With only a few exceptions, every leather item they sell is made in their Main Street workroom by craftsmen with a combined 80+ years of experience. Quillins' 12 employees produce a variety of products, from key tags, belts and dog collars to halters worn by leading stallions and multi-million dollar Keeneland sales toppers. Quillins supplies local and international customers and boasts a client list that reads like the whose who of the thoroughbred industry. Attention to detail, impeccable craftsmanship and personal service has made Quillin Leather & Tack synonymous with quality for OVER 30 years.

Re-inking Dog Collar Name Plates

While we stand by the quality of our craftsmanship and materials used in our pet collars, we cannot assure that the enamel on the nameplate will withstand scratches, extreme weather conditions, or everyday activities of your pet. To refresh the ink at home, please follow these steps. First, clean the plate using paint thinner or nail polish remover, then let it dry completely. To re-ink, apply any black model paint sourced from a hobby shop or Walmart with a Q-Tip, using it as a dabber, and remove any excess paint with a folded paper towel in a squeegee-like manner. Once the paint has dried, gently buff the plate with a soft cloth to eliminate any remaining paint.

Choosing the Correct Size
"What is the most sought-after halter? Which size should I select?"

We have recently integrated two buckle crowns as a standard feature in ALL our halters!

You can easily find a helpful sizing chart at https://www.quillin.com/service/halter-size/—it’s quite straightforward to measure your current halter and align those dimensions with our specifications. Just remember to measure from ONLY the leather, excluding any halter hardware in your measurements.

As for our best-selling halter, the ideal choice hinges on your specific needs. The track halter features a sturdy 1 1/8-inch strap accompanied by slightly larger hardware, offering a stationary chin and triple-stitched nose as standard. While perfect for the racetrack, it may be more than what you require for barn or farm activities. For those purposes, you might want to consider our Kentucky Sale Halter. It mirrors the construction of our Track Heater but boasts a 1-inch strap and fittings. It's an exceptionally functional and aesthetically pleasing halter.

We provide an optional throat snap and name plate for all our halters. Like all our products, they are available in brown with brass or black with stainless steel. And don’t overlook our Quillin Turnout Halters. They feature the same premium hand-selected bridle leather, solid brass fittings, and craftsmanship that characterize all our handcrafted leather items.

Nearly a year prior, Quillin's relocated to an expanded facility on Main Street in Paris, KY. Our new establishment consolidates the showroom, workshop, engraving, repair, and shipping services all in a single downtown venue.

Since our inception in 1982, we have had a presence on Main Street, and this larger location provides us with ample space for growth, strategic accessibility, and the convenience of housing all our in-house services under one roof. At our 716 Main Street address, we proudly offer comprehensive repair, halter production, engraving, shipping solutions along with many new items in our showroom.

Our Story

Owned and operated by Ralph & Donna Quillin & Son Vince Grupposo, Quillin Leather & Tack is a full service tack and leather goods shop and the largest "custom shops" in the nation. They take pride in their craftsmanship and it shows. Halters are made in small batches and their "made to order" philosophy sets them apart as a provider of quality leather goods and service world wide.

Quillin’s has been in business since 1982, based out of their Main St. shop in Paris, KY. On average they make over 17,000 halters a year with 20 employees working in the shop. They also produce many belts, dog collars and personal leather goods plus feature an onsite engraving shop and complete repair service. "We still hand craft halters the way they were made at the turn of the century." Ralph Quillin said "it's what you would expect when the owners name is out front"

They recently announced an expansion into a second 4000 sq foot location Downtown Paris on Main St. which will serve as a second showroom and primary halter production space for their growing Export Market.
