This is Coco, a 1-year-old Yorkie that presented for possible dystocia (difficult or obstructed labor or delivery).
Prior to arrival she had two puppies naturally. No contractions for 3 hours. Owner became concerned, brought her in and we radiographed, ultrasounded and ultimately decided that oxytocin and time was the best course of action. Coco was at PERC birthing her puppies naturally (with her owners in an exam room) for about 8 hours. Nurses Parker & Lynda assisted when necessary. Our new assistant Katie got to partake in her first whelping assist, too! The result was a grand total of five healthy baby girls!

Meet Tiki, a strong, brave, sweet, and resilient Frenchie who is a survivor of Parvovirus

Parvovirus can affect puppies too young to be vaccinated, puppies within their vaccination course, and unvaccinated adult dogs. Flies and other vectors can also carry the virus from yard to yard.

🐾Parvovirus attacks the gastrointestinal tract
🐾The main way that dogs contract Parvovirus is through the f***s (stool) and vomit of infected dogs
🐾Parvovirus can affect puppies too young to be vaccinated, puppies within their vaccination course, and unvaccinated adult dogs. Flies and other vectors can also carry the virus from yard to yard.
🐾😛Vaccinating your pet is the only way to protect them from the disease

Some of the signs of parvovirus include lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain and sometimes bloating, fever or low body temperature (hypothermia), vomiting, and severe (often bloody) diarrhea. Persistent vomiting and diarrhea can cause rapid dehydration, and damage to the intestines and immune system can cause septic shock.

If your dog exhibits symptoms of parvovirus, take them to your nearest veterinarian to be tested immediately. Call PERC at (561)691-9999 we are open 24/7. The quicker they can be treated, the better the chance of recovery.

✨Patient Spotlight✨
Department: Emergency
Doctor: Micheal West

Remi is a 1 year old Persian who presented with a Lily toxicity, owners took him to their local veterinarian immediately for corrective care and then transferred to us for continued management over the weekend.
The SWEETEST most handsome man! 💕
He was treated with IV fluids and supportive care, bloodwork was rechecked and thankfully, he was discharged home to his family, happy and healthy.

A little bit about Lily toxicity:
-Kidney damage begins within 12 hours and can become irreversible after 18 hours.
-If your cat receives early treatment, they are likely to make a full recovery, though they may need expensive dialysis for a time. If left untreated, kidney failure can lead to death within 24 to 72 hours.
