Xena - With this very sweet girl, it has been two steps forward and one step back. But we are making progress! She has been seeing our local vet three times a week for bandage changes and this week we were able to decrease to two times a week. We are believing her progress will continue and she will heal properly. ๐Ÿ™๐ŸปShe is incredibly sweet and just wants to be loved and rubbed all the time. Her purrs are magical and her eyes so filled with light and love. Her medical bills are mounting though! If you would consider giving something in her honor (even a small donation) to help with the medical bills it would be greatly appreciated. If you can't give thatโ€™s ok! Please send her some love and prayers and share this post. She still has a very long way to go.

Congratulations to GreenLei, Jack and MaryAnne! Early one morning, upon arriving at work, we found four beautiful little tabby kittens walking down our long drive, meowing and looking for help. They had been dumped. They were all pretty scared, infested with fleas, and hungry. We took these four babies in and immediately started to work. About two to three hours later, we heard a very loud kitty outside who was making her way down the drive, literally screamingโ€”screaming for her babies. Mama had been found and wanted her babies back! What a reunion it was, with Mama now helping in the process of saving these babies.

We quickly named Mama Lily. However, we needed names for the babies, so they became GreenLei, PinkLei, BlueLei, and YellowLei. After several months, as the babies began to grow, we received a call from a wonderful family who had lost a precious kitty and was wanting to adopt another. Their current kitty needed some companionship, and they had so much love to offer. When they visited, Green Lea decided this was her humans, her forever people, and they agreed. She was spunky and sweet, and this was what they were looking for. After a few days, they adopted Green Lea into their forever home to love and cherish. We still keep in contact and know that Green Lea is in the best possible placeโ€”her forever home!

Thank you, Jack and Mary Anne, for loving this sweet girl so much.

Update on Xena: We were hoping to be able to pick her up on Tuesday, however she is receiving bandage changes daily under sedation and they felt like it was best for her to be there during this process. With the holiday and weekend it would be too many days without that change. As of yesterday, there were 2 areas of concern at the incision line - not looking quite as they had hoped but hopefully this is just a small set back. She is eating, drinking and doing lots and lots of purring. Our plan is to pick her up on Saturday after they do a bandage change and hopefully resume the bandage changes next week here in Owensboro. Each day she is inpatient at the hospital, the bill just keeps going up, and once she gets home she will need an every other day visit to the vet for bandage changes. Can we just give up? Absolutely not. She wants to live a happy long life and she is so deserving. If you can donate a little, please do. If you can't please send up a few prayers for this sweet baby, she needs all the support she can get!

*******************************************************************

Last week we committed to this sweet kitty that was hit by a car and left for dead in the middle of the road - She was severely injured with multiple obvious fractures of the leg (open fracture) and pelvis. The vet that was able to see her said, "We have nothing to offer her here, if you want to save her, you will have to go somewhere else". Well from experience, we knew what this meant. We were off to Auburn Vet School, in Auburn Alabama in hopes of not only saving her life, but her leg as well. She had over a 4 hour surgery on Thursday, where with near perfect skill they attempted to reconstruct the bones in her leg. She is still currently in patient at Auburn, while she gets daily bandage changes and they monitor the incision and wounds for infection. This is crucial as open fractures are so susceptible to infection and could certainly change the outcome. She is resting and on pain meds. One of the vet techs told us today during our report time, "You guys are amazing at giving her this chance, most rescues and shelters would never consider it". While this was a huge compliment, it also made us sad as so many rescues and shelters, for various reasons, do not see the value in specialty care, especially for cats. We are NOT that rescue. Each animal that comes into our care is so very important and special in everywhere, regardless of their breed, age, species, or special needs. With all of the special care that Xena is getting, we need your help. If you can donate, please do, if not, say a few prayers and share her post. This precious girl deserves to live and thrive. Thanks for all you do for us and all the animals that deserve the best. We will update when we know more.

CONGRATULATIONS to Ms. Kitty and Wendy on their happily ever after!!!

Here's the revised version of your text with corrected grammar and punctuation:

Miss Kitty found herself thrown into the mix at the Owensboro Humane Society. She was quite literally thrown when an older woman came to the door with a carrier and tossed her into the office, saying that the cat was purposely going to kill her by rubbing on her legs, which might knock her down. Miss Kitty is a very sweet, declawed kitty and was just wanting some affection and attention. She was traumatized when she first came but instantly won the hearts of all the staff and volunteers. She was perfect, beautiful, loving, and sweet, looking for her forever home.

Wendy had been looking for a declawed kitty as she had recently lost one of her precious babies, and her current cat was depressed. She also said that her family felt the loss, and her house was sad and not its normal happy place. Wendy and her daughter came to visit Miss Kitty and instantly knew she was the one for them. Her beautiful personality and stunning appearance was sure to brighten their home. The vote was in, and it was unanimous! Everyone in the family loved Miss Kitty and couldn't wait to take her home and start the journey.

Romeo was surrendered to the Owensboro Humane Society as a stray when he was about six weeks old. He was in pretty rough shape, which is typical for strays in our area. He was infested with fleas, had diarrhea, was dehydrated, and super scared. On top of everything, he had an upper respiratory infection. Once everything had cleared, it was evident that Romeo had another problem: he had chronic sinusitis and allergy issues. It was seasonal, but it kept him from getting adoptedโ€”who wanted a cat that sneezed and produced that much snot?

Romeo was a favorite even when he sneezed snot in our hair. He is the most loving boy and longed for his forever home. Each day it looked as if his forever home would be with us at the Owensboro Humane Society. One day, we received a call from Marlee, who said she had fallen in love with Romeo's picture (he is a looker). But we just knew that when we told her Romeo had chronic sinusitis, she would no longer be interested. WE WERE WRONG! She made the hour trip to meet Romeo, and it was love at first sight for both of them. He ran to her and jumped on her shoulders as if to say, "Hey mom, what took you so long? I've been waiting for you."

While adoptions are bittersweet, this boy left lasting love and memories that we will not forget, and we are happy he is in his forever home.
