Hamor Hollow Hedgehogs

Hamor Hollow Hedgehogs USDA-Licensed Breeder and Rescue — Conveniently Located in Central New England! Want to meet some hedgehogs? So we decided to become a breeder ourselves!

Committed hedgehog breeding and rescue serving New England since 2003. Schedule a visit to come play with and learn about hedgehogs! Just 45 minutes North of Boston or 35 minutes South of Manchester! As a husband and wife team, we coincidentally both had hedgies in our lives since 1995. After we got married in 1998 and our first pet store hedgies passed away, we had trouble finding a local reputable breeder.

These two boys (who are not caged together) came into our rescue within the last two weeks. One was purchased as a Christmas present from a grandmother to a child and the other was purchased as a birthday gift for a child. One of the hedgehogs is a year and a half old while the other is only approximately four months old. I am looking to adopt these hedgehogs out separately in exchange for a rescue fee to be donated to the Hedgehog welfare society. If you are interested, please contact us.

Both of these hedgehogs were purchased from a “Hedgehog store“ that is located in the same state as us. They do not offer any sort of real education when they sell their hedgehogs nor do they care if their hedgehogs are sold as gifts. This is disgusting behavior that we do not support, and that is why we’re asking for donations to the Hedgehog welfare society in order to rescue one of these boys. We hope that something good can come out of this situation and that these hedgehogs can find the real homes they deserve.

Once again, these hedgehogs are not Hamor Hollow hedgehog babies, and they do not come with any sort of guarantee. To the best of our knowledge, both hedgehogs are healthy and do not have any problems and will have finished their two weeks quarantine before they are able to go to their new homes.

Momma, Sugar Plum, and her babies. This is Sugar Plum's 2nd and last litter for 2025. She will be taking a long break and then possible breeding again at the end of January. At that time, we will evaluate her and decide if she will have another litter or if she will retire and live in the big cages with the other retired girls.

Here is a peak of mom, Marthe Jones, feeding her babies. This is one of my newest litters that will be ready in early September. Remember that we also have babies that are ready the second weekend of August that we are accepting deposits for now. PM me if you are interested.

Lucy’s baby pile! Isn’t it funny how the quills kids and mom can pile in next to each other and they don’t seem to mind each other’s quills? That’s because hedgehogs have thick skin and the quills of another Hedgehog don’t generally pe*****te the other Hedgehog skin. Also, the baby quills are much more pliable than the adult quills.

We are currently accepting deposits for the babies that will be ready the second weekend of August. If you are interested, pop me a PM and I’ll send you the info for a deposit.

Let’s talk about water bottles: a water bottle with a ball bearing in the spout is perfectly safe to use. What you don’t want is a ball bearing and a spring in the spout because it can cause a back suction. If you take the spout of your bottle off and shake it back-and-forth and you can hear the ball bearing moving from side to side freely, your water bottle is safe to use.

I personally prefer and recommend using water bottles over bowls because they are cleaner. Bowls, often get shavings and p**p thrown into them and then your pet drinks from it. It’s rather dirty and kind of nasty, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to drink your own f***s either.

What is unsafe to use are the big metal chunky water bottle holders that hang inside your cage. I have had hedgehogs get their lips caught on those and their loud screams are not fun to hear. The bottle itself is safe, the holder is not. (No photo because I sent those to metal recycling years ago.

This is my own researched and experienced opinion, based on breeding hedgehogs for over 22 years and owning hedgehogs for even longer than that. You are entitled to your own opinion, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you are right. Please keep your argument to yourself or they will be deleted.

I found these blood smudges when I was checking the hedgehogs this morning. I checked everyone in the nests for wounds, and everyone was perfectly fine.

Hedgehogs have thin blood, so a little scratch can look like Armageddon. By the time you see the mess, the tiny little scratch it came from may already be healed. Don’t over-react tif you can’t find the wound, however if it happens twice in a row, you need to see you vet. If there is a larger wound or you smell infection, go to your vet immediately!

*** Hedgehog babies will be ready to go to their new homes between Aug 9th and the 24th. If those dates work for you and you are ready to take home a hedgehog, please send me a DM. Deposits will be due within 48 hours of me sending you the info.

All hedgehogs will be picked out in person and taken home on the day of your appointment. We recommend that the primary caregiver of the hedgehog be there as well as any family living in the same house that will be involved with the hedgehog. If you have young children, we recommend you bring them so we can make sure the hedgehog is comfortable with them.

We also have one 4 month old boy available at a slight discount. He is very friendly and looking for his new home. He can be picked up at any pre-arranged time.

Pictured below is Apollo with his hedgehog friends. He is very sweet and gentile with them and is never left unsupervised with hedgehogs.

Mable and her 4 babies, born July 5th. We had 4 litters born over the holiday weekend, but it’s been a bit chaotic here so I haven’t had time to update. Thankfully, I had the Mom‘s in their baby cages extra early, so everybody was comfortable and ready to give birth. However, my dates were wrong and I wasn’t expecting babies for another four days.

Happy 4th of July!
