Quilted Affair

Quilted Affair Turning today's treasured memories into tomorrow's heirloom quilts My name is Ashley and I'm an airframe design engineer who loves to quilt.

I live in sunny Palm Bay, FL with my husband Ryan, my dog Willow, and my cat KC (none of whom are allowed in my sewing studio, heehee). I have a bedroom devoted to my sewing (I call it the "Quilting Haven") and I am constantly making quilted gifts for friends and family. I've made everything from a re-usable coffee sleeve to a monogrammed bed quilt - I love a challenge! I never seem to have much l

isted in my Etsy shop because I keep filling up my calendar with projects for friends and friends-of-friends. But 2013 is a new year and I hope to focus more effort on filling my shop and exposing more people to my fun and wonderful creations. Feel free to contact me with any special requests. You can reach me via facebook or an Etsy message. Now it's time to get back to sewing!

07/13/2018

It's been a long time since I posted on here, but I finally got the sewing room set back up and finished a quilt that I started a few years ago and never got around to completing. This one wasn't for a customer so I think I will end up giving it to one of my friends who are gators fans

Ryan's Candy Maker

Look at this gem I found in my drafts...I made a pretty cool candy dispenser for Ryan for Valentine's Day. First woodworking project on my own since 6th grade i think. Not too shabby ;)

Ok this one's going way back in time...it doesn't feel that long ago to me but this year has been flying by! For Valentine's Day this year I wanted to make something fun for Ryan. Anyone who...

Robin's Double Quilt Order - Pt 2

Ever wonder how i turn some of the more complicated clothing pieces into simple squares? Check out today's post to see one example

Once I got approval on the "rough" layout for each of the quilts, it was time to start cutting and working on the items that needed to be appliqued. I also especially wanted to show how I deal with...

Greyson's Gator Quilt Pt 1 - HST's

Earlier this year I finally got started working on Greyson's Gator quilt. I've gotten so behind on posting but I figured better late than never :)

When my first niece was born, my sister in law asked if I would make a bed spread for her when she was ready to move into her "big girl bed". So we decided that would be a 2nd birthday gift. Well...

Store-bought Replacements - Pasta

As part of our less junk less waste challenge, I made some homemade pasta a while ago with my grandmother's pasta maker. Came out pretty darn delicious :)

In our quest to reduce the junk we eat and decrease preservatives and packaging in our foods, we continue to try to make things from scratch. One of the latest adventures has been making pasta by...

Amanda's KU Quilt - Planning & Cutting

Over Christmas break, Amanda and I finally got started on her KU tshirt quilt that I offered to make as a graduation present. It was fun to get to work on it a little bit together :)

In May 2014, my younger sister Amanda graduated from the University of Kansas (KU). We all flew out to KS to be there for her graduation and to celebrate together. Can you guess what my gift to...

Anyone remember those old doublemint gum commercials? Thats how I feel working on these two nearly identical quilts for a customer's two daughters.

Goodbye 2014, Hello 2015

Goodbye 2014, Hello 2015!

It's kind of funny how the change of the year leads us all to look back on what we did and make new plans for the coming year. I mean, we could look back and review what we've been doing at...

Michelle's Tshirt Quilt

Finally finished Michelle's tshirt quilt, thank goodness for friends who are patient...but it came out wonderfully and should give her years of use!

I just finished a t-shirt quilt for my friend Michelle and it took me a long time. And I mean a REALLY long time. It wasn't complex - it didn't take more physical hours of labor than other...

Cricut Explore Overview

Check out the new Cricut Explore and see how I used it to make adhesive vinyl labels for my pantry containers!

I was one lucky lady this Christmas. Not only did we get to spend time with ALL of our parents and siblings over the past month, I also ended up getting some pretty neat toys :) One of the cool...

DIY Half Apron Towel

Here's a quick tutorial for a cute half apron made from two kitchen hand towels!

I don't know about you but if I'm going to wear an apron, I want it to be half size so that I can take it on and off easily without having to go over my head. I also want it to be somewhat...

Tabitha's Airplane Quilt Finished

Since Ryan's out doing some much-needed roof repair, I finally had some time to finish up Tabitha's Airplane Quilt. It is seriously adorable. Although as an aircraft structural design engineer the ratio of the wing size to the body and tail really bug me, LOL. It was hard to get the plane how i wanted it to be AFTER the seam allowances.

After I got all the blocks sewn, I played around with a couple of different layouts until I found one I liked. I decided to have the columns of planes alternating directions and the different colored...

Tabitha's Airplane Quilt - Piecing

Hard to believe I haven't posted on FB about quilting in three months, yikes! But I'm finally getting some work done on Tabitha's airplane quilt, hope to finish it up soon!

A few months ago, a friend asked me to make a custom quilt for her daughter (she was still pregnant at the time). Her husband is a test pilot for Velocity and they own their own aircraft so when...

Adrianne's Quilt - Piecing & Applique

Took a little break to work on some other personal stuff but now I'm back at it. Got Adrianne's quilt top pieced, time to get the backing fabric so I can load it onto the quilt machine!

I was doing so good blogging for a couple weeks and now here I am, almost two weeks behind again. Yikes! Maybe it's the time of year? Anyways, last time we talked about Adrianne's quilt, I had...

Adrianne's Quilt - Layout & Cutting

Got started on another baby clothes quilt for Adrianne...here we go again :)

In between all my cooking and bootcamp craziness, I'm still sewing away. The next quilt on the list is another baby clothes quilt for an Etsy customer Adrianne. She sent me all her baby clothes...

Maura's Quilt - Layout & Cutting

Took a break from D'Arcey's quilt to get Maura's quilt layout and cutting done. Starting to really get good at multitasking quilts to keep pace with recent orders :)

I'm happy to say I've got another baby clothes quilt to work on - all of these orders are coming in from Etsy (not people I know personally) so maybe my name and brand are finally starting to get out...

D'Arcey's Quilt - Piecing & Quilting

Some of you may have already seen the adorable tigger block I made for this quilt but here's a full update on the piecing of D'Arcey's quilt

After I got Sandy's quilt done, I was able to pay some more attention to D'Arcey's quilt and get it all loaded up onto the quilt machine.

01/17/2014
Bianca's Quilt Pt 4 - Quilt Back

Made a little progress on Bianca's quilt back but ran out of interfacing...again. LOL.

Unlike a standard tshirt quilt, Bianca's quilt back is made up of additional tshirts! It's basically two quilt tops instead of a top and a back.

Bianca's Quilt Pt 3 - Piecing the Top

Bianca's quilt top is done, yay! Now to get started on the quilt back of this double sided beast :)

Between running out of interfacing, finishing up previous orders and family/holiday travel, I didn't get much time in December to work on Bianca's quilt top. Last time I posted, I was ironing on...
