I love to be proven wrong! I’ll be the first to say it, I still have so much to learn when it comes to dog training, but I’m excited to keep learning. When a friend of mine told me she was getting a Golden Retriever-Alaskan Malamute mix I didn’t hesitate before saying, “good luck.” I knew that Brandy was going to be cute, but most definitely a handful. Looking at breed characteristics I thought she would be crazy, mouth, jumpy, and too smart for her own good. I wasn’t totally wrong, and at times she is all of these things, but she is also one of the most well behaved puppies I’ve met. Since meeting her I can see she is calm, sweet and even submissive.

Now I’m not telling people to go out and and get this exact mix, but to look past breed traits when getting a dog. Just because a breed has certain tendencies does not mean that every dog will be that way. The same goes for meeting someone with a dog that is well behaved, if you get that same breed you are NOT guaranteed the same results. The best way to have a well behaved dog is to put the time and effort into training!

She’s still young and lots of things can change, but her family definitely has her off on the right foot, and I’m happy to see her grow into the beautiful dog she is going to be!
