While you're out doing your weekend shopping, maybe you'd like to pick up a little something for SparKY? These are some of our most needed items currently at our rescue center (1004 E. 18th Street, Owensboro, KY). You can drop off donations Saturday between 9-2 at the rescue center, or order from our Chewy or Amazon.com wish lists and have it delivered directly to us. If you want to purchase pelletized litter from Tractor Supply Co., we can arrange for one of our volunteers to do a curbside pickup! Just send us a message or email [email protected] and let us know which location. (Owensboro only, please.) You can also have Tractor Supply orders delivered directly to us.

‼️🌀Emergency hurricane adopters & fosters needed!

The VHS is working with our colleagues at Best Friends Animal Society to accept some pets displaced from Hurricane Milton that will soon hit Florida. In order to do this, we MUST make space in our shelter immediately.

Therefore, we will be offering FREE ADOPTIONS starting today, October 9th until October 13th. This applies to every available pet in our care: dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, small animals, and cats at River Kitty Cat Cafe. Daviess County Fiscal Court is considering defunding our animal shelter. This decision, led by Janie Marksberry and Charlie Castlen, will leave funding for our shelter up in the air and will be damaging to both the animals of Daviess County and the generous employees who have dedicated their careers to help the innocent animals in our community.

This change in policy will mean our shelter is no longer guaranteed operational funding from the county which means the quality of care and the amount of animals saved will be at risk.

Contact our county officials today to inform them you are AGAINST defunding the shelter!

I would like to remind you that it’s the time of year to see turtles crossing our roads. Please give them a brake and if possible help move them along. I'm not asking you to jeopardize your safety but if you can, please help. Make sure you nudge them in the direction they were headed or your help could have been in vain. Please whatever you do DO Not remove the turtle from the area in which you found it . Simply move the turtle safely off the road in the same direction in which it was traveling .
