A healthy alternative to store bought dog treats are carrots, apples and cucumbers. Not too much though. A slice or two of apple, half a handful of cut carrot slices or a few sliced pieces of cucumber. If you have a small dog just give a few small pieces.

Tip of the day. When taking your pet outside for a walk, playtime or a ride in the car, always go out the door first. When you are ready, set the leash by the door. Don't get your pet excited by saying, you wanna go outside? Instead, be silent and make your pet stand away from the door. If he won't cooperate, just leave the door and relax for a minute. Leash him up and invite him outside. Excited dogs make for an excited walk. Repetition is key. Do the same when entering your home. You go in first. A happy dog is a calm dog.

Tip for the day. A harness is used for pulling. If your dog pulls when on a leash, a harness is the wrong tool. Shorten the length of the leash from your hand to your dog. Every time he pulls, block him by standing in front of him. Rinse and repeat as often as necessary.
