Flagler Animal Hospital

We would like everyone to meet Lori! You may recognize her from up front at the receptionist desk but these days she is the friendly voice behind the phone. Lori wears many hats in our practice and she is an imperative supportive staff person in our hospital. Read on to learn more about Lori's path to FAH and her many talents!

Lori Good, Administrative Assistant

Lori moved from Pine, Colorado to Palm Coast, Florida in 2000 with her husband Warren and their beloved yellow Lab named Frisco. Before joining our staff, she worked in banking and property management. During Lori's childhood there were always at least two dogs as part of her family. Lori knew that one day she would follow her passion for working with animals. She started working at Flagler Animal Hospital in May 2013 and quickly became a big asset to our team. Lori has always been an animal lover and also loves working with people. Her warm and friendly personality made her a natural for the client service role.

In 2016 Lori decided to take on the challenging job of Administrative Assistant. She is a huge help to Kelly (our Hospital Manager), the doctors and all staff. She does call backs to owners and checks on their pets. She is also in charge of all client correspondence, including welcome cards and thank you cards. She ensures that patient reminders for exams, vaccines and tests are correct, answers questions from clients, schedules follow-up appointments, faxes patient records, and does follow up for the doctors. Lori also helps to coordinate hospital repairs by working with contractors and repair people. She organizes hospital activities, including our annual holiday party and food for staff meetings. In addition, she answers behavior questions for clients, assists Dr. Mendez with behavioral consultations, takes care of our banking and fills in as a client service representative.

Lori also has a strong interest in animal behavior and nutrition. She began working as an assistant to Dr. Ericka Mendez in her private dog training business in 2008. She has since become a Certified Dog Trainer. Today, she and Dr. Mendez have their own dog training business called Flagler Canine Solutions. They teach puppy classes here at the hospital. Lori also does private lessons and especially enjoys helping difficult German Shepherds.

Lori has a special place in her heart for rescued animals. She is a volunteer for Echo Dogs White Shepherd Rescue. She also helps with transport as needed. Lori and her husband love spending time with their two beautiful rescued White Shepherds, Shaylee and Meeka. In her spare time, Lori enjoys going to the beach and taking care of her backyard squirrels and birds.

Flagler Animal Hospital

This is Yaya and she is looking for a forever home. She is a 5 year old chihuahua that is spayed. She is very sweet but a little shy. She has been getting lots of love from our staff and is slowly coming out of her shell. She loves to sit on laps and be pet and she is potty trained. She hasn't barked yet and seems indifferent to other dogs and cats. She would be a wonderful companion for a calm and quiet household. Sadly she was neglected in her previous home and is recovering now from an emergency c-section and spay (unfortunately her labor was prolonged and her pups had already passed away). If you or someone you know would be willing to open your heart and home to this little girl please call and we can tell you more about her. Please ask for our inpatient technician Jessica H. and she will be happy to discuss her needs with you.

Charlie is boarding and getting some playtime in with a well behaved adult dog. Charlie gets rolled a few times but he's a hardy little guy and comes back for more. Still cleaning up after Irma hence the debris piles.

Wilson is new to our house so he is crated when we aren't home. Why crate him? Well his potty training skills are still getting there, he seems to have a penchant for chewing up random objects and the cat is still not super fond of him. All good reasons to keep him in a crate. He wasn't super stoked about being crated at first but with training it's now his go to spot to relax. Not every dog is happy in a crate but it can be a great solution for problem behaviors for some.

These two have managed to find a way to play together. Dog play is very individual to each dog. You may hear Cody growling but he is a very noisy player and the growls don't mean he's angry or upset, just aroused. He's very much enjoying what is happening on the bed. Of course their favorite place to play.

Happy to see Cubby again! Such a sweet girl and as always quite the talker! She was one of our very first puppy class puppies about 10 years ago!

Puppy class dress up night is always fun! Not only is it fun to dress puppies up in ridiculous outfits but it also teaches them to be handled in slightly strange ways. Tonight we went over handling, brushing teeth, come when called and practiced our sits, collar grabs and did some off leash following! Of course with a lot of play and socialization in between all that hard work.

Missed these in my original post, yay for Savannah Annie!

Congratulations to all of our puppy class graduates 🎓🎊

It's always a fun class when we play dress up. During this play puppies are learning to be handled in ways they may not be used to. We also go over nail trims, teeth brushing and veterinary handling for a lifetime of success. These are important aggression prevention techniques that must be practiced from an early age.

Harley is a 5 month old 5 pound chihuahua puppy that is in desperate need of a new home. He has had all of his puppy shots but he is still too young to be neutered. His current owners love him dearly but the resident cat seems to think that he is a large rat and continues to attack the poor guy. The owner is very afraid that he is going to get injured (the cat is rather large). He has a fantastic personality and is very sweet and loving, playful and brave and funny. He has a minor injury right now that we are monitoring closely and so far he is healing well. If you can find any space in your heart and home for this little guy please let us know. Please feel free to share this post!

Please post if you have questions! I want this to be a place that you can come for guidance if you need it as most of the time someone else has the same question! Great first class and I will see you next week!

It is that time again! We will be starting puppy classes up again for puppies between 8 and 16 weeks of age (or by special permission). Puppy classes are a wonderful early socialization experience and help to bond your puppy to the hospital for life. This means a puppy that doesn't walk but runs into the hospital and is happy to see everybody while they are here! It has been almost 10 years since we started puppy classes and those very first puppies are still happy to visit us and are a joy to work with. It is an investment that lasts a lifetime for you and your pet. If you would like to enroll in class just leave us a comment or give us a call and we can send you the registration form. Class size is small to maximize learning so if you are interested it is best to act fast as the class tends to fill up quickly. A completed registration form and deposit are required to save your spot in class. Classes will start Thursday August 25th at 7 pm in the lobby and will run for 6 weeks. The class is $125 and the deposit is $40.

Dress up night is always a fun time! Most of the pictures are a little blurry because no one wanted to stop playing!

Ruler of the puppy class Cody James!! Cody is our resident adult dog in class. He does not play like a puppy although he loves to play and due to his special condition he does not appreciate being jumped on. Cody will get the tiny afraid puppies to come out to play and teach the big crazy puppies to tread carefully. He is a huge asset and a unique feature of our puppy classes. Cody has been "assisting" in our classes since he attended at 12 weeks old which is now 2 years! While he has been nipped a few times he has never injured another pup due to his excellent bite inhibition. Most participants in class actually cheer him on when he is correcting their puppy as it is a very good although noisy lesson he is teaching them.
