I lost my foster to Pancreatic Cancer. It came on suddenly and painfully. I didn’t know.
I went to a kennel and lived there for months and they all loved me.
A foster stepped up to care for me and we even found an adopter. We were all so hopeful. She ghosted me not once but twice.
It’s my time, I need more. I can’t sit in a room alone and waiting. Please help me get to board and train with the plan to get me adopted ASAP!

Any amount will help. If you have been following my story you will know that the shelter in Alabama that said I was dog friendly said send her back and we will kill her. We just couldn’t do that.

If you can help we believe in Mama and she deserves a happy ending. We can get her there together.

Update on JJ!

JJ is doing great! He has potential adopters. One has been coming for training classes with JJ. We will update you as soon as we get the news. He’s playing with dogs large and small in supervised only play after a ton of specialized training.

Thank you Carol and everyone who believe in JJ and believe in what we do!

Huge thank you to Jennara and Jerry at Specter K-9

URGENT PLEASE SHARE

If you take your car and give it to a car wash attendant do they have a right to keep possession?
If you take your jewelry and give it to a jeweler to fix or clean, do they have a right to keep possession?
If you take your child or pet to a caretaker and they temporarily care for them, do they have a right to keep possession?

Where is the JUSTICE for Lily, her offspring, our rescue and the rights of all rescues?

While criminals rights are protected, victims rights are violated.

Maybe no one cares. Maybe no one agrees. Maybe no one understands. It is still WRONG.

Someone made a dumb comment here the other day something like well I’m sure they are taken care of and that’s what’s most important. So if I take your Mercedes and drive it around without your agreement as long as I don’t have an accident that’s ok?

We can do better as a society and allowing people who are comfortable violating contracts and doing what the F they want with our dogs is SICK, that’s not mentally stable behavior to steal 9 dogs that you know do not belong to you.

I remember being really young and finding a set of tiny books of proverbs. The illustrations were beautiful but the words were so powerful. I would read them over and over and over again. I took good care of those tiny books and treasured the lessons that enabled my growth as a human.

Not long after I began to volunteer at animal shelters. I began by simply dropping off donations. I remember seeing dogs tied to the fence of an overrun, tiny shelter, understanding that my dogs at home, from breeders knew nothing about this world of rescue. It intrigued me, it depressed me but it made me want to be better and do better.

When my Boxer Duchess was diagnosed with lymphoma I told my parents no more breeder dogs. My sister and I went to our local shelter and took home an adult in need. I knew I needed to do more.

When my children were small we would stuff the cars full of donations to our local shelters, walk the dogs, help spread the word. That quickly snowballed into a position on the board of a shelter and donating tens of thousands of hours to assisting in every possible way to help save lives. I fostered for rescues large and small.
Years later I would start this rescue thinking I was somewhat prepared for this journey. Boy was I wrong. I have met some of the most evil, selfish and cruel people. I somehow justified that with the innocence I found in dogs and their need for a voice in a world that just doesn’t protect them in any way, shape or form.

As people did what they could to hurt me they would step on the animals I saved to hurt them just to hurt me. It continues to this day. I wonder if I am truly meant for rescue in a world that is so inately selfish it’s almost impossible to find Justice and Compassion. Im losing hope.

I think the final straw for me is knowing that temporary Foster’s could find that using large amounts of money to protect themselves while leaving town with our 9 innocent dogs, hiding them, selling them on the street, making IG accounts that they aren’t tagged on, hiding their link to our dogs, knowingly making accusations in court to hurt me, our rescue and the future of shelter dogs, has sickened me to the core.

I wish I knew how to be selfish. I really do. I wish I could put my cancer treatments first, my healing from the betrayal of my husband and a tramp that would help him hide a family from ours, would help him destroy my family, but I don’t know how. I always have put our animals first and for the first time I think of really stopping.

If Rescue contracts are not upholded by our courts, if our honor system is broken by monsters, if dogs are taken advantage of after we save them, if we have no protections or support, why continue?

It kills me to see the faces of dogs that are dying and know that so many more have died at the hands of the people that stole dogs that we own. It kills me each day to fight for what right in a world where wrong is often protected and even encouraged.

It kills me to know that that little book of proverbs maybe was meant for another world in another lifetime but not in the one that I exist in. By no means am I perfect but I could never do what these sick and purely evil people do.

The lucky dogs survive and lead a good life. I’m sure it less than 10 percent of the population. Does anyone care out there cause it feels like that’s all we are is less than 10 percent of the population saving 10 percent of the animals fighting for their lives.

Virginia is one of the many puppies growing up in rescue. She is one of the dogs we sacrifice for while she waits in a sea of puppies that need homes. Consider being a part of helping these dogs. They aren’t the only ones that need you.

They aren’t stolen property they are stolen family!! NY State now recognizes animals as family so where is the family we saved from a high kill shelter?

Stolen, hidden, stalled in court waiting each day for an answer. Share all over the country and spread the word that our family is being hidden against our will!

There’s no place on earth I would rather be than in the company of dogs. Rescue dogs may not attract every humans attention but that’s because you can’t see their soul.

I can

Julia is gentle, softy shy, reserved, full of love and light. She loves other dogs and people but because of a scary first few months of life she sits back and waits quietly while her sister Emma takes the lead, always.

So Julia has less confidence in herself. That’s ok. I will always love her. I pray for a home for her. She’s about 8 months, vetted, dog, cat and people friendly. She’s non aggressive and may bark if something scares her at first.

🚨 Urgent Foster Needed – Please Read & Share 🚨 we can transport her to any foster home

We’re reaching out with heavy hearts and hopeful intentions. One of our dogs was surrendered back into our care after showing aggressive behavior to one member of the family. This is a serious issue which requires careful consideration on the part of our rescue. We take the safety of our dogs and the community very seriously.

After our evaluation, we do believe that she could live happily and safely in a low traffic adult only home. She is social with other dogs and has lived with cats and bunnies. She enjoys cuddling with other dogs and her people. She is not destructive, fully potty trained, and crate trained.

We do want to take her to a veterinary behaviorist and a certified trainer to give her all the support she needs. We would pay for all of this, we just need a patient person to commit to fostering her until we find her perfect family.

We are currently paying $50 a day on private boarding which is just not sustainable for a small rescue like ours.

Please reach out if you are even at all interested.

A Good Dog Rescue

I, Lisa Smith, started this rescue with a team of experienced friends and colleagues that have a genuine desire to help Good Dogs find Good homes. We believe in dog safety, quality of life, commitment, loyalty, love, training, passion, education and a better life for all dogs. We believe they are Gods creatures, they should be cherished and respected. We will not accept anything less. We chose the name A Good Dog Rescue because we will hold ourselves to a higher standard, expect more from us because we expect more from ourselves. We are committed to them as they trust us to do so.
