Tonight, I was alerted to a stray dog wandering in Peoria. I contacted one of the people who saw him and asked if she'd be willing to foster him temporarily if I could catch him. She agreed, so I headed out.
Luckily, he was still in the same area where he was last seen. As I was setting up the trap on a nearby sidewalk, he barked from about 15-20 feet away, then jumped into a car and drove a few houses down. He went straight for the bait! I was able to load him into my car, still in the trap, and transport him to the temporary foster home.
Once there, we quickly discovered he's wary of men, so the foster had to do the microchip scan herself (no luck, unfortunately). After he was settled, I left, and he seemed to immediately relax. This poor guy appears to be an older dog with significant hip arthritis, yet despite his discomfort, he was still quick enough to evade people when he was loose. Fingers crossed his owners come forward to claim him soon! 🤞🏼
