However, the heat can be challenging for puppies, so here are some tips and tricks to keep your little companion cool and comfortable during the warm months.
1. Morning and Evening Walks
Opt for walks early in the morning or late in the evening when the temperatures are cooler. This helps avoid the intense midday heat and reduces the risk of overheating or burning their sensitive paw pads on hot pavement.
2. Hydration is Key
Always have fresh, cool water available for your puppy. You can carry a portable water bottle with an attached bowl during walks. Adding ice cubes to their water dish can also help keep the water cool for longer.
3. Shade and Shelter
Ensure your puppy has access to shaded areas whenever they're outside. Create a cozy, shaded spot in your yard with umbrellas, tents, or canopies. Indoors, keep them in well-ventilated rooms with fans or air conditioning.
4. Cool Treats
Treat your puppy to some refreshing snacks like frozen dog-safe fruits (e.g., blueberries or watermelon) or ice cubes made from low-sodium broth. These not only cool them down but also make for a fun, tasty treat.
