New Years Eve and fireworks are around the corner

Just a reminder to prepare our pets for NYE:
1. If your pet is scared of fireworks, allow them access to a place where they like to hide and feel safe, maybe in their crate, under the bed/sofa or in the laundry.
2. Close all curtains to minimise light flashes.
3. Play some music in the background, try Bach, or some dogs find audiobooks soothing.
4. Have lots of their favourite treats and toys ready so that you can engage them in games and fun times for distraction, if possible.
5. If they are upset or scared, cuddling them will not 'reinforce their fear'. Please do comfort them if it helps them to feel better.
6. Make sure your pet is microchipped and has ID such as a tag/collar on, just in case they get lost.
7. Ask your vet about meds - some pets who are phobic need them to prevent a panic attack.

I’m so very proud of my girl Zen (Element’s Moonglow of Zenovia; R***r x Wicked) today. She competed in her first CPE Scent Work container searches today at Bon-Clyde Training Center in Sanford, NC and qualified in all 4 trials, then ended up with 2 first and 2 second places. She loves this game! Now she completed the first leg in Novice. 😊❤️👏

Joanne Kuchinski judged the trial.

This is one of the top discussions I have with my client because they are having house training problems and behavior/training concerns.

Feed scheduled times (does not have to be exact time every day) and pick up food bowl when the dog stops eating.

Free feeding can actually cause more harm than good for your dog. Here's some reasons why trainers recommend feeding your dog on a schedule:

Free feeding can increase the risk of resource guarding. This is especially true with multi dog homes as well as homes with children. Dogs shouldn't have to feel stressed when they eat. Here, dogs are all fed in their crates. This also helps with giving them a positive association with their crate!

Free feeding eliminates a reason for your dog to "work". So many dogs are very food motivated. Food can be an excellent tool for training, but why would they work for it if it's left out all the time?

Free feeding also increases the chance of a picky eater.

When potty training, it's much easier to time what comes out by when it goes in.

Free feeding HIGHLY increases the likelihood that your pet will struggle with obesity which is one of the leading causes of health issues in dogs.

A great indicator if something is wrong with your dog is if their appetite suddenly changes. It's easier to determine this if you know how much your dog eats daily. How much you feed your dog can be determined by age, breed, size, and activity level. Structured feeding is also a great way to ensure your dog is getting the proper nutrition each day.

Unless your pet is on medication that needs to be given at a certain time, feeding schedules should work around yours. It does not have to be at the same time everyday.

Element’s Moonglow of Zenovia (R***r x Wicked ).

“Zen” and I went to Youngsville FastCat event Friday and Saturday (11/24-11/25/2023). Her runs were 7.61 sec (26.88 mph), 7.64 sec (26.77 mph), 7.63 sec (26.81 mph) and 26.64 sec (26.74 mph).

So today Zen earned her first AKC title, BCAT!

Thank you Joanne Kuchinski and Jules Asbed for handling her as her releaser!

This and beyond, look out for signs that your dog could be stressed so you can keep your pooch and other people happy and safe 💛

Good information. Dogs do not like to be hugged or for people to be in their face, causing children and adult humans to get bitten.
