Teaching your pups grooming. Hold the hair on their chin or the side of their face below the ear. This replicates their mother’s correction. It does not hurt your pup…. It’s a control measure that is inherent genetically. Mom says stop. You are reinforcing that. Only let go when pup submits. The submission is the reward activator. Groomers must be able to hold your pups chin in order to safely groom their faces with sharp instruments. The pup is safe. Everyone is happy

Let’s talk dogs today…. Specifically nail trimming and Why your dog hates it. In the wild, when a dogs legs are taken out from under him it spells death…..think about your rescue pups. They were probably in survival mode for a long time. The act of holding their foot sends fear signals to the brain. Fight or flight is activated. Now let’s think about the breeds that’s heritage/genetics requires them to use their feet as tools. Dachshunds, terriers, greyhound, whippet…. Multiply that 10x. Patience and puppy training is key. Hold their feet and show love. Trust is key!
