Today, and I did something a little out of our comfort zone. I got a little lesson in drill team etiquette from an English dressage riders perspective. We had zero clue what we were doing but we worked hard at it and had fun with some super neat people! I don’t think we’ve ever done so many circles before 😂😂

The lesson was canceled yesterday due to muddy and slick pastures just being plain unsafe. But, my girl is dedicated and came out today instead and she did a little road riding! Which anyone can tell you is a whole lot different than a round pen. She let enjoy some fresh green grass finally after an hour of fighting with her pull down antics and snapped this pretty photo of her!

Happy Thanksgiving from our herd to yours! I hope everyone had some good food, fun, laughter, and joy today. , , , , and all enjoyed a warm mash, watermelon, apples, and sliced carrots. The neighbor ponies and boarder pony Voodoo, Aray, Sunshine, Ellie, Elliot, Percy, and Decker all got a couple fresh sliced apples.

Winter is settling in for the season and all of us humans are preparing for time with our families for the upcoming coming holidays. While we are out spending money on gifts and trinkets the rescues are struggling to find enough money to house and feed their four legged friends.

I would like to ask you, my friends, to make a donation to our local rescue Double 00 Farm during this season of thanks and giving. These special creatures need our help right now with hay, appropriate forage, grain, and vet care.

The farm also put on events for the kids and families to get to know the horses. They attend farm shows and ag events to spread education and awareness. This is a community and they need our help.

Pictured below are just a few of the horses under this rescues care. Marie, is a special one, a skin and bones mare brought in by a kindly gentlemen who attempted to rehab her himself but found it was too much for him. She has made amazing progress in her weight and health at the farm. She requires a special diet due to poor teeth not allowing her to eat regular hay. Moose, Ebony, and Pete as well are kid favorites at the farm. Lastly, Buddy (aka Ty) a horse we recently picked up for one of our local families to love on.

If you find it in your hearts, I know they would truly appreciate any donations. Double 00 Farm is a 501c3.

Old man gave us a scare tonight. He decided it has been a year since he had an event so tonight was the night to have a bit of gas colic. Thank goodness for good friends that stayed by our side for the scariest part and an awesome vet who answered my calls. By the time I left he was up and munching on grass like nothing ever happened. I know the time is coming faster than any of us would like and I have been mentally preparing myself for a long time to lose him. But are we ever really ready to lose our best friend?

Picked up this old man from Double 00 Farm yesterday for one of our lesson families. They’re going to come try him out this coming week and we can’t wait! They’ve already named him Tyrion (Ty for short.) He’s very sweet and gentle. Reminds me a lot of my Whiskey.

There’s a moment in time where you and your horse have perfect communication and everything you’ve been working on for two years finally clicks into place at just the right moment. Today was that day for and me.

If I wouldn’t have had a witness to the moment I wouldn’t have believed it to happen.

Most of you know Heidi is a pull and drag kind of horse and she makes you work for every step. I’ve been attempting to teach her using leg queues more instead of dragging the bit through her mouth and making her softer and more supple.

We did some disengaging of the hindquarters, picking up the shoulders, and bending. My friend showed up to ride her horse and I wanted to finish up my ride. At the last minute I decided to see how well all of the “practice” steps stuck. I put my right leg on, tipped her nose to the right, opened the left leg and bent her ribs, shifting my weight to open the door and she did the most controlled, beautiful, side pass she’s ever done willingly.

Bam. There it was. Perfect communication, perfect timing, simply perfect.
