📣 ADOPTABLE CAT HIGHLIGHT 📣

~1 year old spayed female tuxedo cat. Absolutely the most gorgeous girl east of the Mississippi River. 🖤🤍🖤

Letty loves to be outside with her harness on (okay, she just likes to be outside and tolerates the harness for her safety 😉). She LOVES to snuggle and is very laid back. She’s the only animal in her foster home, but with an intro period we are sure she would acclimate to another 4 legged sibling. She is on monthly flea/tick prevention, but is not vaccinated (will be responsibility of adopter). Indoor only home preferred and no declawing.

It has been a hot minute since we’ve had an update. It’s just me (Lauren) running the show at the moment and I’ve been slacking on keeping y’all updated. Today we have exciting news!

This momma cat and her 4 kittens are getting a freedom ride from Western Kentucky to North Carolina this weekend. 🥳

All are fixed, vaxxed, and super friendly, however Western KY is inundated with cats and adoptions are slow. Another rescuer reached out to us asking for help and through our network, we found a rescue that has openings and is able to take these kitties on. We are providing the transport, but three rescue groups and one individual rescuer have all had a hand in getting these animals to a forever home.

Teamwork, teamwork, teamwork. Together we changed the lives of these 5 cats. We know we can’t save them all, but we will work damn hard to save those we can. 🤍

*TRIGGER WARNING CAT INJURY*

Pictures below: The day Jennifer found Trudi wandering the streets in Ohio, to her healed (or so we thought) and loving her indoor home life and lap cat life with her momma Natalya Cathy Brooklynn, and today, her final picture.

We said goodbye to Trudi today. 💔 we thought she had an abscess based on original diagnosis, but it turns out it’s cancer in her sinus cavity, and it came roaring it’s ugly head quickly this week. It never gets easier. We have to celebrate that Trudi had so many of y’all that cared about her and provided monetary support to get her vet care and all the prayers said for her. Thank you to each and every one of you. She was done fighting and peacefully left us and crossed the Rainbow Bridge this morning.

The vet and staff at Paris Vet Clinic were very supportive and caring, and treated Trudi with such respect.

Spay and neuter. Don’t dump your animals on the street—rehome or surrender to a shelter or rescue.

This cutie is set to be spayed this week, and will then be ready for her forever home! Found wandering the streets of Paducah, KY, a Good Samaritan scooped her up and brought her indoors. She uses the litter-box and enjoys snuggling in the bed. She does try to sneak out when the front door is opened, likely because she is used to being outside.
She will be ready for her forever home this weekend!

Short rant about adoptable cats. 📣

Friends, please share! These two boys have the perfect indoor home waiting for them somewhere!!! They are fixed and UTD on all vaccinations! Just over a year old, and have been together since they were 6 weeks old. We prefer for them to be adopted together but they can be separated to the right homes. They get along with other cats and large dogs. Good with kids, and have had exposure to lots of new folks coming and going from the shop (business) and the foster home.

We have received NO interest in these boys since January! Why??? They are so super chill and just need a cat tree with a window to watch the world.

They cannot live with their foster forever—and the only option for rehoming we have come across is a barn home. Which would be totally unfair to two cats that have never lived outside. We reserve our barn homes for our semi-feral kitties that need relocation. These two are inside only boys, but at the same time, do we go with the thought that a permanent home is a permanent home? Our foster did not sign up to adopt these kitties, and we can’t help other kitties out of bad situations like we did for these two (they came from a hoarding/neglect case). This is the side of rescue that’s rarely talked about…what do you do when you have no adopters? We keep them safe but turn away others in need. Other cats are literally dying bc we cannot get them into our care while we have healthy, happy kitties sitting here that no one has connected with 😞

Please note, we will never be desperate enough to adopt these boys out that they will go to another unsafe situation. All potential adopters are checked out, vet references, and even potential home visit required.

If you would like to foster these two to give some relief to the current foster, please let us know!

This cutie is ~8 months old and has never known a life off of her chain. She is not fixed, and has had no vetting. Her owners do not have the time or capacity to care for her, so we were asked to post as a courtesy in hopes she can find a new home. Perhaps one where she could live indoors!

Please message us if you are interested in adopting or fostering! We really need to get her out of this situation as soon as possible. Foster will be given food, flea/tick meds, bowls, and leash/collar.
Due to lack of funds we (Sheltered) cannot sponsor her spay or vetting but we couldn’t look at her face and not offer SOMETHING.

The white car that Paducah citizens were alerted about a few weeks ago who were caught trying to lure loose cats and dogs into their vehicle are back at it!!!

STAY VIGILANT! A caring citizen caught them trying to lure a loose white dog into their car on the 2500 block of Madison in Midtown on Monday, August 1, 2023. Thankfully they intervened but sadly could not drive and get a good pic of their license plate. They followed them out of the neighborhood (pictured below near Baptist).

STORY TIME! 📣
The first kittens that we ever took in are celebrating their first birthdays today. All have been fixed and live inside full time. ❤️ They are all so, so loved and we thankfully still get updates on their antics. 😻

Backstory—These 5 boys were born outside under a house, destined to die young or become feral. Their momma was completely feral. She had likely produced many litters before, and the majority of her kittens likely never survived. She was sadly hit by a car and found deceased in a ditch. Our friend Ashley had been waiting for a moment to try to grab the spicy kittens, and now that task would be easier without their momma moving them around, but they were still so young they would need some bottle feeding and a lot of care. Ashley and her family are Godsends to the stray cats of a neighborhood in which they don’t even live! They sadly had a family member pass away who was doing their best to feed stray cats, but TNR efforts were not at work in this colony. Once they began cleaning out the property of their family member they aggressively started vetting, feeding, and TNR’ing these kitties. We are so proud to say that there have been NO KITTENS born in this colony in about a year. As soon as a new one shows up, they fix it! TNR WORKS!!! The remaining kitties are fed daily and some of the feral ones have even come around to let Ashley and her family members love on them. WE LOVE TO SEE IT! ❤️

Now, look at where these kittens started and where they are now….the credit truly goes to this family and our sister rescue Jackson Purchase Forgotten Felines Inc. We were just getting started and already overwhelmed, but both parties helped us help these kittens. Rescue is teamwork. It has to be.

Cat owner moved, left their kitty behind with a new tenant and now, as it USUALLY goes, the indoor cat has been turned outside.

Located in Paducah, KY. Is there anyone that can add this boy to their home? Current feeders do not think he is neutered, and unsure of vetting (no records).

This kitty doesn’t deserve an outside life and is likely so confused about what is going on. Let’s show him humans are better than how he’s been treated.

Special thanks to the lady feeding him even though she’s allergic. Remember—-if you can’t help them, at least don’t harm them!

7/31 update: the kitten has not been spotted for three days. We are losing hope that it survived the elements. 💔 Colony caretaker is still searching daily for the kitten. If we had a foster that stepped up the same day we could have nabbed the kitten, but without a home to go to we must do what we can, which in this case was to continue to provide food and water and shelter. This is the fate of many outdoor kittens. Please spay and neuter, and don’t dump your animals outside. We aren’t giving up, and we now have a very temp foster home lined up should we see him again. He will need lots of vetting and a forever home, but first up is to hope he comes back around. Please pray!!

This emaciated kitten turned up at an established neighborhood colony outside of Nashville, TN.

The current caretaker is trying to gain its trust. It is being fed daily and has access to water. We would LOVE for this kitty to transition to an indoor home (caretaker can pet it when wet food is out, and stated that there’s no fat, no muscle, just skin and bones). It showed up a couple days ago with no momma or siblings in tow. It has probably been in survival mode for a couple weeks which is why it’s so scared. We are confident it will come around and tame up. The colony caretaker just had major surgery and has many other animals to care for. Is there anyone able to give this kitten a home? Transport can be arranged to the Paducah, KY area, or meet up in the Nashville, TN area.

Gender is unknown, but how defeated does this poor baby look?! It’s eyes are already full of heartbreak. Let’s work together to find this kitten a forever home! Please share!

Here I am again to rattle my virtual tin cup. 😞

We had two adoptions this past week, which was great!! We have three kittens that are adopted and heading to their forever homes after they are fixed on August 8th.

However, we have 5 cats in long term foster care (likely not going anywhere anytime soon as all efforts for adoption have yielded zero interest—4 of them pictured below—all fixed and super sweet!). We have 11 cats in short term foster care that we think are more likely to be adopted after kitten season eases. BUT…we are still feeding these kitties, providing supplements, flea treatment, etc…..and cat food and litter are not cheap!

Me, Lauren (founder/director/foster), donated plasma last week to get a little bump in funds to buy cat food. Would love to not have to do that again. 🥲 We use Purina Gentle dry cat food (purple bag), Friskies pate (not the shreds—it’s for a 13 year old picky cat in long term foster care) wet food, and any type of clumping cat litter. I also need to cover gas for someone to transport the three little kittens to their spay/neuter appt and back.

URGENT ADOPTION REQUEST! Please share!

Meet Tilly, a super sweet tabby female that is spayed and fully vetted. She needs an indoor home. Is okay with other cats and dogs (not a lot of exposure, but enough that she doesn’t freak out).

Tilly was found in a home with an elderly man after his family discovered he passed away. They put Tilly outside to fend for herself and that did not go well (FYI—it rarely does for indoor kitties that are thrown outside). Thankfully she found herself on the porch of another rescuer in western Kentucky who is feeding strays. Like all of us, she is overloaded and cannot keep Tilly and continue her rescue work, though she did get Tilly fixed and vaccinated when Tilly’s owner was still living. We need someone to step up and adopt this loving kitty. She is confused, scared, and needs love!

Our sister rescue in Western Kentucky has such a great sanctuary for kitties with major medical issues. Their semi-blind kitty Mikasa went missing in a cornfield and alllllll the others in her cat gang were like “not on our watch”.

😭🥺❤️ Cats in colonies are so amazingly protective of their gang.

PLEASE SHARE IF YOU CANNOT ADOPT!

These two boys have been in foster care more than half their lives! Rocky and Oscar are just over a year old (birthdays in May). They are so ready for their forever home/s! Both are neutered and up to date on rabies vaccination. They sport an ear tip, but have never been outside and it is not recommended they be outside kitties.

These two scamps were taken during a dog hoarding/abuse rescue case on the east coast. They were living in filthy conditions, and were so scared of humans. Now you wouldn’t know they ever suffered any abuse. They are SO LOVING! (Thanks to the dedicated work of Tina Terrell and Jennifer Rose Rhodes Oliver and Samantha Bowen). These two have been together since they were 6 weeks old, but are not littermates and no longer super bonded. We would love to see them go to a home together, but it is not a requirement.

They LOVE treats, chin scritches, and their 7’ cat tower/scratcher 😹 (adopter will for sure want to invest in a cat tower, but we can also provide this very used one if both go to the same home). They are content with Friskies hard kibble but not very picky on food or litter. Super agreeable kitties, very “go with the flow” boys. They get along with other cats (neither are alpha males and have been in a foster home with several male and female cats), and dogs (they have lived with a pitbull in their foster home—sleep in the same bed!—and no issues).

These boys have been featured several times since January and have had NO INTEREST! 💔 It’s heartbreaking because they are seriously such easy going cats. They had such a rough start (details are bad…BAD) but despite that they still let us love on them, pick them up, play with them. They just need a safe home with a cat tower and a window to watch the world.

They can’t live with me forever. They deserve to get settled and start their life!

TRUDI UPDATE!

Y’all! Look what love, medicine, and a good grooming can do! She is THRIVING in her new home. Lots of chair snuggles, yummy food, and brushing.

And special thank you to Barks N Bubbles Paducah for grooming her! We highly recommend their cat grooming services. Her mats were down to the skin and poor baby was in constant pain. They eased this pain for her. 🤍

*HOME FOUND* cornbread has been adopted through another rescuers efforts! It takes a village and Cornbread sure had a big one!!! Teamwork put this boy in a new home.

Look at this handsome orange boy! This is a heartbreaker of a situation; no negative comments will be tolerated.

One of our Paducah-area residents sent this to us….

“My sister has a rare type of leukemia and has gotten some devastating news this week.

She has had her cat Cornbread, for about 5 years, and needs to find him a new home immediately. He’s approximately 7 years old now, very healthy, has been neutered. He’s an inside cat. He’s fairly “needy”, because he craves attention and getting scratches on his head. She’s been gone a lot and he’s been so lonely. He’s very loving. Calm and laid back but does startle easily. Very healthy. Beautiful boy! He’s quite hefty too. 😁 but that’s just more to love!”

👉 Cornbread is okay with some dogs, not good with other cats (has been an only kitty) and not fond of being picked up and carried around so small children may not be a fit.

If interested please message us directly—we will put you in touch with the family member in charge. They can send more info, more pictures, answer questions.

Friends…the need for a foster or adopter is VERY URGENT. Cornbread’s owner has been given just a few more weeks of life.

I am sickened even typing that out. I would love to have his new home secured before his owner passes so she knows he’s taken care of. I can’t imagine, but this is WHAT WE DO HERE.

Before you adopt that “free” puppy or kitten…remember that puppies and kittens are HYPER, MESSY, and REQUIRE LOTS OF ATTENTION.

They also REQUIRE several rounds of vaccinations and to be spayed or neutered (NO EXCEPTIONS!)

Stop “adopting” a dog or cat for a month only to realize you’re not going to be a great pet owner.

WE ARE TIRED AND BROKE. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOMES FOR UNWANTED PETS. THERE AREN’T ENOUGH DONATIONS FOR RESCUES TO TAKE ON *YOUR* RESPONSIBILITY. If you have to rehome a pet make sure it is UTD on vaccines and FIXED! And if it goes to a rescue YOU BETTER MAKE A MONETARY DONATION since we are picking up YOUR slack!!!!

This is what all rescuers are thinking, but many are afraid to tell it like it is for fear of losing donations. 🤡 IDC if someone gets upset over this post. I (Lauren) self fund 80% of what Sheltered •rescue reimagined• does, so go off. 🙆🏻‍♀️

Folks do not realize how hard animal rescue is…come walk in our shoes for a day. Most couldn’t handle it. Especially once they realize nearly all of us are doing this voluntarily with no funding and no facilities. The hard part isn’t the animals…it’s the humans. We do it for the animals but we loathe it because of the humans.

We have ANOTHER successful adoption to brag about 🥳

Snuggles was adopted to a wonderful home as the only kitty, where she will get allll the attention and snuggles 😉. Her first day in her new home she napped with her new fur dad.

Snuggles came to us as a foster when her dad became ill and went into hospice care, where he sadly passed away a few days later. She has been with us (Lauren) for several months. Just recently her family was ready to let her go to a new home …sometimes the family needs time to process that this last extension of their family member will no longer be readily available to them, and that’s okay! We have been very fortunate to be able to host Snuggles as long as we have. She was fully vetted, spayed, etc. prior to coming to us so it really was just a matter of feeding her and loving her. This is what being a village is all about! What a beautiful ending for this special girl.

Trudi update from her new mom:
She is settling in nicely (check out that SMILE in the first pic 😻). The swelling is slowly reducing, and she’s taking her meds like a champ. She will go back to LOAC on Friday, June 16th for a follow up and (hopefully) vaccines. Then (pending vax), she will be groomed at Barks N Bubbles Paducah to remove some of these painful mats.

Despite all her physical trauma, she is the sweetest, most loving kitty!!

This angel baby was dumped outside and left to fend for himself. It’s a story we know all too well, sadly. He is safe now in our care, but will need a permanent home.

He also needs a name…suggestions? He is so sweet and loves to be carried around.

We are THRILLED to announce that Presley has been adopted and it’s such a perfect match! 😭💕 Her new mom is a vet student so we are confident Pres will be in very capable hands. We sure will miss her but she’s going to live an amazing life and that’s what rescue is all about!!!

Please share!!! These boys have been in a foster home with other cats and have been around big dogs. We no longer feel they need to go to a home together, since they have bonded with other kitties in foster care.

The Russian blue boy MUST sleep near your head every night. 😹 If you want a clingy kitty, this is the one! The striped tabby is a bit more adventurous and likes to roam around the house vs being in one room or area like his brother.

Koda (now named Milo) found his purrfect forever home with Emily! He made the big trip to his new home in Mississippi today.

He immediately found a hair tie and made it his new toy 😹(he has a million new cat toys, of course).
