Charlie in prk
GREAT Progress with Charlie Brown or Charlie Bear's diet regimen....
If you didn't know he weighed in at 115 lbs when we first took him in from the vet office where his owners requested euthanasia
He was over fed a diet high in people food & table scraps, and under exercised..
NOW we are happy to report he has a waistline and the lrg bulge behind his frt legs is much smaller.
Added bonus: We had to use a ramp which was very difficult to coax him up into a SUV but since he has lost weight, he jumps right in and out!!
--OR, if it wasn't his weight, we always wonder if our rescues are afraid to get into a car when their owners dumped them on their LAST car ride..and with Charlie (as many) this scenario fits--
He had an outing at a park to meet possible adopters but it fell through since now they need to find new rental housing that allows lrg breed dogs..
So PLS take another look at this "Gentle Giant":.. He is just a LOVE BUG, is a dream to walk on leash, gets along with other dogs even CATS..He is super quiet and doesn't even think about escaping like a sibe..
Our guess is he is a Malamute/Germ Shep cross..
Charlie is so charming, everyone who meets him falls in love.
He does need to take daily meds for reported seizures by his previous owners but we have not witnessed one breakthrough.
We did have his blood tests and medication reevaluated by our vet who pointed out he was being under dosed.

The wonderful life our pup RUDY is living in OJAI..
Rudy and his sibgligs and Mom & Dad were confiscated by animal control from a terrible situation of livin in a car with little food. We were asked to raise the pups from 8 wks and also take the Mom & 'Dad when they could be released from the court case. That is quite an undertaking of time and expense but we stepped up.
Take a look at these picts..I would say it was all worth it, huh?
Mom & Dad were elated to see their pups when reuntied.
Your DONATIONS make this committment possible.
RUDY is the second dog Beau & Elizabeth adopted from us.
The first was a female rescued from Lancsaster shelter and lived a long life in their wonderful loving home.
New Human mom Elizabeth shares the following info and
Dad Beau follows....
"So thought you'd appreciate a note letting you know how your boy Rudy is doing. I can't believe we've had him six months already!
He is definitely all exuberant young male husky - a digger, a food beggar, a squirrel chaser... he loves to race through the house and leap over furniture!
But, he is also incredibly sweet and loving, and does his absolute best to be a good boy (except when he forgets, ha ha.) He loves nothing better than cuddling and lounging with us and chasing a ball or a toy. He spends most of his day time hanging out with Beau in the studio - he's very happy to nap on the sofa or the floor while Beau works, very content to be with his master.
Once he is outside though, he does laps at top speed around the yard, plays in the pool, chases toys, and roughhouses with Beau. Coco does not enjoy rough play, and makes that very clear, so we don't allow that; Rudy responds well to "leave it" if he tries to engage her. They do play tug together, and are great companions when chasing squirrels or digging holes. We can tell Coco really enjoys his company, and he follows her lead in everything.
We've got him pretty well trained to walk with Coco on a lead, though he can be jumpy
Missing our 'ol friend MAC...(MCDoanld)
This post has been WAY overdue but I found it very difficult to bring myself to the words..
Several months ago, our good friend & adopter, Richard "Mac" McDonald left this world suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving his bride and dedicated wife of many years, JANET devastated and ALL who knew him..
He was the kind of man who would HELP anyone in need and not just help, but go way beyond their mere minor request.
He was a fine handyman and excellent carpenter, Jack-of-all-trades, so he would create in his workshop with all his beloved tools outstanding projects for anyone who asked. I was so thankful and in awe at our first Christmas exchange when they both presented beautiful hand made unique gifts out of wood...See, my Dad was a carpenter also and the memory and smell of fresh sawdust flying in the garage is hard to forget...
Do you know to this day I have NOT touched or used those gifts but keep them on display just to stare at them and smile. I would not want to tarnish them in any way and even more so now, after his passing I want to always honor and cherish their creations.
Janet gets after me for that but I just don't know if I can ever bring myself to really use them..
He loved his HUGE BIG red Man's diesel truck which I might add he kept squeaky clean so he would not hesitate to pack that rig up with a delivery and head on up the L A freeway system bearing gifts, completed projects, with Janet riding shotgun and OH YES the sibes or mals they loved so much sleeping happily in the back seat..
See,, MAC was a truck driver his entire life.. The last gig being RALPS's market. In fact, the first time he arrived here at THE HAVEN, he quickly told me how he delivered to the Ralps a few blocks away many years and could recite all the local stores by location and number.
Sadly though ALL those years sitting behind the wheel of a BIg Rig took its toll on Mac's body and he was plagued with back and other injuries that caused g

CELEBRATING "SIERRA's" Two year Anniversary of finding her furever home...in the loving arms of Susan & Brian of Altadena.
Sierra is a purebred "piebald" which some of you will know but many others believe they are dal mixes. She always had the sweetest personality and got along well with all BUT those spots (as they called them) just kept getting in the way and the Jerseymaid jokes flowed. I got to the point if one more person insulted her I could not contain myself !!!
Then....the wonderful Susan & Brian came along and saw past her spots to the wonderful being inside. They have given her the most cherished, loving home we could not be happier. They even included her in their matrimonial vows.
P S She adores her kitty cat siblings (YES she was one of the rare ones..)
From Susan:
Can't believe Sierra has been with us two years already! So happy she is part of our family! Thank you! Susan & Brian
Here are some of our favorite highlights..
