On Tuesdays, we have "Agility Obstacle Training" Classes. We set up different Agility Obstacles and work our way through them.
Agility training offers dogs significant physical & mental benefits. It can improve fitness, weight control, & coordination. It also helps to boost confidence, focus, & problem-solving skills. And, it can help strengthen the bond & communication between dog & owner by sharing a fun activity that helps to satisfy a dog's natural instinct. It's a fantastic way to provide a constructive outlet for intelligent, active dogs.

We have several students that participate in the agility classes, for many different reasons, (building confidence, improving communication between the participating team, burning off energy in a focused, positive way are just a few).
At this time, our smallest agility participant is MAVERICK, a 1 y/o Yorkie. Several months ago, Maverick began & excelled at his Basic Obedience Training. His spunky, attentive, capabilities jump-started his training adventures.
**Yorkies are tiny dogs with BIG personalities. They are known for being affectionate, & loyal, with energetic feisty confidence. That confidence is sometimes categorized as a "stubborn streak". 😆 This combination of these skills offers a pint-sized watchdog making them perfectly adaptable to most any environment. But, these same characteristics require early intervention with firm training to manage their vocal & territorial nature.**
Maverick's goal is to become a Courthouse Facility Dog. *A courthouse dog is used to support children or vulnerable individuals testifying in legal proceedings. They are specifically trained to be a calm & unobtrusive presence in the high-stress environment of a courtroom or during forensic interviews.*
Maverick will go through many different training challenges & obtain several different certifications to assist in mastering the necessary skills to perform this important job.
*Courthouse facility dogs undergo extensive, specialized training (often for up to two years) to ensure they can remain calm in high-stress environments & pass rigorous public access tests, similar to those for service dogs.*
These are just a few videos of Maverick working through the agility obstacles. He is gaining confidence, focusing on the instructions & commands given by the person instructing him, all while he is expected to complete the commands given.
