Our happy girl, Brisket, had to get surgery today.

She had TWO mast cell tumors - one on the back of her front leg and one on her hip. Surgery went well, and we are hoping that's the last of those nasty tumors!

Her surgery bill came to $1,113.89 and she is worth every penny!

UPDATE: Ziggy is on his in home trial!

A ZIG-A-ZIG, AH 🎼

Meet Ziggy! He’s no WANNABE. He’s the real deal with double dewclaws and all. This guy is a 3 year old Great Pyrenees and a victim of unfortunate eviction. After losing the only home he ever knew he became depressed and lost 25-30 pounds. He is now on the mend and gaining weight slowly.

Ziggy is not your typical livestock guardian. He wants to be inside with his family. It’s the only life he’s ever known. He is house/crate trained and gets along with other dogs of all sizes. Kids are so loved by him, but he could use some diligent training to not jump or knock them down. Sweet, mellow, playful and a big ham is how we would describe Ziggy.

This is an extra large dog considered a Giant Breed. He will shed, drool, require a raised bowl along with 6 cups of kibble per day and a tall fence.

NO VIDEO GAME IN SIGHT, but here we have Princess Peach in the flesh 👑🍑

Princess Peach who we refer to as Peaches is a courageous puppy that has definitely beaten the odds. Kept crated, matted and as a prisoner this brave peach escaped her captors and found herself to be the hero of her own story.

Princess Peach is an 8 month to a year old Shih-tzu pup. She has an amazing BIG personality. Peaches loves everyone she meets BIG or small. She gets along perfectly with other dogs and enjoys wrestling and a good game of chase. Give her a toy and she will occupy herself for long periods of time. Peaches is a lover not a fighter. She gives wonderful kisses and enjoys a warm lap for napping. She is girly and does her business outside in privacy. She also enjoys her princess crate and princess bed. She’s the most perfect sweet peach!

Meet little Miss Elliot the 9 week old Pit Bull Terrier looking for a new red dog house and friend that rivals the type of friend Woodstock was to Snoopy.

Elliot is your typical pup with lots of play and even more naps. AND…Look at those not-so-typical eyes! If you are looking for a bully with pizazz then she definitely is it!

UPDATE !!!

10 days ago I met a man named Timmy outside Food Lion. (See attached shared post)

We've been really looking forward to hearing from him, but as the days went on, all we heard was silence.

I started to wonder if he was still going to meet us for May's appointment...

Then yesterday I got a call! Timmy said he will meet us at 7am with May.
...... the reason we hadn't heard from him was that he'd been in the hospital.

Because someone had SET HIM ON FIRE.

You read that right. 🤬

Someone INTENTIONALLY set this man on fire, burning him from his elbows to his fingertips.

JB was pulling up at Food Lion when I called him with the news. "He's still here, covered in bandages. "

JB walked over, introduced himself, and found out Timmy had been life flighted to Prisma last week where they treated his injuries.

We will be using some of the donations to replace the clothes he lost (he's currently in a hospital gown and shorts) along with other supplies for Timmy, his mother (who he takes care of) and of course, for May.

We will update again tomorrow!

Yesterday I was leaving the grocery store with 4 bags of groceries in my hand and $65 less in my wallet.
Running budget numbers through my head: upcoming kibble and vet costs, needed car repairs, moving forward on the new property....and sitting on the sidewalk, I saw a homeless man, his dog, and 3 puppies.

Everyone concerned was hot and tired. The man had a bowl of water out for them, along with some dog treats a kind stranger had given him.

You know I couldn't leave well enough alone.

As I admired the pups and their momma, he told me he was trying to find good homes for the babies. He was ADAMANT that he didn't want them going to a bad person or a shelter.

I complimented him on how healthy momma and babies looked.
He said "I won't let them go hungry, I took her in when she wandered up a year ago, and she is my responsibility."
He's been sharing his own food, going hungry himself, to make sure they have enough.

He didn't breed momma intentionally, he has been trying to get her spayed, but he said everyone who offered to help either never showed up again or wanted to take ownership of her.

I'd love to say that I cannot believe someone would offer help....but only if he gives up the dog he's been starving himself for, to make sure she has a full belly.
But unfortunately, that's a common response from rescues to people in need.

Put yourself in his shoes for a moment, please. Your life has fallen apart to the point that you don't even have a place to call home. You're often hungry, at the mercy of the elements, and without medical care. Now your dog...the one who's been with you through everything...needs veterinary care. And the people offering to help will only do so if you give your beautiful dog to them. For keeps.

The rescue community needs to remember that rescue isn't just about the animals. It's also about the people.

If we see people who love their animals, struggling to provide for them, why the hell would we swoop in and demand custody? Why wouldn't we show up with food and supplies, offer to transport for medical care, make sure they don't have to stress about how they are going to afford food for the lives they treasure?

We need to do better.
Every case is different.
Some require exposure and charges pressed, some require understanding and a little help.

It's not about recognition or clout. It's about putting your actions where your mouth is.

Be kind. Be discerning. Be genuine.

Tyson is about 6-7 years old, house and crate trained, prefers female doggie companions, and is good with kids!

Sweet, playful, snuggly Tyson is a lovely dog - he's a comfort specialist who loves sunbathing and chewing his bone. (And dinner time, of course! Lol)

His ideal home is with people who love him and have excellent snacks & beds. 😂🥰

He's a balanced guy, enough energy to go hiking and enough sense to stay inside and binge watch your favorite show on rainy days!

Tyson is just a guy with crazy rizz, who is ready to be the main character, no cap! 😑🤣

Josephine, Jack, and Juniper went to the vet today for their first puppy checkup!

They are all happy, healthy, snuggly babies. 🥰

(Well, Juniper is a little spicy and may have ADHD too.) 😂😂😂

Weighing in at 11.5 each, they have all gained well over a pound in just a week!

They are available for pre-adoption and can potentially go to their new homes in just one more week! ♥️♥️♥️

JB says this healing thing is taking WAY too long. 😒

🚗 Just a little update, JB is still on the mend after the wreck he was in on 2/16/24. It's definitely a long road, but he IS making progress!

We haven't gotten a projected "healed by" date, we're just hoping it's as soon as possible. Between the loss of income and loss of ability to do normal activities, it's been a tough 2 months. (I do get to see him more, though, which I love!) 🥰

Please keep him (and all of us) in your thoughts and prayers, we are so excited to see what the future brings!
