When your shelter uses managed intake and expects the community to fill their void, this is what happens. Think about it.

CATS DO FALL FROM WINDOWS THIS TIME OF YEAR. Everyone is opening windows when it starts getting warm and don't think about their furry friends and how they might put them in danger. Screens over time are unsecured or get old and rip easy. Any pressure pushes the screen out.

A large number of cats have accidents every year when they fall out of open windows or from balconies. Every year the University Clinic for Small Animals at the Vetmeduni Vienna treats about 70 to 80 cats that suffer from bone fractures or internal injuries after such accidents.

If your cat has fallen from a height, you should take them immediately to a veterinary hospital, ideally an emergency facility that can evaluate them ASAP for critical injuries. Amazingly, many cats can and do survive after falling and do quite well. This is typically after intensive care and treatment, where they are often hospitalized for several days.

Put chicken wire on inside of windows. Secured with strong duct tape or build a frame to secure in window with hardware cloth or use baby gates.

Spring is here and the Easter holiday is coming up, a reminder to keep lilies out of your house and away from your cats.

The stem, leaves, petals, pollen, and even the water in the vase poses a risk to your cat. Close contact and sniffing can be enough to expose your cat. Lily toxicity will lead to kidney failure that can lead to death if left untreated.

The best way to prevent lily toxicity is to keep your cat away from lilies. While not all lilies are toxic, it can be hard to differentiate. Do not bring lilies into your home if you have a cat, and do not plant them in your garden if you or your neighbors have cats that have access to the outdoors.

It is always best as a cat and dog caregiver to do research before bring new plants or flowers home.

If you think your cat may have chewed on or ingested lily, seek veterinary care immediately and contact pet poison control.

Keep lilies away from your kitties!

As Valentine’s Day approaches we’re asking people to think twice when buying flowers to ensure lilies don't come into contact with cats.

Lilies are extremely toxic to cats and eating any part of the lily – flowers, leaves, stem or pollen – is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and can cause kidney damage and even death.

You can help spread awareness with our free poster, available here: https://icatcare.org/advice/lethal-lilies/

Meet the newest addition to the City Kitties! London was the last kitten left from Shanghai and Sing Sing's litter and finally went in the trap on Thursday! After getting spayed and vaccinated at the PGSPCA clinic yesterday she is quickly learning that human touch is nice! She's still quarantined from the other kittens but soon she can join them right before they all go to their forever homes.

Meet Shanghai (tuxedo) and Sing-Sing (siamese) two out of 3 kittens we came across during our current TNR project. Shanghai is a total lovebug and Sing-Sing is still a bit shy. Their sibling is a cute gray tabby that we hope to get this week! They had some ticks removed and are still in quarantine but we think they'll make fast friends with Paris as they seem to be just about the same age πŸ’•
