HAPPY 4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! To Hands and Paws Canine Training! 🎉

July of 2024 made 4 great years and I am sooooo grateful!

This journey has absolutely changed my life. It’s a journey I’m so excited to continue. Over the years I have made so many changes and learned a lot. This career is the career that keeps on giving. I’m constantly learning, meeting new people and stepping out of my comfort zone. I love it! 💕

HAPCT and my dogs are my everything. Without it I don’t know what I’d be doing. NONE of this would be possible without the endless support of you guys! To all the people I work with and to my friends! Y’all make this all so worth it! I’ve met so many amazing people the last 4 years and I don’t know how I’d do it without yall!

I find myself reminding myself and others to move on from the past. Although that is much harder than it sounds. We tend to get stuck on the past. That does no good for us nor our dogs. Our dogs live in the PRESENT and it’s a beautiful thing.

Our past paves the way for us to have new growth as we learn and gain experience. Dog training is constantly evolving, as a trainer and handler that means I am too and…… so are YOU 🫵🏼!

I used to get stuck on old methods when I was first learning how to train dogs. I would constantly think in black and white. I quickly learned that dog training is more abstract and made of a bunch of pieces that create a beautiful picture! Each dog has their own story and have their own special way of learning. Learning about this opened a bunch of learning opportunities for me and allowed me to grow my training toolbox so I can help more owners and dogs!

I was inspired to write about this after talking with about my ferns. Bethany said something on the line of “sometimes I have to trim off the old growth to make room for the new growth”. Sometimes we need to let go of old habits that are not getting us anywhere to make room for new ones that will allow us to bloom and flourish. That totally goes for dog training and personal development. Sometimes we need to address our dogs old behaviors AND OURS from the past that may not be productive and re condition them/ create new ones that will help them have a bright future!

Honestly I didn’t know where I was going with this post but reading it back now that I’ve written it….. I think it’s a beautiful message! ✨ I hope this inspired you and if it did let me know what resonated with you the most! 🩷

This is a post I wish I would never need to write but, here I am.

Over the course of the last few weeks I have been doing clearances on some of my dogs. Some people agree with these practices and some think it’s not needed.

As someone who places program service dogs, strives to have good ethics/ morales, and believes that the dogs health and safety comes first, I will never intentionally put my clients or dogs in harms way.

Here are some of the reasons I’m so passionate about getting health evaluations;
* How can these dogs help us when they may be hurting themselves
* Placing dogs with health issues is unethical
* I want each dog to have a long and successful life/ career. By doing health tests I’m able to gauge if that is possible both physically and mentally.
* It’s not fair to expect people to pay for a dog with limitations what will shorten their career and potentially life span
* Last but not least I am in the veterinary field and I really value my dogs well being. These dogs are my everything and I want the best for them and their health.

Far too many organizations place dogs or breed dogs with issues. That being said you can also have really good breeding pairings and things still come up. Or maybe an injury causes a future problem. Heath issues are always a risk and can be caused by many things.

With all of this being said I have to pull my one of my program dogs (Yoshi) from service work. He has very mild Elbow incongruity (common name is elbow dysplasia). It’s likely it could never effect him however it could also cause issues sooner with to much impact.

This is one of those things that you can see issues in 2-4 years, 8-10 years or potentially never. However I don’t think it’s fair to place him as a service dog and it’s a risk I don’t want to take. My orthopedic vet agrees.

Hey guys!

My name is Kaitlyn and I am the founder of KETrev Media. My love of social media strategy, management, and content creating started from a young age. As soon as I had an iPad, I grabbed my siblings and made elaborate iMovie trailers, vlogged hangouts with friends in high school, was always on the social media team for my college organizations and more. Through sharing my journey with my service dog, Sebastian, I have had the AMAZING opportunity to become a full time content creator and have loved every second of it. Throughout the years I have ran social media accounts for small businesses, lead corporate trainings on how to utilize social media to drive sales, and more so I decided it was time to go out on my own and start my own social media management company. E-Collar 101! ✨

The wonderful thing about dog training is that there are so many ways to teach things! The bad thing about dog training is there are so many ways to teach things.

This tool just like any tool can be used in an amazing way and a bad way. So if you want to utilize this tool you have to make sure your application is precise and fair. If you are not comfortable in your abilities to train with an E-Collar, then don’t and wait to higher a professional to help! I’d rather someone not use it if they don’t know how rather than use it and see fall out from not applying the tool in the right way.

I primarily use ecollars for off leash recall and heel work since I do so much travel and hikes. It makes doing those activities a lot more enjoyable for me and my dogs.

Something I think people need to spend more time on is building a relationship with their dog. Typically a lot of issues owners experience are a result of the dog having a lack of boundaries, poor relationship, and are unfulfilled.

“Hello! My name is Kristin Jackson. I am a assistant dog trainer with Hands and Paws Canine Training, and I am located in Central Florida. The first thing anyone should know about me is that I am all about passion! I love working with animals and training people to foster relationships with their dogs. A good relationship can open the door to so many amazing things.

I have been working with dogs for 6+ years in various professional capacities. From kennel tech to rescue rehabilitation, I’ve done it all! I have extensive experience whelping and raising puppies from the time I spent working hands on with an Australian Shepherd breeder. I am forever a student of the world, and I’m constantly seeking new ways to improve and learn. I encourage clients to do the same by fostering growth and sharing resources in a kind and supportive way.

I love to spend time in nature, hiking and taking photographs. In my spare time I also enjoy a variety of different dog sports, though I am still a novice I am really just there to have fun with my dogs!

I am ecstatic to embark on this journey and to be a bigger part of the ever growing Hands and Paws Canine Training family.”

Kristin and I met about 2 years ago when she inquired about service dog training. After her consultation we started working together over online sessions with her dog Ponyo. Eventually that led to a great friendship. Client Love 💗

Lesson client Grace and Maples review after working with me for some time! This team has made a ton of progress and I’m so excited to see how far they go! Maple comes for a board and train in a few months and I’m super excited to have her here.

Maple is in training to be a multi purpose service dog and has completed their basic obedience, and Advanced obedience portion of their curriculum! Currently we are working on task training! Our current focus is medical alert (Cardiac Alert) and Mobility foundations! However Maple has worked on a variety of other tasks leading up to this as well!

Oakley weighs 50-55lbs and stands about 20-21” Oakley can go in a variety of directions Autism assistance, Psychiatric assistance, and Medical Alert, therapy dog or facility dog. He has a fun and loving personality and loves adventures. He is on a mission to have a good time all the time! He is very much a water dog and enjoys my pool and the beach! He loves dock diving, agility and disc! He does great in exceptionally stimulating environments. He is great with a variety of animals such as horses, cows, cats, dogs and more. He is very easy to travel with and has great settling skills in and out of the home. Oakley knows a variety of task work and his enthusiasm to work is like no other! He has great persistency that would allow him to excel in behavior interruptions and medical alert.

I am very thankful for this amazing community I have around me. So many like minded people who inspire me and push me. I’ve met SOOO many amazing people this year and I’m very grateful they are in my life.

I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel across America to see friends, family, other colleagues, and work with a variety of people. I have you to thank for that Because of you all I’ve been able to place my first program dog, meet amazing friends, clients and other trainers, host my first seminar and much more.

Hi everyone! This is unlike my normal posts. I want to give a very very very big thank you to this amazing women right here!

Ivey

Ivey is one of my first puppy raisers and has had such a crucial role in training Echo. What I do would be impossible with out my puppy raisers and I think it is important to give credit where credit is due.

Ivey busted her ass for 6 months working with Echo. Her and I spent hours on the phone going over training techniques, different approaches for training, meeting for virtual sessions, discussing tasks and more.

It takes a solid team to raise and train service dogs and I’m blessed to have her apart of mine.

She is constantly showing support to myself, my clients, this community and to every dog she trains.

Echo leaves next week for his forever home and her and I have definitely cried over it. Happy tears of course. Their are thousands of hours of training put into Echo and for her and I to see the hard work pay off is totally worth it.

Puppy raisers are volunteers and Ivey was kind enough to take my program dogs and give them a loving home, fulfill their needs, train them, care for them and all.

Thank you Ivey for all that you have done for my dogs and I. Your not only a puppy raiser but you are also a great friend! I can’t wait for the day you are able to raise again once your little guy is more grown up! You and your work will change so many lives. Myself, my dogs and my clients are eternally grateful for you! So once again thank you so so much for everything!

ABOUT THE PROGRAM ✨

Thank you for your intrest in this unique internship program. This program is designed for dog trainers, aspiring dog trainers, dog handlers, pet enthusiasts, those looking into opening a dog training business and more!

During the internship program you will learn all different aspects of dog training and how the business is ran. All internships are customized to what you would like to learn.

Here are some of the things you can learn!

-Learning theory (operant and classical conditioning)
-Proper use of training tools (E-collars, Prongs, Slip leads, etc)
-Service dog training (Tasks, Public Access, Service dog obedience and more)
-MaKayla’s Puppy Raising Protocol & Puppy selection
-Behavior modification (reactivity, agression, fearfulness, etc)
-Business structure
-Sit in on In person lessons, Online lessons, and Group class
AND MORE

During the program you are allowed to bring one dog to work with. MaKayla will work one on one with you though your entire internship. She will also work with you exclusively 2 times a day with the dog you bring. During that time you can work on any of the concepts you have learned or work on something you may be struggling with. If you don’t have a dog you can borrow one of our in house dogs!
