Exciting news! 🐴❤️

Dear Sierra Oaks Vet Equine clients,

We wanted to update you on some exciting transitions ahead for the equine services team. Dr. Harms has founded a new independent professional corporation called Gateway Equine Veterinary Services, Inc, and as of November 25, 2024, Dr. Harms will be transitioning to practicing under this new name. The great news is that the essential parts of your client experience will stay the same, without you having to do anything! We will be maintaining the same equine services phone number, patient records, support staff, and ever-expanding and innovative medical capabilities. There will also be some new features including a client portal to access your horse's records at any time, and updated integrated payment systems.
Throughout the transition, we will keep you updated regarding anything additional you may need to know in order to make your experience as stress-free as possible. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
We look forward to continuing to serve you and your horses with excellence and integrity, and we continue to fully support and recommend our colleagues at Sierra Oaks Vet for your small animal veterinary needs.

Sincerely,
Dr. Corey Harms, DVM

This...right here 👇Real cowboys and cowgirls are the standard at EACPA.👇

"Last week, one of my students excitedly showed me her new cowboy boots. She was so proud of them, but then shared how kids at school had bullied her for wearing them with leggings. They called her “fake,” saying she wasn’t “cowboy enough” and wasn’t a “real cowgirl.”

I told her she was more of a cowgirl than any of them because real cowgirls support each other, show kindness, and act with compassion.

Later that week, I had a lesson with a younger student. Her little legs barely reached past the saddle pad, and she had to work hard to give the horse the right cues. She never complained or asked to stop; she just kept trying. I gave her a high five and said, “Well done, cowgirl!” She responded, a bit sadly, “I’m not a real cowgirl; I’m just using your horse for lessons.”

I explained that it’s not the horse, the hat, or the boots that make someone a cowgirl—it’s the dedication, grit, and determination. By that measure, she absolutely deserved the title.

Too often, people call themselves cowgirls (or cowboys) just because they have the look—the ranch, the boots, or the horse. But none of that truly defines them. A real cowgirl is someone who lifts others up, shows resilience, and stays committed, even when things get tough.

So, if you're willing to tear someone down, don’t call yourself a cowgirl. Nobody’s horse is that high.”

We had such a great Exposure Clinic this morning! 🐴❤️💪🏼

Everyone did incredibly well and ended on solid, strong notes with their horses. All teams transitioned from inside the barn to outside in the pasture with ease and handled their horses well when exposing them to so many new things.

I always love how much fun all participants have at our clinics. The Training the Team program focuses on equine psychology, herd dynamics, and horse/human interactions. Building these incredible relationships with our horses give people a chance to have fun safely and explore new things! If you’re interested in learning more, check out the Training the Team IG page.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning - and thank you to all the incredible assistants - we’ll see you all soon! 🐴❤️
