I absolutely LOVE update videos from my clients.

Recent Board & Train alumni, Ranger had some over the top energy and was naughty in the house and getting into things. He lacked direction, and he was frustrated.

Ranger needed a job, he needed a mental and physical outlet. He’s now listening to obedience, he’s got a solid place command, even now puts himself on place.

Ranger’s dad is keeping up with the work to include treadmill sessions because he knows Ranger needs it in order to be a better dog.

I’m super proud of this duo. Keep going, keep up the work. It’s only strengthening the relationship and Ranger is a happier more balanced dog with more direction.

Throwback Thursday to Board & Train, Alumni Toa. Having to slow down things, bring that busy, Boxer brain down a few levels.

I don’t usually use food when training dogs like Toa, but in the beginning, as I was helping Toa build his focus on me versus the environment, I used a little food and once I had that focus, I never used the treats again.

Still work head with his humans. Expressing the importance of them staying consistent with the new relationship they are building, which takes a lot of work in order to see results.

This lil dude and his adorable attitude. Makes you work for his trust. That’s okay though, I get it, I’m the same way.
Foster Tater and I are making great progress in the trust department.
I do believe bath time and face washing are in order now.

I wished more people understood the importance of going slow with a rescue dog. Or even a new foster needs time to adjust, jeez, being bounced around or discarded, or who knows what. Wouldn’t you have trust issues?

And pro tip, coddling and over showering with affection, isn’t always the answer either.

So many people rush things and then the new adoption goes south and they wonder why the dog was defensive or displaying unwanted behaviors.

Not all, but many relationships take a little more time and patience than others. It takes time for rescue dogs or foster dogs to adjust. More time for some.

So grateful I was able to help Toa and his humans. Still more work to do empowering and creating a strong handler for Toa. It’s been awesome watching the relationship and communication evolve.
Thank you Toa family for the kind review and trust.

Actions shots are the best with Boxers … it was fun spending time with training alumni Toa.

We still have some follow up lessons with his humans coming up too.

Training alumni, Toa back with me for a short Staycation, he checked in yesterday. I’m honored and grateful for our bond.

Also, I know his human mom is pretty picky where Toa goes.

At the beginning of Toa’s Board & Train I had to gain her trust too. So, I’m definitely feeling honored.

Board & Train alumni Toa.This is a follow up lesson building owner- handler confidence.

This is pretty huge for Toa and his mom, because prior to Board & Train, Toa was pretty explosive when seeing another dog when on leash.

Toa is an insecure dog, so he needs a calm, confident handler. He needs to know his handler has his back and she is leading him.

This will be an ongoing journey as the two of them continue the work together building their confidence and strengthening their relationship.

Teaching Toa’s mom timing, tools, techniques and most of all, I’m determined to build her confidence so she has the confidence, skills and power to take her dog , Toa anywhere.

I’m waking up extremely disappointed, I’m feeling sad, my heart hurts that I could not help Frank the Boxer. I had to send him home last night.

The amount of pressure we were both enduring just doing a kennel entry was not working for either of us. It was not productive, we weren’t getting anywhere positive. It was only making him more angry with me.

I felt neither Frank or I were safe and this was only getting more negative. Not like how I like to do things.

I had wanted to wait it out until the weekend to see if things would improve, but, I made the judgement call last night to send Frank home.

It was not fair for either of us to keep going the way we were going.

He’s got some pretty serious dislike of entering a kennel, and once in the kennel the stress was causing him to continue to p*e and poo in his kennel.

Maybe a different set up will work for him. He didn’t seem to mind walking into the outdoor run, but the indoor kennel return was a fight that I no longer wanted either of us to endure.

I’m truly feeling broken I could not break through and feel sad and disappointed I didn’t get a chance to help Frank with the things he needs so desperately. Nor did I get a chance to help his family.

I’m not gonna sugar coat this update! Real s**t here.. literally crap…Frank has issues and now mega tummy issues and I’m frustrated!

The resistance he has just to re-enter his kennel is like nothing I’ve ever seen.
I’m pretty stubborn myself, so he’s met his match. But, I feel like throwing in the towel.

11/18/2024

After some time waiting and sitting near him.. Frank was calm enough for me to loop him through the kennel.

There was mention of him being a leash biter, so I double looped him.

There was actually more of an issue going back into kennel. But, after a little leash and phycological pressure and time, Frank calmly entered back to his kennel. Frank and I did it.

This is a process as I build his trust. Once trust is established, then we begin work. However, this is part of the work, as I can already tell, Frank has trust issues and lacks confidence. So, it’s important to go slow in order to build his trust.
