Hope and Horses

It must be the most frequently tweeted horse quote.

“Something about the outside of the horse is good for the inside of the man.” unknown origin.

And maybe it’s the combination of fresh air, sunshine, horse hair, and good old-fashioned dirt, but it’s true; something about the horse helps man heal. Researchers are finally trying to outline, define, and identify the cause-effect relationship between horses, people, and healing. As the researchers work to define, at Spero, I work to apply.

Enter Minnie and Bella. They are the two even-tempered, sweet-spirited mares (yes, mares!) who help our riders find independence, self-control, self-confidence, balance, coordination, improved judgement, improved planning and executive function, physical strength, emotional stability, increased concentration...and the list goes on. Each horse has her own set of talents and attributes that pair with the unique set of challenges of the rider, and together they find strength and, most importantly, hope. Hope for our riders and hope for the families of our riders.
