New Monday class groups made up of some of my most independent students got to kick off our winter session with the first lessons of 2025! We played a Valentines themed version of the flag race, reinforcing balance with leaning and reaching while communicating accurate directions to their horse.

On Saturday, February 15 we held our 3rd annual Celebration Banquet and awards ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of 2024. Thank you to all the volunteers, students and their families who attended and made all the planning and preparation worth it! Huge shout outs to volunteers Michelle Klintworth and Sue Maxymiv who helped make the decor of our space and tables match beautifully with the multi-colored tie-dye theme, and to the Klintworth and Medure families who stayed late after the banquet to help the Steiner family with clean-up! Cheers to another amazing year TOGETHER!

In November I started a new Horse Care group to get a few last kids off the waiting list before the end of 2024. In their first class in the program, all new students learn our safety rules, the grooming tools and how to use them, and to walk and stop their horse on lead.

Snowball, the Stirrup Courage mascot cat, has discovered that the warmest place to be during the coldest weeks of winter is on the back of a horse! 🤠🐱😆 Some horses tolerate giving cat rides better than others…in the pic riding Misty, she started walking right after I took the photo; he tried to grip to hang on, Misty freaked out about what was on her back and jumped forward, and Snowball took a big tumble off her back end into the snow! However, the picture sleeping on Boomerang’s blanket (my old retired guy who came over to wait out the negative temps in the heated indoor) was taken later that same evening after his first fall off of Misty, so he has officially earned his “Getting right back on a horse after you’ve fallen off” trophy! 🏆

For her last ride of 2024, Maddy got to help test out new horse donation “Dolly” during her trial period. Dolly handled allowing Maddy to get through all the steps of our banner-building exercise very well, and giving one of my more experienced young riders a chance to be one of the first to test out a new horse makes her feel empowered and important 👏

The second week of November started our final week of riding classes before winter break. It was such a pleasure to have these two similar-age young teen girls learning and riding together this fall, and I can’t wait to see their progress continue when we come back in February!
