On today's episode of "Fran adds entirely unnecessary elements to this week's jump school exercise with her personal horses"...
I think this is the first time I’ve ever jumped Finn bareback in a halter.
I used to jump bareback, and bridleless, even, all the time. It was practically a prerequisite to being on the demonstration teams at Parelli tour stops in my alternate life many moons ago. It’s not a skillset I’ve especially kept in place with this current round of sport horses, and given my not-early-20s-anymore body also. This was a fun reminder that Finn could grow to enjoy learning that, I think.
Who jumped it best: Black Mares Edition!
For this week’s jump school grid, we employed both slowing elements and going elements. The bounces inhibit momentum a bit, and the 2-strides to an oxer after lengthen the stride.
This tests a forward horse’s adjustability downward, and a kick-ride’s responsiveness to the leg.
Both Sydney (first) and Tempi (second) took this exercise for a cruise yesterday. Who do YOU think jumped it better?

We’re back with the 2024/25 Episodes of “Fran Rides This Week’s Jump School Exercise on Tempi at Absurd heights”.
This week’s group had a lot of variability in experience between both riders and horses, and one of the best ways I know to help a mixed group is to challenge the rideability with low fences.
The trot poles and transitions before and after challenged horses and riders to be proactive in their planning. The long, single-fence approaches and “thread the needle” spaces challenged riders to choose and trust a base pace, as well as stay straight and focused on the back side of the fences, and the transition in the long, straight line between the two fences strengthened the half-half and taught the horses to check in rather than rushing.
All riders did a phenomenal job!
And, here is Tempi showing how rideable a spicy show jumper actually can be 😅
Thanks, all, for coming, and we’ll see you for the next one!
Jump schoolers—thanks for joining us this past weekend! That was awfully fun!
I have several verbal commitments for next weekend, but no school horse reservations in place. Please get me your RSVPs by Thursday evening, so I can post groups by Friday!
Also, I have 3 verbal commitments, but no formal sign ups in hand for a the Learn to Jump series! If you’re intending to join us for that, the series must be paid for in full prior to November 8th in order to consider the spot held. Cash, Venmo and checks accepted, Venmo is strongly preferred.
Thanks everyone for your enthusiasm—it feels so fun to feel this community of jumpers rebuilding!
Johnny Goes Cross Country Schooling!
Surprise! He’s perfect in the field, too! Johnny didn’t miss a beat XC schooling today!

UTD on all cares.
Johnny has evented through novice as well as done straight dressage through second level. He is pleasant to handle in the barn, absolutely chill under tack and in day to day affairs, and lives in a mixed herd of mares and geldings without creating drama.
He is sound and comfortable with minimal maintenance so don’t let his age spook you!
This guy is going to make an excellent step-up horse for a kid off a pony, or for an adult amateur in a program.
Low 5 figures beginning with a 12. And proving to be worth Every. Single. Penny.
More videos available upon request.
Johnny Jumps!
Who is looking for a seriously good citizen?
Johnny (JC: Lawyer Jon) showed us his jumping acumen this week. In an effort to gain a feel for his willingness and adaptability, I put a student on him instead of filming myself in the tack. Shyann has riding her whole life, but is a season or so into her jumping lessons. Johnny, with a smile on his face, rose to the occasion, didn’t bat an eye at the new fences, and absolutely would have kept going.
We’ll try out the XC this coming week, but I have a pretty good feeling. This is the horse trainers of kids and adult amateurs are BEGGING you to buy.
12,🥕🥕🥕 slightly negotiable for quick sale this fall.
Why we had baling twine and no halter is a whole different discussion to be had with the facility upkeep manager, and a certain problem child of a gate (iykyk, LilliCrest Style) … 🙄🤦♀️🤪
“Easy to handle” ✅🤣

Seeking confident, ambitious, experienced amateur, or pro on a budget. Powerful, smart and sensitive mare, tons of grit and truly a girl’s girl, but not for those who value and demand a more passive ride. Has evented, show jumped, and done straight dressage, loves to jump but no disdain for flatwork either.
25🥕🥕🥕, priority given to the best match possible and will increase with show season.
