLASSIC example of "Suffering in Silence and not Showing It" On Sunday, even though 35 degrees outside, he insisted on staying out in the habitat for a few hours, now we know WHY.... The Cold must of been helping him. He never ate anything Sunday. Today we did an ER Drop off (7:30am) only to learn he has a massive infection in his mouth and several teeth that need to come out, so he is currently in Emergency Surgery.

Garfield was one of our TRUE Feral Cats initially, years ago. After over TEN MONTHS before being able to capture him he finally became part of our family!! I can even HOLD HIM like a BABY while LOVING on him....HOWEVER, I will get torn up trying to trim nails or any type of inspections and NO CARRIERS. Today, he drew blood on me getting him into the carrier and Garfield DID NOT treat the vet staff well. So while he is OUT (for surgery) his nails will be trimmed and he will be on the road to NO PAIN in his mouth and the infection treated. Overall, under normal living conditions, he is a Very Sweet, Lovable Cat that has a Briggs and Stratton 3.5HP PURR Engine!!

Sure, everybody was begging to go outside. 3 minutes later everybody was begging to come back inside!! When it's 13° outside with a wind chill of probably 5 and snow in the habitat, I wonder why?

Here is a PEAK into what our Catify Family gets to experience. (CLICK ON THE LINK at the End) Our cats have (except for the late night/early morning) free run of our home. This is one room they all love, our SUNROOM (you are able to see PART of this room). In the FAR LEFT of the Live video stream is a window that goes out to our 18' Long by 5 1/2' Wide by 8' Tall outdoor Catitat. Our cats have an 14" tall entry/exit through a blocked off, insulated window, to help keep heat/cooling in. NINE cats sleep in this room at night time otherwise my wife & I would have NO ROOM on our bed !!

This video feed is temporary until we get our newer streaming cams up and running, we will also have one to access IN Our Catitat by late spring. Typically you can view this room from 9am until 9pm EST.

December 22nd, 2024 thru January 14th, 2025 was an extremely sad time for us in losing three of our Catify Family Members so close together. Since we began in 2019 we have lost 10, all due to various health issues. While we currently have 26, it still amazes us on just HOW UNIQUE each cat is with their personalities, temperaments, likes/dislikes, energy levels and so much more. While at times there may be some similarities to others, I can truly say they are all so vastly different from each other!!

As for these that we lost.... They will Never be Forgotten!! They have touched our lives in their own unique way!! Their memories will live on!!

This IS NOT HOW we wanted to start the New Year!! Today, we lost WOOLLEY. Woolley last June had a Urinary Blockage and had to be catheterized twice over a two week plus period. He weighed 15.5 lbs at that time. Today he weighed in right at 9 lbs. Age: 15 1/2+ Years old. Starting Saturday he ate very little compared to what he would normally eat over these last several months. Sunday, Monday and Today, he stopped eating ANYTHING, just a few licks of gravy/juices, but did drink water.

Woolley was a TRIO of cats we took as their original human they adopted passed away after 13 years (from a kitten). That was 2 1/2 years ago. Sophie was the Mother and Mouse was the sister to Woolley. The TWO girls took to me right away within several days. Woolley, was a HUGE Griever over losing his original human and then the sudden change of a new home & new humans. He accepted me from a distance and if I got too close I would get SWATTED (less and less over time). This went on until June of last year even though I would bribe him with tons of treats, chicken and more.

In June of 2024 with his urinary blockage, a hospital stay and then a relapse where we kept him home (catheterized) and gave him IV fluids twice a day... Woolley finally gave in and accepted me as his human. I could even give him kisses without getting swatted!! This was a major milestone for us. Our bond from that point forward was awesome. I held Woolley today in my arms as he crossed over to meet his mother, sister and his PAL Jethro (whom we just lost on 12/31/24 see two posts back). My heart is broken once again, but I am glad to know he is no longer sick and running free!!

Sorry for the Delay on our next Update. Our CATS will Always take Priority!! We will update you soon as to our report for last year AND the five new cats we have taken over the last few weeks.

Strong Donor Update: First Off, THANK YOU All who donated for Strong's Surgery for his Tail Amputation, wee DID raise all funds to cover that cost!! In our November 10th, 2024 Post we stated that my Wife became certified to be able to Adjust (Chiropractic) dogs, cats & horses. Well.....

One of my wife's professors/instructors (Texas) who is ALSO a Veterinarian for 40+ years, that she trained under, suggested after hearing our case for Strong and what he all went through, a whole food nutritional protocol (3 products) that is geared to help with Strong's Nerves with the possible goal that he will regain feeling in his tail and that the PAIN SURGES will subside.

Since December 21st, when we started Strong on this, we are already seeing movement at the very END of his tail which is a first vs moving the entire tail (SEE VIDEO). We are hopeful this will work and save his tail amputated since there IS A CHANCE Strong will experience "Phantom Pain" (after surgery), which is the "wild card" we are concerned about. Otherwise, if this does not work, Amputation will take place in April, 2025.

So currently, while we wait during this process, Strong is OUT of his cage from 6:30ish am until 10:30pm every day with his tail wrapped in Popsicle Sticks to prevent biting/damage. At night, we place a cone on his and unwrap his tail to let it breathe overnight. THANKS again for your support for that who gave financially as YOU are the reason we are able to help the cats that we do !! Thanks Again.

SOMETIMES life deals some very difficult blows... as it is for us these last 10 days. Not only did we lose Abby a week ago Sunday totally unexpectedly (see 2 posts back) Tomorrow at 11 AM we will be saying goodbye to another, Jethro (approximately 16) 😿😥.

Back in late August of this year, Jethro had dental surgery done. Blood labs were done just prior to surgery. You will see in the one picture, 1 of 2 pages of blood labs that we did today. The totals on the far right is what they were back at the end of August. Sadly, since the surgery, he is currently very anemic, major kidney issues, Extreme high levels of potassium, And red blood cell count virtually not there.

Jethro, like a lot of cats, hide their illnesses very well until they just can't do it anymore as in this case. Over this past weekend he virtually stopped eating and has been drinking a lot of water. Jethro is at the point that would require hospitalization, a blood transfusion, and other urgent care. But in the long run it's only gonna help him for a very, very short time.

So the vets have done what they could to stabilize him for one more night so we get a chance to say goodbye and we will be losing him tomorrow at 11 AM. Jethro has been part of our team since November of 2010, and has been the social butterfly and ambassador to all of the cats that we have brought in over the years. Jethro gets along with all the cats and has a unique way of accepting them and making them feel welcome.

The hardest part will be not having him sleep with us at night time, Cuddle in my wife's arms, Rubbing his chin on my chin and loving us unconditionally. The picture with my wife and the 2 cats are Jethro and Abby who we just lost last Sunday and they were both of her lap kitties. The 2 pictures of Jethro on a blanket with my arm around him is today as I write this post. We will miss you Jethro... SO MUCH!!

DON'T KNOW WHO NEEDS TO HEAR THIS..... but Don't Ever Take LIFE for Granted and CHERISH ALL MOMENTS you have with them... Meaning for Both People and Pet Companions, which ARE Family Members Too !!

TOTALLY UNEXPECTEDLY at 1:45pm TODAY, our Cat ABBY had a Catastrophic Seizure that caused loss of control of her back legs/hip, We were on our way at 1:58pm to the Animal Hospital in Wooster when she passed away in my wife's arms at 2:10pm. Just 30 minutes prior to the seizure, she was enjoying the day, eating a CHURU Treat and was trying to steal Jethro's Food once he was done eating.

We woke up today NEVER Expecting this tragedy to happen!! Abby was around 13-14 Years Old. Abby Adopted us late Fall of 2014. My wife just got to work, opened the back door to the practice and in WALTZES Abby, walking in and out of the patients rooms, then winding up in the business office, got up on the counter and laid on a Laptop Keyboard for warmth. Starving, having two different types of worms and other minor health issues, she found her new humans. It's IRONIC... that day too we woke up and NEVER Realized we were about to add another cat to our family or just how much she would become part of OUR FAMILY !!

ABBY will be greatly MISSED, all the lap times, laser light chasing, playing fetch, Treat Times and good ole classic laughs from her daily routines !! RIP ABBY.

Be sure to hug and love on your pet companions TODAY !! As you Never know when they will not be around anymore !!
